It;s official, the game formerly known as Torchlight Frontiers is now Torchlight 3 and is coming to pc soon!

Barring an Epic exclusive, I am SO on board. I love the Torchlight franchise.

Won't buy on Epic. If it will be in any other store (GOG, Steam, Uplay, Origin, Battle.Net, MicrosoftStore, GooglePlay, itch.io) - i'm in!

"Coming To Steam In 2020" Woo!
though it looks like it might be always-online with the way they're messaging the shared world.

From the announcement:

"When creating your character, you can now select Online or Offline Mode. Characters made in Offline Mode do not require an internet connection to play, but will also not be able to participate in multiplayer games."

So while we still get the option to play offline, we don't get the option to play online privately.

From the website OP linked:

When you are online, most zones will be set to private, letting you explore at your own pace in solitude.

That's good enough for me! I don't like co-op in arpgs anyway!

I guess it's time to play the first two iterations before that launch :). Since I have the 1st one on Epic and the 2nd one on Steam I don't really care where the 3rd one will be.

Where did you read that it would be epic exlusive? Neither the website you linked nor the announcement youtube video mention that, they only mention steam. I googled and couldn't find any information about it being epic exlusive.

Anyway, I was planning on trying Torchlight Frontiers but wasn't very optimistic about it and I'm not sure how I feel about the sudden change. I think this is probably for the better though.

Can't say I'm a fan of the franchise, I enjoyed the first one even though it had some flaws I didn't really mind them that much. The second one was a huge disappointment and a mess. So many skills weren't balanced properly making some of them pointless to use therefore reducing the amount of builds you can go for. Their skill tree system was kinda a mess too. Don't even get me started on the story, a 10 year old would have more imagination to write a better, more interesting one. Going from guardian to guardian just so they tell you the villain was already there and that you should go to the next guardian was just so dumb. I gave that game numerous tries but it would lose my interest quickly every time.

As a fan of the genre I really hope they do a lot better with the third game than they did with the second and that they improve on all of the issues I mentioned.

I dunno, man. I've been a hype guy for the series since shortly after the first Torchlight was released, and the alpha for Frontiers didn't feel like Torchlight at all. They're gonna have to do a lot more than rebrand it and change the pricing model to sell me on it.

I was in the first group to get an invite and I've played it on and off and it's had a lot of changes so far. During my entire time of testing it never felt like it could be an MMOARPG like Marvel Heroes. It felt very Torchlight 2 as far online play went, so I'm actually really happy that chose to alter plans and create Torchlight 3.

I don't know, I have a love-hate relationship with TL2 about how long and boring levels were, and I repeatedly caught myself just staring at the screen, clicking on whatever it was moving. Also I genuinely have no idea about the story, and I love stories, it just lost me. Multiple times. Maybe even multiple dozens of times.
Later loved the hell out of Grim Dawn that I found better in every possible field... I hope TL3 will have a sharper, less toned-out art style and more vibrant sounds, the simplified inventory (I think) also took away from my involvedness.
So, at this time being, I'm really happy for whoever is happy about it because they loved TL3. And I do hope in a demo, maybe it will have changes towards my taste.

As far as I know, this one isn't made by the original devs. Still excited, I hope they don't mess it up
