I guess Steam figured out people still needed a way to troll with awards or nobody would ever use the feature?

I see a lot of people trading them, or offering to, getting a lot of awards. Same with people that appear to be female. Some do genuinely put in work for their profile and get them too.

Same with reviews, or guides, that are popular. A good guide seems like the best farm, although in this case, doing something unpopular has definitely gained more than most.

Whats the problem with this? 🤔

They're making PSN account required to play. For some people I know PSN isn't even available in their country. Not sure if that's the only problem.

Hm, I did not know its not available somewhere... 🤔 Strange. Btw I am not sure if its not available they would not let people to play... On other hand I can understand Sony, that they push this... 😅

I saw someone post this info not sure how accurate
PSN is available in 69 countries around the world. right now there are (roughly) 190 independent countries in the world. The whole of Africa and even european Baltic countries are excluded

Yeah I used to have a PSN account for my PSP then got banned for some reason after a data breach. If Helldivers 2 goes this way this is going to be "fun".

I also saw a screenshot that people need to provide picture of legal document and cam picture to verify it is them, during registration process.
This is stuff that only should be required at banking level accounts not for a game to prevent cheating or whatever they try to spin.

That is strange to me, I mean when I created my PSN account a couple years back, i did not needed picture of ID... But on other hand I dont think its a bad idea... Your account is not over 18, you cannot play games meant for adults... 😅

Wanted to know if the community acted like mature, responsible and sensible adults or if they just downvoted the game in a temper tantrum. Checked reviews, was not disappointed.

On one hand, it's really not surprising this is now becoming a requirement being that Playstation is the Publisher for Helldivers 2, and also it's really not even difficult to link an account, much less make a PSN account. I linked mine when I first got the game, so for those who can easily do it and just don't feel like it are just throwing a fit IMO. On the other hand though, I'd understand the complaints a lot more if you had to also have PS+ for online play on PC, now that would be stupid asf and that would cause the majority of the community to leave, including myself until changed. Also, it's completely reasonable for those who cannot even make a PSN account in their country if they already own Helldivers 2, hopefully that can be fixed for them. Just my take though :)

You can call it a fit, but just because something is easy doesn't mean it is right...
The matter is that players were forced into something that wasn't sold to them AFTER such sale and that is not how you do business. Players can be against it either you believe it's a fit/easy or not. It's never about being easy, it's about what is right and this isn't. Also just because it's easy to create an account, why does that make it any better?!?
Low adversity =/= Good

Wasn't the requirement already on the store page? I admit no interest in the game since I don't tend to play always online games, but heard that was listed as a requirement on the store, just relaxed early on due to issues.

Completely understand players. New requirement after couple of months is stupid. Either have it as a requirement at point of sale or leave it optional. For new players? Sure, they can decide if they want to play the game or not. For current players that cannot refund? That just doesn't make sense.

I think (and hope), that some customer ombudsmen in EU may take a strong objection to this move. It probably breaks EU RODO regulations as well. I'm also curious, if Sony is watching the Ignore counter for the game. I sure hope, that they do, and that my ignore is one of many more coming with this decision.

Not the first time, that they do their best to kill their game. They have done even worse, almost killing EverQuest 2 selling their customers. For months they have even insisted, that their EU players using US servers will have to transfer to EU run servers, leaving their communities. Before they backtracked on this, US servers have been already devastated. The tsunami caused by them has been so strong, that even an Aussie guild on US server, that I've been a part of, got destroyed before they've finally gave up this idea .of forcing all EU players out of US servers. And EQ2 has never recovered since then :(

Here. if interested, you can see my goodbye with my guild and with my beloved Horse of a Different Color (which randomly changed color every time, that you mounted it), when I was expecting, that very shortly I'll get forcefully transferred to an EU server. Probably the most heartbreaking event in the whole 20 years of my online gaming. At the last moment they have made a U-turn, but it's been much too late for me, for my guild and for the whole community :(

EDIT: Oh, and the typical Sony's answer to problems caused by them - the topic has already been locked by the moderators, so folks could not complain any longer, lol.

Those companies only come to their senses when they're fined in the ten figures range and I'm not very optimistic for such a result.

Mandatory change for people that already own the game and can't refund? And all that so Sony can get more telemetry of what I do in steam? Thanks, but no thanks

I'm fine with this if they allow refunds. Let the players decide and they deal with the consequences of their choice. Fair to both sides.

At least for the people in countries who don't have PSN. This isn't even pricing certain countries out of buying the game, it's essentially banning them from playing. They can make accounts via a VPN but that's risking their account being banned (and probably their helldivers account at risk too).

From what I read, PSN requirement was known even before game was released, it was just postponed until now.
But kinda wonder what Sony will do with all the players who are from countries where PSN is not available... Well, more like, how they'll write "fuck you"...

To be fair, most people would see the requirements, ask in the forums where thousands of users would comment that they are using the game without the Sony account, and assume that was no longer really required. At least they could refund the game if they saw they couldn't play.

It mentions "we allowed the linking requirements for Steam accounts to a PlayStation Network account to be temporarily optional". So were people aware this was eventually going to change?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

It's been a "requirement" on the Store Page since release, but disabled for months because of technical issues.

With that said, I think it's beyond slimy to strong-arm players into a 3rd-party account after the fact, even if it was the initial intention. It's been months since release with no such condition to play and since then, HD2 has been sold in multiple markets without PSN access. I'm not sure how Sony can flip flop without issuing refunds to customers without the means to create an account legally.

They locked it so I couldn't say I approved that message and farm me some jester points...
But it is a really moronic thing to do, lol. "Due to technical issues at the launch of HELLDIVERS™ 2, we allowed the linking requirements for Steam accounts to a PlayStation Network account to be temporarily optional. That grace period will now expire."
We're just starting to enforce it now due to technical issues in our brains, we were going to show that PSN accounts were required when it launched, but we accidentally flashed ourselves with a mind wipe device when the issues with the game were happening, and we just now saw the notes we had left for ourselves saying we didn't want too many content players.

I linked my PSN account right away, and it wouldn't be too hard to make a new email to sign up for a PSN account and forget about, but that's just a stupid thing to require and conveniently forget to mention until now. XP

EDIT: Changed wording because technically they did say it was required before, despite them proving it wasn't.

That's impressive.

My favorite part of Sony's announcement is tge part where they say they're requiring the game being linked to PSN accounts to offer safety and security to gamers. PSN. Which has been data hacked at least ten times in the last decade. Lulz.

"safety and security" LOL. They had a data breach of more than 7000 of their own employees. And how many times they have been hacked already? Wasn't it 77 MILLION users that had their data stolen?

I straight up don't understand the outrage. Like, it was clearly indicated in the steam page, I remember very well checking it before buying. And it was indeed active during the first 2 weeks but was allowed to people without PSN after because the servers had problems handling all the users.
