Read now, so you don't complain later

What?

Yes, this is a 107-long train of wagons, carts, or however you call them. Big variety of bundle leftovers (HB and Fanatical, and two keys from developers). Aimed at levels 4 to 7. Every 25 carts, the level will raise. At cart 101, level will drop to 0, but you will need to be in my whitelist to enter them. This time I'm asking you to not request to be put in my whitelist, and no dramas please. Also, for the first time I'm asking for no generic thanks. Infractors of these two simple rules will face consequences. Even making a simple question that makes me think you've not read this will have that effect. However I expect thanks from the winners, and I'll not tolerate being impolite. Tough luck.

Why?

Past year I lost my girlfriend, the woman I loved. I said "loved", because I have been able to do something she asked me to do: pass the page. It has been tough, it has affected me deeply. Well, I will always love her in a way, for all the things she did for me. There's always a candle burning in a special corner within my heart.

And soon it'll be the first anniversary of her passing away peacefully. May the 4th be with you, Miss K.

Coincidentally, we also celebrated our anniversary this coming week, on the 6th. Once again I said "celebrated". You can guess I didn't celebrate anything last year, and this year... She's not my girlfriend, sadly. I'm actually trying to make good use of that day tho, but that's another story, for other people.

So in short, and as the title says, I'm celebrating the life of someone very special to me. While the train itself is for you all, it's dedicated to her memory.

And although I'm really knee deep on sentimentalism, this will probably be the last train I do in her memory. I already did another one past year, but I can't be doing this all my life. Always in my heart, but the show must go on.

How?

Manually. Oh yes, manually. Mostly manually, using LibreOffice Calc as helper, and a bit of Notepad++.

And a lot of patience and love. You better appreciate that!

When?

The train will run from right now for exactly one week. People who only visit SG during weekends will have a chance too. Then I will spend the afternoon of 9th sending the keys to the winners, if appropiate.

Where?

The ticket to enter the train:
123 - The number 1900 in lowercase roman numerals (3 letters). What, you don't know? Tons of online utilities to change between decimal positional system and roman numerals.
4 - in lowercase, the first letter of the only paragraph of the section "When?" - no, wait, the first letter of "the first letter". Or worse, the last letter of this section written backwards.
5 - in morse ยทยทยท- which in turn are the four famous notes of the Nth Symphony of Beethoven where N is a number and the same letter in roman numerals, and this already makes multiple references to a graphic novel with a protagonist was named as that single letter... Come on, by now you should even know that it must go in uppercase! ? for Vendetta...
https://www.steamgifts.com/giveaway/32154/ <-- notice the numbers are not in order...

Who

I'm JMM72, yes they're my initials and year of birth, how original. Call me J if you want. I've been in SG for 2.5 years, and somehow I've reached level 7. I am a very grateful person, I always say thanks to every person who I've won a giveaway from.

Thus this time I might propose some ways for you to be grateful to me. Some optional, some not, use your discretion:

  • Put images, animations or videos (embedded or linked) of cute, funny, fluffy kitties as comments in the giveaways. Try to use first the giveaways with no or less comments!
  • Comments or questions here or in the giveaways are welcome, but once again, no generic thanks - I'd be bomb-saturated by them and I want to blacklist some bots, autojoiners or blind joiners.
  • Spotting errors is very very welcome. Keep an eye on the first comment for updates.
  • Bump this thread as much as you want. Don't relay the giveaway links, but feel free to share this comment with your friends, neighbourghs, that cute someone sitting next to you on a public transport...
  • No condolences, please. It's already too late.
  • If you're a train maker, please allow me to inspire you to make a "Valentine's Train" in any day except Feb 14th! Love's Day is every day of the year if you have a loved one!
  • A comment in my Steam profile, reading my (few for now) reviews, maybe a little award...
  • If you are able and up to it, share with us your experience about losing your loved one and if it changed your life for the better (before, then, and after). For me, it indeed did.
  • Be kind. To everyone. Except to those who clearly don't deserve it. And to those, don't be anything at all. Don't waste time and energies you could use to be kind to the ones who deserve it.
  • I'm not going against the rules so I'll stop. Just be kind to others.

Reserved for updates

2-May: started
2-May: small corrections on the post, added a small hint. Apparently the entire train can be traversed without errors. Palming myself on the back...
3-May: I can't answer everything but some comments and stories touched me deeply. Also thank you for so many kitties! The aim is 107 comments in the main thread and at least 107 kitty pics/anims. Thank you!
4-May: I'm sad no one is bumping the thread. I was hoping 2-3 bumps daily after the initial day, but nope...
5-May: still three gibs with less than 5 entries. A recent thread with 2 games already has more bumps/thanks than mine. I wonder what I did wrong (besides the wall of text).
9-May: thanks to all participants and for achieving the goal of 107 comments in this thread. I've read all your messages and seen all your pictures and videos, so thanks again. Now please allow me to take my time to send all the gifts to the winners... I hope I can finish today!
Last Update: I've sent all gifts except six because I don't trust people who are in SG yet hide their game list or entire profile. I'll see if they unlock it soon, but I guess they'll not do it. So well, that's how things are. Once again, thank you everyone for your messages and pictures and videos.

