I used to play fighting games all the time on console as well as in the arcade and I was pretty decent at them. Recently I've gotten into the genre again and ended up acquiring a few titles: Mortal Kombat Complete Kollection, Mortal Kombat XL, Ultra Street Fighter IV, Street Fighter V, and Injustice: Gods Among Us. My skills are definitely lacking and I need a lot more practice.

No one is online to play for MK 9, Ultra Street Fighter IV or Injustice so I mainly play SFV and MKXL online. I'm no where near good but Street Fighter V I will say I am definitely getting better at.

Out of the fighting games you own on Steam what's your favorite? If it's not listed feel free to post a comment stating which is.

Is there any titles not in the poll you highly recommend?

What do you use to play: Controller, Fight Stick, or Keyboard and Mouse? If you use a Fight Stick which do you recommend?

I haven't played fighting games much until i recently played Injustice 1 and while i usually skip movies they really catched me, also it wasn't really that hard on normal mode (meaning you can button mash).

Can't really comment on the others.

I picked that one up not too long ago and enjoyed the story. I was really disappointed to find the servers were shutdown so there wasn't online play anymore.

There are a sizable number of comments from people discussing playing online multiplayer in Injustice as recently as the 10th of this month. Perhaps more telling is the fact that the game still has its Multiplayer tags on Steam and doesn't have an angry cascade of negative reviews criticizing that fact, as that's a fairly predictable combination for Steam. As such, and given the lack of any sort of official announcement or threads complaining about the servers being down, indications are favorable for the servers still being up.

Rather, the Injustice servers seem to have a habit of going down for maintainence every so often without any kind of notice, so that fact would properly explain both the OP's experiences and the lack of other signs of the servers being down. As such, the OP may find it beneficial to give the servers another shot before signing off on them completely.

I never saw this comment till a few minutes ago but I just tried the servers and they are still running! Unfortunately there's no one online to play with. Thank you for commenting with this info cause I probably wouldn't of tried the servers again. I tried two different times and both times they were down.

Out of the ones I own on steam, it's Dragonball, killer instinct a close second. I'd also put UMvC3 and MKX up there. If you're looking for something that's easy to pick up and play, than I'd recommend any of those.
Also, Soulcalibur is great, as are Skullgirls and Divekick(which aren't on the list). If you're looking for something with good tutorials, try Guilty Gear Xrd or Skullgirls.
I haven't been able to get a stick, and don't mind not having one for most games. It's only Street Fighter and King of Fighters where I have problems on pads

Out of what you've listed I own MKXL, Skullgirls, and Guilty Gear Xrd but not -REVELATOR- I own -SIGN-.

MK XL is a great game.. I get smashed online when I do play though lol. I need to take some time and learn the combos.
Skullgirls is a kool game. I don't believe I've ever had an online match though. Don't think anyone was playing when I was same with Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN-

I don't think I have ever played a fighting game on PC. Not sure why, but I haven't played any in a long time even though I enjoyed them a lot. I remember playing games on the SNES like Mortal Kombat, Killer Instinct, Tuff E Nuff, Celebrity Deathmatch, and Clay Fighter. Then Tekken on the PS1 and PS2. I think the last fighting games I played were Tekken 5 and Def Jam: Fight For NY on the PS2.

Def Jam: Fight For NY was a kool Beat 'em up.

It confuses me that you mentioned Skullgirls and then you don't add the game into the poll, especially because it's very good.

I enjoyed Skullgirls. There's actually several fighters I enjoyed playing but due to only 20 options they were left off.

As far as the giveaway I might have to switch from Skullgirls to another game.. possibly Injustice. I'll may leave it off for now till I know for sure.

Thanks for adding Injustice (after my first post, who became ninja invisible) ! I really enjoyed it, but for sure I cant say that I was good at it. The only fighting game I was good at it was MK 4, and by good I mean good at smashing keyboard after losing a match :D .

Arcana Heart 3 LOVE MAX!!!!!

No, I'm not joking... much.

or Nitroplus Blasterz... cos it has a whole swathe of different anime characters, and the tag teams are fun.

I know that game for one reason and that's due to being aggravated about missing out on Street Fighter X Tekken which was in the same bundle in the same tier as Arcana Heart 3 Love Max!!!

I haven't heard of Nitroplus Blasterz though.

I had to drop down the original list to 20(poll limit). There's actually only 4 titles I own in the poll. MK XL, Ultra Street Fighter IV, Street Fighter V and Injustice: Gods Among Us Ultimate Edition. Skullgirls I think is a good fighter and if it was based on all games I owned it would of definitely made the poll.

I can't vote unfortunately since I don't play that much these games on Steam, but on the other side whenever I talk about fighting games I can't help but thinking about my teenage years in the '90s..
Here in Europe we had a limited supply of games (and we had to import cartridge from the States and adapt them to our SNES consoles and so on): lots of them were fighting games.
Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, Killer Instinct, the Capcom arcade crossovers, minor ones like the Bruce Lee ones or Rival Schools (if this was the PS title?) and many many others..
I had few friends, and we had the multitap thing and we used to play these games for years without ever getting bored.. every single day we used to put the Mortal Kombat 3 Ultimate cartridge in and play over and over the same levels with the same moves sheets handwritten from Gamefaqs..
Great times!
Anyways Mortal Kombat will always be my favourite series although I don't know the recent games =)

Mortal Kombat X is really good. If you can grab it on sale it's definitely worth picking up.

