Is there some way to make a giveaway for something which has the following restriction: "WARNING! This product is region locked and CAN'T be activated in: Russian Federation, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Estonia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Republic of Moldova, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Ukraine, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania." or would need to wait for more region lock options to be added?

There's an option for SEA or South America regions. :P Other than that, nope, at least not yet.

Hmm, lol, I guess that would technically work, but it sort of defeats the purpose XD

Looks like more region lock options are needed. Most region locks mention regions where it CAN be activated. You could include that detail in the description, or even use itstoohard with a question to make sure everyone that enters understands that it CAN'T be activated in those regions.

But, if somebody from those regions enters and wins, I'll still have to send them the game, according to the site rules :S

You can create the giveaway with a region restriction. Do not know if the site will hide the GA to those in that region, but if any of them wins, you are backed up with the GA restriction.

Maybe create a support ticket about this. Can't think of any solution to guarantee the winner is not from those regions (besides Doshmaku's post)

This.

no. just because some immature guys may use this option to exclude ru/cis users from entering to their ga
lol

Almost everything could be exploited. This is not a reason not to implement new features.

Not adding this option would make it impossible to give away certain games though, outside of the regions that have specific region locks (if there are copies of the games sold in those).

Some immature is already using this option to give away row stuff lol.

I understand that we have region locks for games which can be activated in certain countries but lock to not give away in certain region? That way someone can make GA with this restriction, because he "don't like fucking commies", and this lock is exclusive for post-communism countries...

Besides it's not global lock like on Steam, just lock in one particular shop on (most probably few) Bethesda games.

Edit. Besides there are GA in which description creator write that game can't be activated in Germany, because of this stupid violence law and so on. It's better option than making new exclusive non-German lock. It could result in same situation as "I don't like commies"

There are still cases where region lock is "activates everywhere except in X country/countries". One such game is Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, which for some unknown reason is unavailable in SEA countries.

Well it's not available in this region at all => Steam DB, so it's most probably thing between steam-developer-country government or something. And you can't activate something which isn't available in your region to buy in steam shop.

That idiotic Konami block SEA from everything.

10/10 would do that. Fuck those "hippies commies". All jokes aside, it's not a bad feature to add, it's just easily exploitable

Ohhh...there is a game that can't be activated in Baltic? Damn, I thought that countries from Europe aren't counted as RU/CIS.

Didn't the Baltic states fall under the RU/CIS region lock with Skyrim, or am I remembering things wrong? (If my memory serves, Skyrim had the same publisher in the Baltic states as well as in Russia, and they enforced an early reagon lock, until the game was out in all of those areas)

Well, RU/CIS locked Skyrim can only be activated in those countries, yet there isn't a copy that can't be activated in those countries, if I remember correctly.

Yes. I can buy Skyrim here and have RHCP copy in library or have copy from other region and have ROW version. But I won't be able to buy DLC directly throught Steam to my ROW version because it's not compatible :D

But there used to be at launch, before the game was officially released in the RU/CIS region. They've lifted that restriction since.

I had a Germany only key before which is kind of weird (especially since it activated as "ROW").

Contact support and ask them what to do - maybe they will tell you to create the giveaway and put the restrictions in the description; if someone from that area wins, ask for a reroll and that's it.

If it's going to be a public GA, that's a horrible idea considering so many people don't read descriptions.

If support approves, in theory they could reroll until a suitable winner is selected.

I doubt support would approve though :S

create a thread saying people not from those places can join and put the invite-only ga link.

but yes, we could use more region-restriction options in the ga page (like wolfenstein: the new order can't be played in germany)

But what would stop a person from that region joining as well? Personal rules aren't allowed on private giveaways anymore.

make a whitelist just for that ga then? :3

it's a workaround till we get more regional options, if we ever get those :3

Hmmm, I might decide to do that after all... hopefully, if I do, none gets the idea to troll and ask to be added even if they are from one of those countries.

yeah, just be sure what would happen in that situation. if a re roll is granted, then there's no risk.

You can also consider giving away in country/language-specific groups.
In a totally different context I just read it might be even enforced.

What if you want to keep the group only for people who speak a specific language and random asians and russians join the group only for the giveaways (this actually happened a lot when I was in such a group, and I even asked for a reroll on this matter, which was approved).

(But it might have happened some time ago and been a kind of custom rule)
