Hello,

I've got the key from fanatical, but when i tried to put the giveaway i didn't find the game in sg list. I noticed that the game exist in steamgifts as 'Check vs Mate'. The company has some problems with the name and they renamed it but in steam exist still as Battle vs Chess. I would like to suggest u to put the 'steam name' of the game here in the list.
p.s. Also the people who own the game can enter in the giveaway.

Use check vs mate. Its one of those games where it is named as one thing but in North America region its something else. I remember a little while back that SG knows about this and the moderators commented about this saying this is one game where they make an exception for. I cannot find the comment/link but maybe someone else can find that link for you.

Thank you for the answer. I think its gonna be helpful if they make topic about these games with different names. And fixing that if u have the game to can't enter in the giveaway.

Something something about how API's work, it just won't be possible (soon), same reason as why you can enter DLC and certain special editions of games with DLC, also if you already own them.

As to suggestions, rarely they get implemented and the owner is mostly working behind the scenes.

I'm pretty sure this must be the #1 most hated game here (after DLCs recognized as games), it's just a neverending source of hassle for all parties involved.

Long story short, there are two separate IDs, "Battle vs Chess", which we refer to as EU version (or more accurately, international, since it's actually available almost everywhere in the world), and "Check vs Mate", a North America only version, that had to have its name changed due to copyright issues.

Quite a few games have multiple versions with different IDs, but this one is a bit different, as the Steam store automatically redirects you to your regional version.
And since Steam Gifts is based in Canada, it detects it as Check vs Mate, and that's why it's the only version available in the giveaway list.

Now, what you get in bundles has always been Battle vs Chess, for simplicity's sake on the bundlers' part, I assume.
That's why support makes an exception, and considers them the same game for activation purposes.

But the API DOES check by ID, so this is what happens, since the site assumes the giveaway is for the NA version:

  • owners of Battle vs Chess who don't also own Check vs Mate can enter, but won't be able to activate the key;
  • owners of Check vs Mate who don't also own Battle vs Chess cannot enter, even though they could activate it just fine.

TL;DR: just give it away in a different way, or through a SGTools giveaway with a filter that excludes owners of the international ID.
DLC giveaways are even more complicated, better just avoid them entirely.
