I got some questions for the folks on sg about blacklisting:

  1. Do you have a blacklist for people that you don't want in your giveaways?

  2. Why were they blacklisted? Name some reasons

  3. Do you think it's ok to blacklist someone who didn't thank you upon winning and receiving a game?

Comment Hijack for OP:

Yes I do.

Blacklist can only be used if allowed by SG admins, they are mostly used in big groups where there are people who act bad, break SG rules, or Private reasons of which have a sensible logic, thus my reasons for them being blacklisted.

It is indeed fine to blacklist someone who is not thankful when receiving a game, though there is no need to blacklist someone who didn't said thanks on a giveaway because I think all those spammy "thanks" as senseless.

I would post my Blacklist, but I think that would be calling out users :)

I don't think its possible to blacklist users from giveaways? I've did a quick search in the 'FAQ and guidelines' thread and didn't find anything.

Either way, I wouldn't. Unless if a group giveaway count as 'blacklisting'.

There isn't anything in the FAQ, but it is possible. You just have to make a support ticket informing that you want to make a blacklist for your private and group giveaways (doesn't count for SteamGifts official Steam group and public giveaways). You don't have to bring list of people or give reasons. After Loko's answer you're free to make such thing.

I have a mental blacklist consisting of one person who was just a complete asshat. The only person to not thank me after winning is Jeyko so maybe he should be added to my blacklist :)

If this are people who do this always or just forgot to do so once. Do they thank on giveaways or not and so on.

Hard to explain!

I think blacklists are basically stupid; but I guess people are free to choose who they don't want to give free games to...

I don't have a blacklist, and I don't feel the need of having one. In the case of blacklisting due to lack of gratitude, I'd say no for public giveaways. In case of group giveaways, well, if you don't like how a group member behaves, why are you in the same group with him / her?

  1. Yes.

  2. Being a complete and total arsehole to people, puzzle leaking, spamming, being a moron like the world has rarely seen, sexual harrassment and my personal favourite, "posting far too much Dolan". Yes, that's really one of the reasons I wrote down. Some of the people on my blacklist are banned permanently. They're there anyway, for posterity.

  3. Yes, and thank you for reminding me to add someone onto my blacklist. I'd totally forgotten about them.

Just ask loko in a support ticket for permission. You don't have to make one instantly, but it doesn't hurt getting the permission early.

I would blacklist anyone that hasn't even given away a single game after winning 3 giveaways
if I could at least

1 decade ago

  1. Nope. There's some people I don't like for various reasons, but banning them from my giveaways is too much of a hassle. Public giveaways are for everyone including jackasses, and private/group giveaways already tend to keep out the worst riff-raff.

  2. N/A, but the people on my Steam blocklist are all scammers, beggars, and one or two who were just extremely annoying.

  3. Fuck off. I'm very much in favor of saying thank you for giveaways, but making it mandatory is just retarded and defeats the purpose.

"upon winning and receiving a game?"

So, basically, you support leeching. Nice job. +rep

Again. Forcing people to say thank you defeats the purpose. If you leave people the choice, every thank you you get is given with at least some measure of sincerity. If you force people, every thank you is insincere. It's no longer something they do because they are grateful but something you make them do. You might as well just have an automatic script that says thank you.

I'd rather have 10 sincere thank-yous than 100 forced ones.

Completely beside the point. If someone is enough of an ungrateful dick to not be bothered to thank someone for a free game, it's perfectly reasonable to blacklist them for being one.

Nothing to disagree on. If I want to blacklist you because I don't like the look on your face, I can. The reasons are at the sole discretion of the person composing the list and no one else.

I'm not disagreeing with your right to block people from private giveaways for any reason you want. I'm just disagreeing that "not saying thank you" is a good reason to block someone.

I can't and don't want to dictate what others can and can't do with their private giveaways, that's why I suggested we'd agree to disagree. I'm just saying that, for me, forcing people to say thank you (and let's face it, blocking someone for not doing something is basically the same as forcing them to do it, just less direct) is worse than risking someone not saying thanks. I don't think it's reasonable, but I never implied that you aren't allowed to do it.

I see. I wouldn't characterize it as forcing someone's behavior, though. I'd view it more as denying someone a privilege as a consequence for behavior that was viewed as negative in some way, perhaps morally objectionable to some degree in a case like this. That said, you're entitled to your opinion, and I don't expect either of us to sway the other, so agreeing to disagree on the matter is perfectly fine.

Who said anything about making it mandatory? If you really don't feel like thanking a person you just got a free game from it's your poor choice... Still makes you a person I wouldn't want to give more games too!

  2. I'm not going to call-out anyone in public, I'm not a politician (but in private... :P).

  3. Sir, chapter "Chat Room, Forum, and Site Etiquette": "Always thank submitters. Thanking is not required to enter a giveaway.". Personally, I would try to make that motherfu... uhm, "careless mean person" banned on that. Actually, I didn't try to check how this rule works - in the past all people who didn't thank me turned out to just grab the game and sell it, so they're banned on different basis.

No, no and yes. Blacklists are only required IMO if you give away games in poorly maintained groups otherwise any assholes/leechers/disruptions will get kicked/banned in short order.

I can only kick members from my own group and if they are blacklisted they aren't in the group anymore :p
