I like these changes. Got myself the 100+ badge now. Finally pushed me over level 10 without having to craft any badge yet. :D I do wonder how the booster pack thing is going to work. Will it be randomly while playing one of the games you are out of drops for or just any time you're playing a game on steam?

It's random. I just got a Faerie Solitaire booster pack while playing Defense Grid.

I dunno how random though. I got a Cubemen 2 booster pack for playing Sonic and Sega All-Stars Racing. I thought it was because I do good in race. :3

Yeah, got a Trine booster pack while playing Anodyne myself

inb4 people start attaching some mythical shit to chances of getting a booster drop :3
So far it just looks like everybody across the board gets a chance at booster pack for a game they already used up all their initial card drops for (does not equal to: collected ALL cards) no matter what they play or not play. What isn't clear to me is if you got all drops from say 5 games, do you get 5 as many chances or something, as if you got only 1 game drops.

Same. Game Mechanic badge :) Now on level 11, so trading card games are playable again (no missing out on the foil chance)

Got one for Portal 2 while playing Serious Sam 3. Decided to unpack it, there's a neat animation for revealing the cards kinda like unpacking a real-life booster pack. I thought it was a nice touch. This whole system is a pretty brilliant money printing machine for Valve, heh.

Um... I don't see the game badge... why?
I can see other people do have it, but I do not.

Do you think you can get "more" booster packs, or should one only get 1 booster pack after getting all the cards available for you.
I mean: I got all portal cards I could get (which are 4).. Could I get a booster pack and maybe get another one some time later?
Or is that 1 booster pack, the last way for someone to get portal 2 cards?

I think this is the date, you got your first game on steam.. since it replaced the old badge stating you bought a game :)

You got a booster pack without even playing a game?!? o_O

Booster packs are dropping all the time. If you got card drops in a game and have no drops remaining, and you've logged in in the past week, you may get one of those booster packs.
You don't have to do anything, it doesn't matter what you did with the cards.

I'm logged into Steam 24/7, yet I haven't received a booster pack yet. :(
Steam really does hate me... I was talking with a friend earlier and he said that no matter what he did he couldn't upvote anything on my activity feed... >_<

Oh cool. But do you have to be online to get booster packs? It seems like, literally, if you log in for 1 second each week, you have a chance for a booster.

Do you earn the booster packs only when playing games or when you are online?

I used up my free drops and played 20+ hrs of games after hat with no booster. :(

Just a small update on the boosters. So far, boosters have been awarded with no regard to actual action on the user's part. People have reported even receiving boosters while offline (seeing them after they log in). They've been awarded to badgeless and badge crafters alike, to users playing non-card games, and just pop from nowhere (similar to developer coupons). Other than this, the only concrete information we have is that they only drop for games the user had received all allotted individual card drops and that the user must have logged into Steam within the past (1) week. More info should be available tomorrow, when an update to the FAQ is supposed to be pushed through.

Steam Trading Card Beta Update!
Beta update - June 18th
JUNE 18TH, 2013 - AL
We've added some new features to the beta today:
Booster packs: Players who have collected all the trading card drops they can for a game and have used Steam in the last week will randomly receive booster packs. These packs contain three additional cards for the game, and may contain foils.
Game Collector Badge: There's a new badge which will grant you XP based on how many games you have in your Steam library. This badge replaces the "100 XP for having at least one product registered" message at the bottom of the badges page.
Profile Game Count: The number shown next to the "Games" link on the new profile should now more closely match the number of games shown in the Steam library.
