I am trying to reduce my screen time, and walking away from SG is on the list along with deleting FB groups and reducing gaming time. I currently have only one page of entries with the longest having still two weeks to go. I am still entering GA's, but only those with less than a couple days to go.
I guess we'll see how this works for me. XD

How would you take a break from SG?

View Results
Remove all entries and log off (Cold Turkey)
Wait until the last entry is done and log off (Taper Off)
Are you freaking NUTS?!? (Never)
Potato (Spud)

Good luck, hope it will work out for you!
Not sure what would work best since for some if not cold turkey it won't work and for some, reducing step by step is the way to go.
Is there a specific reason why you want to reduce screen time?

I need to spend more time going outside, walking my dog, taking him to the park, meeting people, etc. You know, normal life things from before the advent of the PC. 😊

Ah okay yeah that's always good! Enjoy your time with your dog! Maybe even make some new friends ^^
I always made a rule that when I walk with the dog, I have no music on so I can give my full attention to her, well, unless when I get a call but I often see people walking their dog while being on their phone and I find that such a waste of the quality time with the dog!

When I walk with or without my dog, I have no music on because I need to hear what is going on around me. But yeah, I have seen people at the dog park that just sit on a bench with their faces in their phones instead of paying attention to their dogs. The zombie apocalypse is upon us.

I would slowly phase it out. First, I'd only visit SG once per day. Then just once every two days, then once a week ...

Then once a month, then once a year, then not at all...

Best of luck! I hope reducing screen time gives you some peace of mind, or a new perspective, or any other goal you're looking to achieve.

I don't have a job where I have to use a computer or a screen so it helps but I can see friends and loved ones struggling with reducing their screen time.
A friend of mine has had some success with setting a maximum time (with an actual timer on his phone and PC) and he gets an alert when he gets close to it. He doesn't cold turkey but he usually turns off his devices, and go out for a run or something and he leaves his phone behind.
If it's raining he just puts some music on and meditate. He found it helps him not go back to the screens.

If he has time left after he is done with work, he plays games or browse but he noticed that he is being "less wasteful" when it comes to "fun" screentime now.

I don't know if that would work for anyone really. I think you're right in trying to cut down and SG of course tends to bring us back to check what's been posted etc. It makes sense to want to cut back on that and I think you can do it progressively.
I hope you still come around to give us a hello from time to time but no pressure and good luck on your journey.
