Description

Hello, SG!

I have a friendly support request for you all. Rule breakers get away when nobody checks or reports them. Please check your winners for rule violations (SGTools is a great way to do that) before sending your gifts to winners and support will take care of any issues that you flag. Help keep SG more fair for everyone!

Also, as a reminder to everyone:

When should I mark a gift I won as "Received" or "Not Received"?

You should only mark a gift as "Received" when you have both (i) received the exact game described in the giveaway, and (ii) activated that game on the Steam account you used during registration. In all other instances you should mark the gift as "Not Received" one week after the giveaway has ended.

What should I do if I win a game more than once, or if I win a game that I already purchased?

When this occurs, you should contact the giveaway creator and inform them you will not be accepting or redeeming the gift. Explain the situation, and ask the giveaway creator to request a new giveaway winner. During this process you should not mark the gift as "Received", or reveal the key if the option is available. This will help inform us that you are not accepting the gift, and it will prevent you from being suspended for not activating a gift you won. Once the ticket from the giveaway creator is approved for a new winner, the win will be removed from your profile.

Thanks. I had this happen once where I got a key for a different game than the one the giveaway was for. Unfortunately, the giveaway creator didn't bother replying or apologizing, so I had to mark as not received.

Hello, would you mind clarifying what kind of violations should I look for and how to report it? I used SGTools to check a user's activated games, I reported them using the button on their profile, and the ticket got marked as "resolved", but I'm not sure if should send the game and if I should report any more people I find. Checking each win is quite time consuming (especially when I'm trying to give away 6 months worth of leftovers) and I don't want to waste staff time with invalid reports either.

Hello Ameto.

If you are already doing the SGTools check, then you're probably doing all that I'm asking (though none is actually required, this is only a request). I'd just want to to clarify to check not only activated games, but also multiple wins.

Unfortunately, it is possible your new winner after a reroll has also broken some rule and should be checked as well. It is not unheard of (though not necessarily common) for users to reroll 10+times before finding a good winner.

As far as your time goes, I don't want any part of the experience to be super annoying for anyone, so it's entirely up to you how much you do. For staff time, I assure you it is generally not a lot of work to validate what you've reported and either act on it or clear the user (because, say, they've already been suspended for their infractions). On the contrary, for me anyway, it's more of a hassle to work through a ticket where the reported user has multiple, long-standing issues that haven't been addressed. In other words, if the first infraction is caught early, it's easier to deal with later. As well, hopefully an early catch helps make sure a new users isn't mistakenly breaking the rules, rather than maliciously, so we can prevent future issues altogether.

Thanks for checking in, but if you have any more questions, feel free to reply and ask!
