Do you agree?
All I want is a way to go back to my previous username as soon as I can, because my OCD drives me insane when I see "rafaelgs18" here and "revilheart" on literally every other social media I have an account in.

Yep, I learned the hard way that you can't change your account ID on Steam, so when I changed all my social media to rafaelgs18, but still needed to log in to Steam using revilheart, my OCD drove me crazy and I had to change it all back.

I should, shouldn't I? All those random numbers make my OCD explode. /s

Fuck usernames history. I'd rather no username changing at all than to have a username history.
Also, does 2 not exist? I remember a text stating I could only change once a year, but it was a while ago and my memory is bad.
I don't see a need to change usernames more. I mean, I like doing it and do it all the time on steam, but I'm fine not being able to here. The only time I honestly wanted to was stop MrsSadisticChicken from changing to SadisticChicken when name change timer ran down to mess with her, but I didn't want to be SadisticChicken for a year. Would have totally done it for a month tho.
And number 3, theres not so much a reason not to except for possibly the strain it'd put on the site, but with patreon and syncing every 48 hours I doubt it'd be to much. However, theres also not really a reason for. I mean, you can only change your name once a year, I don't know who changes it without thinking about what they really want and searching to make sure it's available.
Edit: #TreeNoB tho.

No, I don't think it does. At least when I changed mine I remember as soon as I clicked the button it changed without asking me anything.

You know me now. :) Oh you're talking about 3, nevermind.

Tried to change my username to Asshole but it is already taken.

I do like keeping all old users though, it gives it an old forum feeling imo.

Well, but you're active. I think it would work only for users who haven't come here for years.

I know, but as much as I'd like the Username Tree, the fact that someone else got it and now permanently holds I kinda like 'cause it reminds me of old forums.

Yes. I want this username https://www.steamgifts.com/user/Tree ,but I like having the old users keeping their name.

I don't change my name on a whim IRL and I see no need to have to be able to change it here either. But since cg was nice enough to have the feature here one could at least have the patience to wait until they can change it. Maybe you should have waited to change yours when you finally decided on what you wanted to use? If you have OCD then do something about it and don't expect the world to make changes just because you want them to.
It must really be painful to you when you have to use your real name IRL and not be able to sign everything with your current gamertag. 🙄
And yes, I'm an asshole.

Look, another asshole comparing online names to real names. Amazing. They're exactly the same thing.
I'm free to make suggestions, whether cg accepts them or not is his problem.

But you actually can change your name whenever you want irl?

so just like xboxlive!
I'd argue most don't change their internet username more than once a year.

Oh wait, that was your point, lol.
My point was just that this didn't really make so much since because he actually could do that.

Assholes will disagree with suggestion 1.
Suggestion: When trying to convince someone of your position, never attack them personally. Stick to outlining an argument and debating the points within. The attention will stick to the points being made, rather than getting derailed.
Just an observation.

But don't you see how entertaining this thread has become? xD
Comment has been collapsed.
The goal of the thread shouldn't be entertainment, but to convince people to support your suggestion for the site. Suggestions take time and energy to implement and the more support you have, the better chances you have of it being implemented.

These people can't be convinced. It's an argument you can't win.
I don't take this as serious as other people do. If the suggestion is implemented, good, if it's not, at least I got some entertainment out of it. It's not the end of the world.

You can do both separately, you know? I shitpost all the time for my enjoyment, but don't base it around things I care about or take serious because I don't want to associate it with that stupid bs.
I mean, my serious posts always devolve into drama, but I'd much rather it be arguing about the subject than arguing that i'm stupid. Unfortunately it always devolves into drama about Muslims because this site brings that into everything.

https://www.steamgifts.com/discussion/uoCVx/ You were wrong. No attacks in that thread and way more details about the suggestion. Still "None" wins, because everyone hates me and they can't focus on the suggestion. xD

When usernames can be changed frequently it makes it easier for scammers and trolls. That's a big problem, and means there has to be some restriction in changing usernames.
That being said 1 year is a higher limit than necessary - a month would be plenty, a few months if they wanted to be extra cautious. I could be okay with lowering the forced delay, and I'd be fine with people being able to swap back to an old username immediately via support ticket.
I do prefer being able to recognize people in the forums though, so it's understandable that they want to be restrictive with username changes. Some middle ground can probably be found, if a polite discussion can be had.
Seeing that this is what someone thinks is polite discussion I would rather suggest they just remove the ability to change usernames all together, because I'm an asshole.

Closing this for two reasons:
This thread serves no purpose other than keeping peeps fighting with each other.
General Warning: Keep the next thread civil.
