I thought this looked like a delightful and simple puzzle but somehow I can't get it, even allowing for some ambiguity regarding the order to read the result in. I can see no ambiguity in the first (top left) and last (bottom right) character, so I tried all possibilities of the form /C***4/ and none worked!

I'm sorry to see it too late, but on the other hand I can give a solution at least.
The answer is CqfA4
Just imagine that devastating laser going from top to bottom and we need to name letters that it destroy first.
Maybe you tried with wrong capitalization?

Thanks, it was tormenting me and I'm pretty sure your solution was the third one I tried and I think I must have tried it again when I tried to test all /C***4/ possibilities, but apparently I mistyped something both times! Nice idea though -- "playing this game without game and before you won it"!
