If it can be done at all, it probably has to be done through support -- try opening a ticket with them. Third menu option from the right.

Yep, Support can change your name once, and that is it. After that you're stuck with it.

If I was support I'd be telling people that to ensure I'm not wasting my time on frivolous name change requests.
But it might be a technical limitation, what do I know. :-)

I don't think you're getting the idea here. Your username is an entry in the database - it can be edited, albeit manually. This has no reason to not be possible more than once. However, as the only person able to do it is the all-powerful cg, there's a rule about it being only possible once. Let's put it this way - the last time I saw a count for the current amount of tickets cg has on his plate, was upwards of 20,000. It makes perfect sense that there'd be a "one time only as an exception" rule - no one's pretending it's a technical issue, or "just telling the users that" in any way. Most older site users know this already.

Take five. It was a light-hearted remark and you seem to be interpreting my comment as some sort of revolt against a conspiracy. All I did was play off Cha0sSt0rm's use of "can" rather than "will". I indeed don't know how many issues support handles and I did not mean to imply by any means that they're slacking off and lying about it to the users.
No doubt you've already checked my profile to find out I'm not "an older site user". I do, however, have years of experience handling technical support issues involving the manual editing of databases, so rest assured that I know how these things go. :-)

My implicit insinuation wasn't mean to be "you're saying the support are evil slacking off conspirators bamboozling the users", rather something like "maybe you're implying that sometimes it's easier for support staff to say something simply isn't possible to avoid lengthy explanations or discussions, and this is one such example", as that often happens in IT related support.. Nothing that overtly negative, though I see the way things could have been misinterpreted. And the "older site user" thing was in no way meant as elitism, just that well, there's a core of older users that know how most site stuff works. Great huh, missing the nuance of nonverbal communication, and inflection / tonality :D? Ditto here on DB management - SQL using Toad @ T-Mobile - FUN TIMES(ohmygodno) :P

Hey, we resolved everything in just two civilly worded posts. I'd consider that a huge success. (Making a note here, etc.) If we could defuse conflicts like that in the offline world, we'd qualify for a Nobel peace prize.
As long as we're sharing the classics: I'm capable of being just as sorry as you are.

How do you edit your steam gift account as I spelt the username wrong and wish to correct it.