I'm sorry, mate, but I thought a lot about the minimum level for the train. For a while it was 3, but 3 still has a lot of people who are not thankful when winning. Hence the level.

On the other hand, reaching level 4 isn't hard at all, just requires some patience and bundle leftovers, following promos to post here, etc.

I wrote some condolences, but I erased them when I saw that you didn't want them. Just a simple hug (and a few kittens)

Phew, fun little puzzle. Played with my mind for a bit, thanks for the train!
Very sorry to hear about what you've gone through. I commend your optimism and strength to move forward. As with all wounds, time will heal.
Appreciate your way of spreading positivity!

Except to those who clearly don't deserve it. And to those, don't be anything at all

Not going to lie, I never really thought of it like this - I always felt like I needed to feel something but hearing this sort of flipped a switch and just made me think for a while, at why I always felt like I needed to feel something towards everyone when I can just ignore it as a whole. (+ cat)

When someone doesn't offer anything positive to your life, ignore them. When they give something negative, don't waste energy on things like hate. Just keep them as far as possible.

There is a line from "Fiddler on the Roof"....

Rabbi: There is a prayer for everything.
Town folk: Even the Csar?
Rabbi: Yes, even for the Csar. May the Lord bless and keep the Csar... far away from us.

thanks for the puzzle and the train...
just please...add that the link to the "sample" GA is a clue itself !

the best part of your message is the simple strength you show by saying you have been able to "pass the page"

Recently, a family friend lost his life after spending around 9 years of his total 11 battling multiple cancers. A bone marrow match possibly could've saved him, but none was found.

For anyone reading this, please consider signing up at Be the Match. I signed up 10 years ago and it's very easy: answer some medical screening questions (takes about 5 minutes) and then request a swabbing kit. Swab your cheeks, send it in. Done.

Biggest question: doesn't it hurt?! Today, about 80% of bone marrow donations are done in a manner similar to donating plasma.

I've never been contacted and may never be...but being on the list is important.

JMM, my heart is with you.

Thank you again for the Memory train II. I always appreciate your posts.
I've chosen not to complain now or later, however, I'm confused... and can not follow the instructions under "Where".

Where?
The ticket to enter the train:
"123 - 1900 in lowercase roman numerals. What, you don't know? Tons of online utilities to change between decimal positional system and roman numerals."

<Brain Freeze>
The above quoted line to me reads "One Hundred Twenty Three THROUGH Nineteen Hundred, typed out in Roman Numerals.
That would be a huge string of characters for 1777 separate numbers written out in roman numeral form.
<Brain Explodes>

All this is my appreciative Entertainment for the Masses non-generic Thanks and an explanation of why I'm unable to participate.... since no one asked. ;) lol

...plus, Da Bump.

I am passing through the comments and so I have not yet attempted the puzzle, But you might consider that this is not a list of numbers... but rather a mathematical equation.

Edited to add.... No. It is not math, much simpler. I will just say that we know that the giveaways must have 5 characters. J has given very explicit instructions as to what each of the 5 characters is. J, if that is too much help, please accept my apologies. I am known to try too hard to help.

Well, glad you made it. Maybe the dash wasn't the best idea to separate two numbers ^_^ But the same formatting for 4 & 5 below should have given a hint...

About the Valentine's Day train suggestion: in Brazil we celebrate the date on June 12th. We never really cared about St. Valentin, and in february we only think about carnival, so this wasn't a Brazilian custom until a few years ago. : )

The reason for the date to be in June: in catholicism, June 13th is the day of Saint Anthony, the saint who arranges marriages. Therefore, the day before must be the lovers day, right? We call it 'dia dos namorados' that would be like 'boyfriend's day' (in portuguese, like in spanish, most words have gender inflection, but it is understood that the masculine includes the feminine in cases of generalization, so 'boyfriend', in portuguese, includes 'girlfriend' as well).

The real reason: in June there was no good commemorative date for shopkeepers and commerce, so a publicist (Joรฃo Doria, father of Joรฃo Doria, who is the current governor of the most populous Brazilian state, with more than 40 million inhabitants, and descendant by the famous admiral of Genoa, Andrea Doria) created the date in 1949.

So... I wrote a lot of useless facts, but here's the tip for the train: June 12th. : D

first attempt i failed to notice the numbers were not in order.

i'm not familiar with "pass the page" -- does it mean to move on? a year doesn't sound to me like enough time to have moved on from someone that close to you. of course it's tough and will always affect you. i'm sorry for your loss and hope all these giveaways will give you some joy and peace.

i entered a few giveaways and saw 2 in the 7+ that i would enter if my level was that high.

Perhaps the most common expression in English is 'turn the page' (like the Metallica's song) and it really means moving on, getting on with life, leaving the past behind and so on.
