Some of you will remember the thread I created earlier this month, asking what scary games you planned to play this October. Now I'd like to know what you actually played.

I only ended up playing one from my planned list, but I still managed to enjoy quite a few overall. I played:

Silver Chains
The Dark Pictures Anthology: Little Hope
The Dark Pictures Anthology: House of Ashes
Maid of Sker
EarWorm
Mouthwashing
Beyond Hanwell
Hello Kitty's Blood-Soaked Cthulhu Island Adventure

You?

Did you have a nice & spooky October?

View Results
Yes. It was bootiful. 👻
No. It sucked! 🧛
🥔

A lot fewer than usual this time around. I did play a bunch of demos though (best one being White Knuckle no doubt)
As for full games, I only finished Angel's Gear & My Friendly Neighborhood on steam.
On GOG I dropped Scorn and started Evil Within 2, but I'm not finishing that today for sure.

Hello.

I've only played one "scary" game, and that was Fort Solis
It’s not that scary, but the atmosphere is really chilling.

My plan this spooktober was to knock at least two more RE titles. Revelations 2 and RE7.

And I succeeded! I feel both of those were pretty spooky. And in fact, in some ways RE7 felt like an natural successor of some of the tropes REV 2 played with.

I also played Don't Knock Twice, but eh. Not really in the ballpark of the other two, not even close.

I have become addicted to Deck of Haunts, where you play as a haunted house who can kill people and/or turn intruders insane. It's a nice deck-building game which involves building the house layout.

I also started playing Saturnalia, which is a walking sim/detective game set in an Italian village where a local monster is roaming loose.

I find dusk to be Dusk to be an excellent game you can play while eating a quick snack, a cathartic one at that. Curse of the Dead Gods and Warhammer 40K: Boltgun Crusade Simulator have the same effect.

Worshipers of Chtulhu is also my favourite from last year, where you run as a cult colony. It my seem like a typical village bulding/RTS sim on a surface, but very few games let you sacrifice one of your villagers to the Mighty Old Gods. Even fewer let you inner sadist directly carve a tattoo onto one of your followers.

My favourite scary game is doomscrolling, and I dedicate quite a lot of time to it (and this October wasn't an exception, of course).

They should fix the doomscrolling game though. It's getting ever more problematic to tell the difference between parody and the real stuff.

I'm still busy playing Hell is Us. Great experience, the real scary part isn't meant to be entertaining though.

"Morbid: The Seven Acolytes" and "There Is No Light". I guess "F.E.A.R." should also count.

The first two were SG Wins and both feature incredible pixel art, but the gameplay of the first one is boring and slow and repetitive whereas the gameplay of the second one features some of the fastest, most frantic combat systems I've ever seen and I loved every second of it. Strong contender for one of my favorite combat systems ever.

F.E.A.R. is ..... F.E.A.R. and it rocks so, so much. It's an almost perfect game

I'm playing F.E.A.R. for the first time and I'm impressed with how good it is.

Nothing too scary, Corn Kidz 64 and a bit of MediEvil on PS1. The month went by way too fast and I wasn't able to engage in as many spooky activities as I wanted to (I feel that way most Octobers, honestly.) Might play a bit of Pumpkin Jack tonight and see what that's all about.

I played a little bit of Alan Wake 2. It's pretty great so far and goes from creepy investigation to complete insanity very quickly.

And I played POOLS. Which does have an It level.

Neither are scary though.

I'm also playing Look Outside. Which is horror. But not scary either lol.

None lol. I really don't associate all of October with Halloween, if I'm honest. And I don't enjoy horror. I don't mind spooky and scary though.

I actually live pretty close to where they say was the origins of Halloween. They used to light a fire on the hill of Tlachtga and then take that fire to the villages where they would keep it burning. Nothing horrifying about it. Except that on that night between lighting the new fire and the old one going out, they believed that the spirits returned, so they made things like Jack o'lanterns from turnips and put them in their windows to ward off the spirits. They wore disguises so they'd blend in and not be recognised by the spirits. And they left out food for the spirits to keep them happy lol. Something like that.

Makes me wonder how Horror got associated with the holiday. Damn americans hahaha

None, in the end I didn't play much this month and somehow ended up currently replaying Portal 2, no regrets tho.
