I can already see myself having tremendous troubles with that many buttons on a controller if I happen to buy one.
and since it's too different to other controllers, it would be quite a pain to configure the game when you have both a X360 controller and that...weird thing

Wait for it to go on sale and get a 4 pack for $0.53

Playstation event...they revealed only the controller along with the PS4

Are you kidding? The big reveal this upcoming gen and the last with Wii's was all about the controllers. Hell at the original PS4 reveal, there wasn't even a console at all, just the controller.
Controllers are what sell consoles now and are a primary marketing point for console companies.
The Wiimote sold millions or consoles. The WiiU - not so much but they were going for a new gimmick in the same vein.
PS4 now has touchpad controllers, their main presentation this year.
Xbox 3 now features the Kinect "controller" as standard equipment on all machines.
FWIW, in the modern market, controllers sell consoles. Valve knows that, which is why it had to make one too instead of saying "well Steam Machines are PC's so, yea just use any controller ever made that you want." That won't suck in the main console buying plebes.

It looks horrible imo... I'll just stick with my good old 360 controller. :P

I'm usually open to new things (I'm one of the few that actually use and love Windows 8) but I can already the problems that the touch pad analog thing will generate, cause I don't think that it'll be that accurate since it's not there physically

"..since it's not there physically"? Huh?
It will most likely be supremely accurate and allow for FAR quicker aiming than with sticks.

No, because what you literally said is that it's not there physically, which means nothing logical unless you in some way mean the trackpad exists in a state of quantum uncertainty, is made of anti-matter, or it's died and its' ghost has taken its' place.

I meant it's not like a real analog stick, just some touch pad crap
Comment has been collapsed.
.. And that still means absolutely nothing. It's a non-statement, you're just stating facts. Yes, it's a trackpad. So, how does that have to do with you thinking that it won't be accurate?

Looks amazing. If developed right, this may be one of the strongest points of Steam machines. Finally we'll see some playabe RTS games on big screen.

Hm, well, assuming that it works as intended it sounds nice. Since I usually bitch about the controllers lacking a proper way of imitating mouse input and having too few buttons this one would work perfectly. Once again, assuming that it actually WORKS but that's what Beta testing is for. ^_^
(Inb4 people criticize me for not having a console or controller and start throwing around "PC Master Race" jokes. :P )

SteamOS, SteamPC, SteamController... and what is the result?
Correct: I don't give a shit!

There was no possibility of a game being announced anyway. It quite clearly said that the announcements were regarding features would benefit the "living room experience".
I'll probably be getting one of them controllers if/when they're complete and have most of the issues ironed out.

I usually don't partake in HL3 speculation, but here's mine:
The controller is meant to be hacked, right? So you pop it open to see what's what, and etched into the controller's board is a QR code. You initially dismiss it because a lot of boards have small things that look like QR codes, but this looks more complex, so you whip out the smartphone and scan it. It takes you to a landing page that says you were the first to scan the code, and asks you to log into Steam. You do so, and Half-Life 3 is added to your account as early access. At that point the game is announced to everyone and you are named the game's ambassador, you get a free Steam Machine, get to visit Valve and meet Gabe and the team, you get to be a character in HL3 and/or get to help design an area, etc.
Could happen!

Well, Valve deserve congratulation for the courage to try to inovate, but i can't see myself playing in a touchpad. If touchpad was good to play fps, a notebook or a tablet would bee too, and that's not true. I don't know, it can work but it's really weird

Notebook touchpads problem is it is uncomfortable because too close to wasd. Tablets and smarthphones dont have extra buttons and in a limited area you watch the game, move "the cursor" and execute an action. Steam controller don't have these problems

Considering I hate, hate, HATE trying to control first-person shooters and such with touchscreens, and this isn't much different, I'll avoid this thing like it's the plague.

Also the controller looks more amazing every time I think about how it will work.

nope, just a controller....
and it's fucking weird
also, Steam is trying to get my lazy ass to the sofa....which I have been doing for the last 2 year with an HDMI cable.
So far these announcements have not convinced me. They're just not interesting enough.
