Somehow, suddenly, August is rolling to a close. This happens every year: not only the actual middle of August, but also my curious surprise that we've arrived here already. How did this happen? Shouldn't there have been a memo?

The most flagrant heat is probably behind us - fingers crossed! - and this week looks in the forecasts like it should be reasonable, even temperate. I hope it behaves, we could use a little breathing room. I'm on a break between jobs, trying to score some background work to tide me over since, well, it's always nice to be able to pay the bills.
