3 months ago I bought Tier 2 of the Lifehacker bundle. I specifically bought it for DisplayFusion and indeed this application does not disappoint. It makes working with two screens significantly more convenient, and the Steam license is better than other options they offer because it can be installed on all the computers that I use. The other applications, however, didn't really become indispensable.

Tier 1 - Breevy looks useful, but I'm used to entering text blocks using macros (with my Logitech G13 keybaord), so haven't really invested time to see if this software provides a better solution. I installed Fences on two machines and haven't gotten used to it. The only positive thing is that it makes me use the Desktop less. DeskScapes I don't care about (don't care much about wallpapers and screensavers). Directory Opus 12 Light I tried and couldn't find anything of value that it actually does better than Windows Explorer. I asked in their forum and got nothing useful.

Tier 2 - DisplayFusion I already mentioned and it's excellent. LastPass Premium I don't need because I use the open source KeePass and it's just perfect for my needs, so no point in switching to a commercial alternative. CyberGhost VPN - I haven't even started my subscription, but I see the value. I probably should before it expires in May.

I didn't buy tier 3, so no Acronis True Image 2017 or Bitdefender Antivirus Plus 2017, but I don't feel I'm missing too much and I'm not a fan of subscription-based software.

If you bought this bundle, or if you use these applications I'd be curious to hear what are your conclusions about them.

DisplayFusion
Breevy
Fences
DeskScapes
Directory Opus 12 Light
LastPass Premium
CyberGhost VPN
Acronis True Image 2017
Bitdefender Antivirus Plus 2017

A multiple selection poll would have made sense here, but unfortunately it's not supported.

i got it most specifically for pcmark08 & vrmark, but will also use easeus partition master, possibly daemon tools, & already owned 3dmark but will still use that also. what are you talking about Acronis True Image 2017?? that's apart of this bundle? and bitdefender?

edit: oh my bad... i'm talking about the current one.. need to start drinking caffeine again. :/

That's a different, more recent, software bundle. I'm talking about one from 3 months ago, linked in the OP.

I was using the free version of DisplayFusion before getting the bundle, so that's one I'm still using and it's really immensely useful with multiple displays, as Windows is making only tiny progress on that front still. I like being able to set a hotkey that locks mouse cursor within the current window for example, which is really handy for games that don't lock it and it ends up flying over to other displays. Its multi-monitor taskbar is also superior and more configurable. I also like the ability to force all new windows to the main display with just few exceptions I set up. Damn, it's just a great piece of software.

I've been using Directory Opus too since I was just on a fresh install at that time and a simple dual pane file explorer is all I need. I know there are better free solutions most likely but eh, I don't need anything else.

Also using keepass; and I wouldn't try a subscription software anyway, don't want to be suckered into it :-)

What's the benefit of dual display in Directory Opus compared to just having two Windows Explorer windows (or more) side by side?

I used Norton Commander back in DOS days and it was great, but I haven't really found any need for this type of file management when the regular OS file manager allows easy drag and drop between two or more windows.

None, I guess. But Explorer doesn't have tabs I think, without a third party addon. I have about 10 tabs on each pane since I'm a lazy bum.

I agree with you on Directory Opus 12 Light, but I have to give kudos to Fences, because using it finally decluttered my desktop!!

Also, bump, without entering 8)

Fences definitely declutters the desktop, I'll give it that. The thing is that I don't actually use these containers, but rather open the Desktop in a window (in details view), or simply search for the file or folder than I need.

Sorry, I originally replied to the wrong message :|

I should note that I use "Everything" many times a day, to instantly search for files. For those that I use constantly, I have revived the quick launch toolbar in which I have created shortcuts.

The main use of Fences is to maintain my "Games" Fence 8)

In every other need, I open the desktop folder like you said, in windows explorer, details view.

And BTW, Norton Commander in autoexec.bat and you were ready to go 8)))

The only interesting thing in that bundle to me was Display Fusion which I already own and use for many years, so I didnt buy it. I LOVE it to pieces and it is worth every single cent I paid for it and even more. Makes the life on multi-monitor setups so much easier in so many ways.

Quick question: does DisplayFusion allow defining custom variable size grids that can be switched between, on the fly, where you can place your running programs into, via custom defined hotkeys? This is especially useful on 4K screens and allows you to emulate multiple smaller screens. I'm currently using Actual Multiple Monitors that allows that feature and I'm wondering if DisplayFusion supports that too.

I think it does. See this dialog:

Not quite a grid-like definition but "Move Window to Specific Size and Location" comes pretty close to that.
Thanks for the reply.

I almost bought it for Display Fusion, but I decided to download the trial version to test it out first. The program was neat, but more or less not something Id end up using. Im not overly picky with my monitor set up. As long as they turn on, thats about all I need, so all the extra options and set ups were useless to me. But if someone DID need/want more control over their set up, Id highly recommend it.

Oh... Directory Opus still exists. Honestly there is not a single application I need. Maybe some of them were usefull 15 years ago.

I have Fences installed, and like it. DOpus is handy when I need a dual-pane view, eg sorting out my horrendously disorganised documents. Breevy was the one I was really interested in, but in reality laziness came into play and I've barely used it XD

I didn't purchase the bundle because I rarely even use these kinds of software. I'm a basic guy, I use paint instead of Gimp because I can't be assed to learn a new software.

I've been using LastPass premium for several years now, regardless of the bundle. I'd also use BitDefender if I haven't bought Kaspersky last year. The rest, are not interesting still.

Bought it for the VPN.
The other apps are pretty useless for me :

  • I installed Fences but I have so few icons that it's not necessary.
  • My wallpaper is just a plain black background and I disabled the screensaver.
  • I use KeePass so I've no use of the LastPass sub
  • DisplayFusion should be useful but I don't have any issue working with my two screens without it. And the free version would probably do what I'd need.
  • Directory Opus : same as you, tried it, uninstalled it as it didn't add anything useful vs the clutter it adds.
  • Acronis : I already have an cloud-based backup subscription and I'm very happy with it (and is cheaper).
  • Bit Defender : I don't see the use of an antivirus, it slows the computer. Microsoft tools are enough. Keep your system and apps up-to-date and don't open shady files.

Some of those tools might be useful on my work PC, but I won't use personal licences on this one (and I doubt I'm supposed to install them in the first place)

I bought the bundle for CyberGhost VPN. It's...ok. It's got average to decent speeds. Their TOS says they don't keep any user logs at all. They don't have as many countries to use as I would like (few Asian countries and no South American servers at all) but overall it's not bad I guess. They even allow p2p usage on select servers.