Not sure if you've seen the anything on MK 11 or not but looks freaking awesome! Unfortunately it's going to be a LONG time till I get to play it, most like a couple years down the road.

thanks a lot for the suggestion, I saw some MKX videos on youtube with all the fatalities and all the new characters I've never heard about.. and some of the main ones had also children and such xD (yeah I'm mostly stuck on the first 3 SNES titles ahah), it's in my wishlist and definitely I'll try to grab it somewhere in the next weeks.. I think I'll go on it before thinking about MK11, it seems definitely great for the few things I saw and read but I want to re-start with the 10th since everyone has been saying since it came out that it's so good! =) thanks!

Don't own any of those on steam I think.

I used to love fighting games back in the 90's. Street Fighters at arcades, Mortal Kombats on Sega MD2, etc. Loved old Guilty Gears as well.

same here, in the '90s both arcade and on the snes there were lots of awesome fighting games and I used to play almost every day arcade street fighters, mortal kombat and others.. nowadays I feel that I won't like those games anymore, I want to try MKX that seems awesome but I don't have much desire to try all the other ones.. I think I'll get bored after half an hour xD

yeah, the arcade and the SNES version were awesome! great characters and even if it was in some way "simpler" than other fighting games (I picked often Cinder and he had awesome combos xD), it was challenging and I really loved it.. so I'd suggest it to everyone!

No, the poll is not made correctly. Jump Force and Mortal Kombat 11 have not yet come out, so they should not be in the poll. Nobody played in them, the beta does not count. DBX2, Jump Force, NS:UNS4 are not classic fighting games, so they should also be removed. It is worth adding KoF 13 and Skullgirls are still playing in them. And it is worth adding DoA5LR.

And I would do some polls. The first in a series of fighting games. And the second separately for each part in the series.

It is a bit oddly constructed, sure. Besides, if we're including unreleased Steam games, then there's not even a need for a poll anymore, because there's only one fighting game that matters.

Well, up until it releases, at which point it may fail expectations, break our hearts, and blanket the world in despair.
..yeah, limiting the poll to released games is definitely better.

Saw and even spread on some resources where users can post news themselves. Unfortunately, the fact that the game looks good does not mean that it will be quite popular and alive. I waited for Fighing EX Layer, but he came out dead. And he looked good too.

FighterZ is damn good, for my liking Arc System Works does the best fighting games. It's a shame Bandai Namco is behind it. Not a fan of DLCs milking they're doing.

I would love to try Injustice 2 and the new Mortal Kombat at a later point. Jump Force looks really meh if you ask me, only get it for the fanservice. I'll only pick it up in a heavy sale but i guess with Bandai we're going to wait 5 years until all the DLCs characters are out.

Dead or Alive 5 Last Round. I had it on my Xbox 360, and didn't want to buy another copy for pc, so I just got the cracked version
Steam F2P version sucks balls

Prior to all that, I had DOA4 for the 360, and DOA3 for xbox

of course I didn't play it because I found the grils cute what are you talking about

I enjoyed Mortal Kombat X quite alot, but anytime i´d win and did´nt manage pulling off Fatalities it felt like a loss :E

The sticks on my Xbox Pad are´nt really suited for these kind of games. It´s amazing how much more patient & placable i´ve been during the Mega Drive & PS1 times with their shitty D-Pads! Playing Street Fighter EX + Alpha actually gave me blisters on my left thumb and i did´nt care....

Nowadays i´m longing for a proper fighting stick, but also acknowledge that i´ll never be good :D

I use the D pad on my Xbox One controller but I think a fight stick would be the way to go.
The good budget ones from what I've been reading are the Mayflash F300(around $55), Mayflash F500(around $75), and HORI Fighting Stick Mini(around $45).

The HORI Real Arcade Pro 4 Kai is a great option that some pro SF V players use. It's around $149.99 though(still cheap compared to many of the quality ones out there).

I'm not sure if the Mad Catz Street Fighter V Arcade FightStick TE2+ will work on the PC but if so this is the one chosen by most SF V pros(around $150) and probably the way to go from the large amount of positive feedback I've read in reviews as well as watched in videos.

Myself and a few buddies put in several thousand hours in Soul Caliber 2 on the ps2. 8v8 man tourmanets.

Between SC2, Tekken Tag and Tekken 2/3.. I don't think I've played many other fighting games. Exception being legacy games like original Mortal Kombats (arcade+console), Killer Instinct (arcade), Street Fighter (arcade) and those wicked awesome Neo-Geo arcade cab classics (King of Fighters, other names I can't remember).

It's essentially a spiritual successor to the Street Fighter EX games, made by the same developer and only including the OCs they created for those games -- with two more free characters (Sharon and Area) on the way and Terry Bogard as a paid DLC guest character. It's low-tech, but it's probably the most a fighting game has satisfied me since 2000.
