I don't see how its possible to get 500000 hours. In order to get that, 250 000 people must play at least 2 hours. There are only 20 441 people online now. I think sega is taking the piss.

Eh, indeed. I thought it would be done super fast, but it will be super hard...
Maybe and hopefully they will lower their expectation and change those 500 000 hours by 250 000. Though it started 4 hours ago, and it's the beginning of afternoon in Europe and early morning in America.
But it's also Valentine's Day, maybe players will have something else to do today ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Looks like they set the bar way too high for today (although parts of the USA still need to get out of bed). *shrug*

Comment has been collapsed.

I had the same thought. 500k hours would be ~ 21.000 players playing any of those 4 games all day long or more realistically 84.000 players at 6 hours a pop. Devide that through 4 games and that would be 21k player per game for 6 hours. The all time high for all of those games is between 15 and 25k simultaneous players.

So the goal feels completely unrealistic, specially considering it's a weekday.

Permalink

They'll juice it. The reward contains a 75% discount to a game, so they make money if they give out the reward vs. not.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I absolutely wouldn't be surprised if they did but it would be kind of easy to tell given we have live stats.
Or we fail Day 1 and from now on they'll lower the bar to 200k hours or something else more realistic.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Its Sega. They're probably expecting that no one reaches the goal, so they don't have to give out free games but still profit from the sales from hopeful people who buy the featured games.
This is the same company that has 60 euros worth of DLC for Warhammer : Total War for factions that really should have been in the game to begin with.

Comment has been collapsed.

I haven't played 1 or 2 but I used to be a big Warhammer fantasy fan and I agree, at least Chaos Warrior and Beastmens feel like they should be part of the main game. Norse didn't even have their own codex when I used to play so I guess those are borderline acceptable as a DLC.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I don't think norse ever had an army book. Unless they were their own thing before 7th ed, which was when I started.
Norse and Warriors of Chaos were in the same book. The book had the chaos warriors, which were superhuman dudes fused to their armor (iirc) and just ordinary humans who were basically vikings.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Weird... I always thought Norse rather belonged to my people (Empire) like Kislev and not to Chaos. Although I knew there are some humans in the north that worship the Chaos gods.

When I played (5th edition) the 4 factions of Chaos were: Chaos Warrior, Demons, Beastmen and 1 more which I can't remember right now.

The Norscans (or norse) are from Norsca, a land that is heavily corrupted by Chaos and many of the inhabitants there worship the dark gods and are ruled by chaos warlords.
Kislev is right next to their territories, and are constantly under attack from them.

We'll see. Running games simultaniously isn't common for normal users (except if people own everything just idle the games - but this shouldn't be expected as common behaviour)... European people will head back home after working soon but my guess is that the event isn't well known enough to have much of an impact.
I'm sure they'll atleast adjust the next days.

Permalink

I didn't mean all 4 simultaniously but just 1 for 24hours (which nobody does). For the rest of my calculations I went with 6 hours per day which is still A LOT. But I was just spinballing numbers because I was wondering if they pulled that 500k number out of their rectum :D

Hopefully a lot more people will turn in in the next few hours, after all it's a weekday. As it is now it's awfully unrealistic goal to reach, just about an hour ago there weren't even enough people to reach 450k in 24 hours.

No, they didn't change the goal what I meant was at the time I registered the nearly 19k people were hardly enough to reach 450k it was even a little under that when I calculated even with 24 hours farming by being afk or using something like SAM/ASF so 500k was pretty much out of the question. Obviously now there are like 10k more people and it looks a little more achievable but still a far shot. It's a pretty high number for a weekday.

I'm not sure why so many doubt that 500k hours could be achieved. Currently we have achieved 93% of what could be expected after 9h. But the current 33k players are far more than the required 20,833 active players in average, so the gap should be closed rather soon.

You can just specify which games you want to farm. Depends on what you use, with ASF you can do that with the !play command or add the games in the config file for GamesPlayedWhileIdle. Idle-master according to another comment on this thread you can just add parameters with the appid. And last but not least you can use something like SAM to afk any game you want.

In the steam chat window with the bot, but it won't work if you don't have a way of writing to the bot from a "main" account unless you have a second account you can mark that as main and send commands from it to your "bot" accounts.

Login with steam and do allow it permissions to activate keys on your account, it will give you the free games when/if we reach the playtime goal (you still get the 2 free for registering). If you have any of the games that are at the end of the page under featured you can play/idle them with something like ASF to help with the global playtime to unlock the rest of the free stuff.

Yeah, it's definitely not super clear. The rules say to play the 'feature' games and the 'featureD' games are toward the bottom of the page. Would be nice if it explicitly said "Play these games to participate" or something. Anyway, I could still be wrong but that's how I saw it.

Can Idle Master be used to pad my playtime of a particular game?
•The steam-idle.exe application that's included with Idle Master can be given a command line argument of the appid of the game you'd like to idle. For example, if you'd like to idle Team Fortress 2 for playtime, you can simply run "steam-idle.exe 440" from a command prompt. There is no user interface for this, it must be done through the command line or by creating a shortcut to steam-idle.exe with the appid added to the target line of the shortcut properties.
steam-idle.exe 231430
is for CoH2

It's possible and this method can be use for idling any game.
-Open notepad.
-copy start "" "steam-idle.exe" 231430 (this is appid of CoH2 and you can change it whatever you want to idle. Just paste the appid.)
-save it as a .bat file
-copy .bat file to the idle master folder.
-then open the .bat file which you created.
Idle master should start to idle the game without no install and no login. But dont forget that steam client has to be opened.
