Symphonia runs like shit ...

Symphonia is easily the better of the two. Zestiria was quite a stain on the series. Only thing is that Symphonia runs quite poorly, and is nothing like the original for people who played it. I'd probably recommend Berseria at this point, unless you can get the Gamecube version of Symphonia.

The thing is, Berseria do look quite good but the price not so much.

It is a little on the expensive side. If you give it a few months, it'll start reaching prices similar to what Zestiria is running now. I personally feel it's worth the wait. Berseria is playable without having played Zestiria, but you won't get some of the references or their importance. If you'd like to eventually play Berseria, you could play Zestiria, but having enjoyed Vesperia, I don't think you'll like it much.

I personally feel like it's one the worst ones in the series. Mind, my opinion is very biased, my first Tales games were Symphonia, Abyss and Vesperia. Game play-wise, it's nothing like the others. It focuses almost entirely upon armatization, which means instead of like the other Tales games using the LMBS where you constantly have 4 party members, or if not, it's due to a split in the story, it feels like you're playing with 2.

Then there's the story. The characters seriously have no drive to do what they're doing. Just because of how they were brought up, they decide they want to save the world. It's literal nothingness that brings the main characters together with the rest of the team. Most Tales series games have to deal with reason, or emotion. With Symphonia, there's the world regeneration, the Desians, and Lloyd being kicked out of his home. With Vesperia, it's an epic quest. With Abyss, Luke needed to find his way home, and on this path there was discovery of himself and the world around him.

Even Xillia and Xillia 2, which people consider neither bad or good, and we don't speak of, respectively, can be considered better.

Damnit. Now I wish I had that extra $5 I had left on that Visa gift card when I got the last Namco HB for Zestira. I want Symphonia. :(

Oh well, gas for the car comes first I guess.

If you are looking for good RPG's, you should take a look at Dragon age Origins and the Mass Effect series in case you haven't done it yet :)

Tales of Symphonia & Tales of Zestiria were the only titles I've ever played from the Tales of Series, and i enjoyied both equally, I maybe liked Zestiria a little better.

I played both and Symphonia is the one I enjoyed the most. That being said I was a kid and had it for the Gamecube, but got so much enjoyment out of it. Not sure how the PC version holds up. There were so many surprises and it was worth backtracking to previous locations. Zesteria felt more linear, and although it looked a bit better, there was no big revelations or anything in the game. Felt like a straight up JRPG. Not to say I didn't enjoy it.
