We had a Japanese exchange student for 10 months when I was a teenager. I still love her to pieces, 30 years later. Her English is really rusty, so I'd like to be able to talk to her in Japanese.

I just want to play certain titles that are exclusive to Japan. Super Robot Taisen is my personal crack in that regard.

Sadly, the Super Robot Taisen series is GBA/SNES/PSX/PS2/PS3/PS4 for the most part. Would love to see it on PC, but it's hard, because it's basically a mashup of mecha anime stories, with the featured anime series changing from game to game. Gundam is a certainty in almost every game. Then there's Macross, Code Geass, Full Metal Panic, Mazinger and the list goes on.

As far as games for the PC that are Japan exclusive, there are a few eroge series that are pretty interesting but are neither fan TL'd nor officially localized, like the Ikusa Megami series.

Just my two cents ... SRT is not the best example of great japanese exclusive games. It's a mash-up fanboy "what if" mecha SRPG but the story is always silly, and the gameplay is more or less fire emblem, animations and all.

Better examples: venus and braves, sakura taisen, the silver case (now available on steam in english), FATE series games / many of which have not been translated, phantasy star online 2 (fan patches exist), and JP PSP exclusive the last ranker, one of my favorite capcom games.

Why not? I already understand quite a lot when listening to someone speaking. Learning is fun.

I'd like to read manga / watch anime without waiting for the translations/subs :P

The variety of manga would be broadened if I didn’t have to rely on translations. Thanks, this is on my wish list.

I shameless aways wanted to learn some japenese to be able to play all the awesome games that never get a ocidental release (Especialy about every macross game ever launched), and mangas that never get even a fan trasnlation. Out of that probably would be really really handy to be able to at least read the basics of japanese to be able to dig on japanese sites of nerd/otaku/geek stuff ^^'

And thanks for the chance there! :)

Would be nice to learn Japanese because I have a slight urge to live there someday.
Its also p useful to know.
Learning other languages is also pretty cool imo.
It's like knowing one thing that people might not expect from you, and you can surprise them.

I've always wanted to visit Japan (potentially on exchange), and so learning the language would be an added bonus. Also, I'd love to read obscure manga (as in, manga that's not popular enough to be translated into English). Oooh, and I'd also like to be able to listen to japanese music without needed translations to understand the lyrics.

I know conversational Japan, but reading kanji takes a long time to learn.

I'd like to learn it because I plan to visit Japan. Although I already use things to learn. The programs I use are too lenient and there's no urgency to remember things because they eventually just give you the answer and move along... Although Japanese Infinite does it right. They bring back old stuff as they introduce new stuff. Granted it's single words in the beginning. It was fun and punished the right way compared to things like duolingo. I got off topic a bit sorry. I'd like to learn how to say all sorts of things so I don't have a specific phrase. I already know basic phrases that could get me into a conversation but once there I would most likely be unable to continue it... Haha. Good luck to all though!
