No, it's a friend's malteser girl. :) Wish I had time for pets. :/

Aww, she is adorable!

As someone who also doesn't have time or bandwidth for pets, I think friends with pets are the best. You can come over, get some pet time in, and then go home. No waking up at 6am to let your dog out, no going for walks in the rain, no coming home to find that your dog has torn up the living room rug and chewed through all the AV cables, no learning that your pet has a urinary tract infection or that your dog has found and eaten two bags of chocolate (but no the white chocolate, because even dogs have standards). It's like the all the perks of pet ownership with none of the downsides. :)

Yup in other words pretty much same perks as for kids. :D
Personally I wouldn't mind all that, I'd love to have a pet, but with my situation/condition that's just not possible. :/

Oh, I think kids are completely different. Other people's pets are great! Other people's kids... I have no interest in other people's kids. :)

I've come to learn that there are dog people and there are people who like dogs, and I am definitely of the latter. After years of wanting a dog, I finally had two dogs, then one dog, and now zero dogs, and I am really happy to be pet free again. I like pets, but after having cats and dogs, I've realized that I like not having pets even more. :)

I wasn't referring to the interest part, you brought that up. But now that you mention it, friends' kids are not same as other people's kids. As for being completely different I disagree. In many respects children are similar to pets when it comes to all that negative stuff you described/experienced but also for all the love, joy and happiness they bring. I've babysat both my friends' kids and their dogs and there are many similarities.
Dog people can like dogs and people who like dogs can be dog people, they are not mutually exclusive by any means.
I love all animals (except for the creapy-crawlies), the more the merrier. I used to be a devoted "dog mum" to the only doggy I've ever had, he passed away after 11 years and it felt like losing my child, still to this day I haven't come over it. Unfortunately I can't have another one due to my current condition, but if I could I absolutely would.
Each to their own. :)

You're right, kids and pets are very similar in those regards. I think the main difference is that kids eventually grow up out of that phase, while pets never do.

And I kind of understand how you must feel about your doggy. I had to put down our pug because she was too old and sick and wasn't living a happy life anymore, and it was very sad. I like to remind myself that she went the way she would have wanted to - stuffing her face full of treats. And I have many fond memories of our rescue beagle.
