Well I prefer these games I like aswell, but lately I just play VN, HOGs or nothing at all. It is bit hard to find some good games these days and with long games I have problem to play them once and never again return to them (which is problem with most of AAA games, because they are mostly longer ones), I just prefer games I finish in one session to never get to that point of returning. For few months I am trying to finish Life is Strange which suppose to be game I want to play, but I ended up to pushing myself to play it, which isn't funny at all... maybe one day I will beat it.

Just need a proper mindset to play games and a game that's interesting enough. Had a long dry spell with the hogs, visual novels (though I like VNs for their stories) but nothing really longer than 5ish hours. Then like 25+ hours in Dark Souls, because it's compelling to play more, to explore, like a real adventure! Sometimes it's worth rethinking what you want in your life / in your freetime, and picking a game based on that, or segment it and play for little goals, one at a time.. Like I think Gaping Dragon and first half of Blighttown as one day, then Quelaag and out of BLighttown the second. Maybe 3-4 hours each, and I feel that I'm making progress. Though the game is not like Ubisoft's repeat 5-6 activity until eternity type of game, that surely helps :)
