Enjoy.
Also, I'm not really into Total War, so if you like these kinds of games, may I ask what specifically appeals to you about it. Just curious.

That's a good question. I wonder if I can answer it without writing a "book?" I like strategy and tactics, of course, and the Total War games allows me scratch that itch while also being "cinematic" about the battle(s). Moving numbered squares around a map and rolling some dice is OK, but real-time battles are much more involving. Plus, there's the grand-strategy side of TW games, which I also enjoy. Some TW games are better than others, though.
Anyhow, thanks for the wishlist giveaway. )

I can see that, the big battles do look cool. I haven't played it yet, but I got Mount and Blade: Warband for the seeming coolness of being a part of a grand battle. Also, some of my favorite moments in FPS games are when you feel like your part of a larger war, like in Halo when you have all your allies along side you fighting.

The grand battles. Having some of my army flank and take the enemy by surprise. It's like a movie.

I'm yet to try a TW game and since I like strategies and Three Kingdoms era this might be a great title to try.
Thank you for the giveaway!

That's cool. In the past I had a friend who would talk about facts he seemed to have gotten from these games as they try to simulate and represent real parts of history. I think that's awesome.

that feeling when you have less troops than the enemy and you pull off a win with proper tactics

I've never played a TW game, but I love the Romance of the 3 Kingdoms series A LOT and have wanted to try this. Thank you for the chance =)

i really like the whole total war series because in total war shogun 2 for example you could learn about the history of japan. I really like the strategic aspect and the decisions you can make.
Ty for the chance!

Huh, that's cool, Japan history seems fun for me. And I just checked, and this game is in my library (I remember it was given for free a while ago). Guess it will be worth checking out if I ever want to try the Total War series ever.

Have you tried Civilization V? It's a good series and you can probably pick up the full game for cheap on sale.
The strategy and satisfaction you get from your moves and figuring out how best to defeat your opponents is interesting. Or well, just seeing an empire grow/build is pretty neat.

Civ V for some reason is not on sale, but VI is! Personally I liked VI more than V.

Going to assume its because of the recent humble choice.

I personally can't compare since I don't have VI, but I heard people say that VI (no dlcs) is less enjoyable than V. But VI is better than V with dlcs.
Is it worth looking into?

I think there's a degree of nostalgia going on here with the way people talk about the games :P V was at launch heavily derided for lacking content and just being a bit bland, but that was 11 years ago. And people said that V was only good with DLC.
VI comes with more content out of the box than V, and it works a bit better, because they had the chance to learn from the mistakes made in V (which was kind of a reboot of the series). V with all the DLCs has more stuff than VI with no DLCs, but I still think VI is a bit better, it has a bit more depth to it thanks to the expanded systems surrounding districts, which makes where you settle your city matter more than it did in V (or any of the past Civs), and you need to adapt more to your surrounding. With all the DLC, VI feels significantly better.

Interesting, I might have to look into VI then, thank you for taking the time to give your insight.
Probably will wait till they have the complete edition or something : P

I love Civ 5, and still play it after 11 years :) It's so addictive.
(Never tried 6, mostly because they changed the leaders into caricatures and the whole art style kinda cartooney.)

Civ 5 is so good. Just picked it up again somewhat recently.
Too addictive for my own good.

Yep, I actually played the demo because a friend told me to try it and got addicted to it. It was weird though because I wasn't really thinking to be honest, I was just following instructions. I didn't want to continue after that one addicting play session though, although it made me consider the fact that I can indeed like strategy games.
I think it was the growth of my team I enjoyed. The feeling your getting more and more powerful and taking over more and more land.

It's always good to try all sorts of things. Never know what you might like or discover.
And if you don't like it, fair enough, you tried it :D
Growth and seeing the progression is also pretty addicting.

Totally agree with this statement since I used to think I would not like JRPGs and now a couple of favourite games are JRPGs. Right now I'm really into Visual Novels, but I would have totally written them off in the past.

Nice, I'm happy for you :D
Speaking of Visual novels, if you've ever heard of the Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney Series, its a pretty good one : P

Not gonna lie, I suck at strategy games. Total War's allure to me is simply watching thousands of tiny little people under my command go to war against thousands of other tiny little people.

Was gonna write the exact same thing. Terrible at strategy, great at watching spectacle. An absolute blast to see chaos and insanity of battle unfold your very eyes.

Lol. I haven't played it yet, but that's what intrigued me about Totally Accurate Battle Simulator.

I wanted to like Total War in the past, but it wasn't till Total War Warhammer did the series click for me.
The addition of single-entity heroes and monsters added A LOT to the game.
Also, upgrading from a potato PC helped, too. Total War really is a game designed to push your computer to its limits.

I actually didn't consider these games could be heavy on performance, but it makes sense now that I think about it.

To answer your question, it's my love for strategy games that stems all the way from the first Red Alert and Cossacks. I didn't play any such strategy game in a long while, and I never played a total war game, so it's just the fact that huge armies going against each other appeals to me always. And the feeling of success once you defeat your enemy with superior tactics.

I feel like there are two questions baked into one there. Why do I enjoy grand strategy games like Total War, and why would I play a Total War game when there are so many other grand strategy games out there that are deeper?
Let's start with the second question, why would I play a Total War game when I have Europa Universalis?
Two reasons: The tactical battles, with large armies duking it out. These are just so satisfying to watch and play. The second reason is that there's a degree of immediacy to the Total War series that most other grand strategy games don't get. In most other you're in it for the long haul, you're making decisions now that will have a payoff that won't be all that noticeable until some time in the future. In Total War games you make big, obvious decisions and that's satisfying, particularly when you just want to turn off your brain for a bit. So I'm a big fan of these games.
As for grand strategy games, I find it satisfying to see my empire grow, starting relatively small and then growing in a way I want it to, while trying to out-wit my neighbours, forming alliances and making long-term plans.

In general I just enjoy strategy games. In particular in regards to the TW series I enjoy the mix of turn & real time strategy.
The battles are quite interesting as are the dynamics involved in the turn based play. Most of my experience with the TW series is through TW: Warhammer 1 & 2 as I enjoy WH / WH40K. :)

While I'm not into Warhammer, I'm aware that there's a lot of depth to the Warhammer universe and I've witnessed people in full on conversations about it, and I felt totally lost.

Got hooked on the tactics in the original Shogun and how with the right approach one could turn the tide even in the worst of situations. At the time there was no other game like it.

Strategy games in general and I think Total War series was the first to introduce actually large number of units on screen so one had the feeling of controlling a real army. Gratitude for three generals.

I live in Asia and for me it's interesting to see how foreigners make an ancient Chinese game from their own perspective.
