Now that Steam switched to my local currency, much better! It was sooo sooooooo expensive when everything was in USD but now some games are much cheaper than copies sold by nearby game retailers

Depends on the game; usually, the prices are about the same, makes me want to go with physical. The exception being old and rare games, which they generally don't have on Steam anyways, and thus I'm better off looking on GOG for them.

Yes GOG.com is very good for classic/older games and for single player ones where you don't need the client to find other players.

Cheaper

And that's not including the sales, of which brick and mortar retailers appear to have none

In Poland, it's clearly more expensive.

To compare, Ryse: Son of Rome costs 39.99€ on Steam Store, retail costs around 89.90 PLN which is around 22-23€ and that's for proper physical retail. Digital copy in the same store costs 88.90PLN which is around 0.3€ cheaper. I won't even compare games like Call of Duty with their ridiculous pricing model which is 60€. For Ryse comparison I've used Steam Store prices and Muve.pl prices which is a official Cenega Poland online store.

More expensive for me in Hungary. Evil Within 50 euro on steam, and approximately 33euro in retail shop with physical copy.
However many games here tend to have Central EU regionlock on them.

Getting a physical copy for PC game is like seeing an UFO on the sky in my country, there is no stuff to compare.
Anyway, if you compare PS games, digital is cheaper...

Steam (no sale) is 20€, even 30€ more expensive than physical copies in stores near me. And these need to be activated on Steam anyway. However, that changes when sales kick in, though it's really good for me when the Steam base price is dropped and retail price isn't. Which happens rarely.

For example, retail Max Payne 3 is about 23€. On Steam, on sale, it was 4€. On the other hand, BlOps1 retail is 7€, but Steam is more than three times that, even on sale. The latter is most common when it comes to AAA titles.

Far cheaper. GameStop in particular - makes me want to laugh. Or cry. Most PC games cost 50-60€. Bundle games? 20-30€. Uhuh. Gaming isn't very popular here - people are uninformed and often taken advantage of.

Without and discounts, Steam is always more expensive. Always!

Now, on the offers i would say it depends on the year a game was made. If the game was made more than 3 years from the current date, i can get it from the local shop cheaper than i would get it from Steam with 75% discount!!! However, if the game was made less than 3 years ago, then it comes cheaper on Steam with a 75% sale than my local store.

There are hardly any shops around me that sell physical PC games anymore lol and the ones that do are places like Walmart (and I work in New York City lol) which have maybe 10 games (World of Warcraft, Starcraft, Skyrim). Occasionally they'll toss old PC games in a clearance bin, but those have 99% of the time been even cheaper on Steam, if not bundled. Even game shops don't bother carrying physical.

Really the only place to get physical is ordering online, and it's almost always cheaper to get digital. Occasionally a game's physical copy will go onsale cheaper than digital, but nothing regular and its on places like Amazon.

The last physical PC game I bought was Star Wars The Old Republic before it went F2P for $5. I tried it for a while and decided I didnt want to play anymore.
