So yeah. It seems that shipping times have dropped to 2 to 4 weeks now.

I could almost fully fund it by selling CS:GO "portfolio"... But is it worth it? Should I do that?

Depends on you, actually... What games are you looking to play? And do you find them interesting...
But, you should also look into buying Oculus, they are also pretty good and there isn't much price difference. Some of the models, in fact, are cheaper than the Index.

I don't plan on supporting Facebook... Really kills the thing for me...

I wouldn't recommend that actually. Recent developments in oculus made even me reconsider switching to valve. I own CV1 model for couple of years now, and starting from 2023 I will have to connect it with the real facebook account (emphasis on have to and real)

I have it and I wouldn't really recommend it, I have 19.3h on VR chat, 13.8h on Boneworks and 31hrs On HL Alyx, watching movies and stuff with it turned out to be way less fun than I initially though it would, also the trident cable broke so right now I can't even use it and mine is not even one 1y old.

Compare it to other popular VR headsets. I like that my odyssey+ doesnโ€™t need sensors installed in the room, which I believe the Index does. There are complaints around the WMR controllers, though I personally find them to be just fine.

The Index is a pretty nice headset no doubt, but it depends on what youโ€™ll play, the space you have, and if the extras the Index gives you are worth the extra money over other options

I still get "New orders ship in 8 or more weeks."

But since we're talking about what we need... what do we need, to do it right?

I'm considering getting an Oculus Quest 2 - how much "Index" do I need to get the same as an Oculus Quest (for PC play)? And how much more do I need to get the full Index experience? And does the Index even work for sitting in front of your computer or does it require a more dedicated VR-area?

You don't, I don't need it as well.

But the real question is why we will buy it anyway ?

Honestly speaking, VR headset is at the moment completely worthless.

I bought Oculus Rift S before price increase, played Beat Saber for ~15h and some other games and found it boring. There is just not enought content. Sold it after 3 months of collecting dust for a higher price tho :P

Technically, you only need water, food and oxygen. Certainly not a Valve Index.

Yes you should. I have mine since 2 weeks, fully paid with CSGO money and it's a blast but there are not so many good games and they rarely go on sale. I haven't tried beat saber yet, waiting for a the christmas sale, let's hope 10% discount.

VR is great, but depending on how you spend your time, might be for not as long time as you would think. I own oculus CV1 since couple of years and first couple of months I spent a lot of time in it. Now - not so much, it kinda gets stale over time. There are still less VR releases than regular game releases, so if you do mind playing the same game for a long time, think again.

On the other hand, you have funds for it stuck on your steam account anyway, so what the hell? It's not like you could cash it out anyway.

VR is a passing fad. Look at where motion controls were 10 years ago and look at where they are now.

Also keep in mind that VR requires a fairly powerful computer. If you have an older rig you'll need to upgrade or replace it.

Depends on what you want to do with it. I always thought I didn't need a VR headset until I tried out Beatsaber on the Index a few weeks ago.
Been playing every day since then and with custom songs it's not only a lot of fun, but actually seems to be a good substitute for working out :D
There are definitely not enough quality VR games out yet, but Alyx and Beatsaber alone made it worthwhile for me.

I wouldn't say that you "need" it.
I have been waiting for them to release it in Australia for a year now.
Finally I got tired and Pre Ordered an HP G2. Better resolution, worse max Refresh Rate. But its way cheaper.
Especially since here in Australia, they were offering a discount if you pre ordered. Getting it delivered in about a month.
If you are interested in VR, then Valve Index is a good option, especially better than others if you get motion sickness. The high refresh rate of 144, will help with that. For any other reason, the G2 is better. Screen door effect is pretty much eliminated. Here is a quick comparison between the 3 major VR headsets currently available.
