So in an effort to make folks' dreams come true, I'm planning on starting a new giveaway series called "Convince me you'll play...". The point being - only people who can convince me they'll play the game are going to temporarily end up in my whitelist for a whitelist giveaway (excluding 5-6 permawhitelisted friends of mine).
I will judge the entries (and I'm not that harsh), taking into account things like past wins/play ratio, how long you've had the game on the wishlist, were you involved in discussions about the game, etc (I've done this with some games and it seems to have worked out nicely so far).

P.S.: Folks who manage to convince me but leave the game unplayed without a legitimate reason (and no, my pc can't run yet, I'll play it in 5 years, is not a legitimate reason) are going to end up blacklisted.

Happy convincing.

P.S.: woops almost forgot, currently running "Convince me" is Valiant Hearts, next up - Ori and the blind forest
P.P.S: just to clear up the confusion - I'll make another thread for Ori when Valiant Hearts is over.

That game has been on my wishlist since April, and its on my top 10 wishlist games. The art and gameplay look stunning and the reviews are what it got me wanting it so much. I tried to watch some gameplays, but i only watched small bits because i dont wanna spoil the story for me. I've heard that it has some great puzzles and has some 'the feelings, man' moments, which i really wanna get into!
Thanks for both opportunities since you are running two of them ʕ ͡° ͜ᴥ ͡°ʔ

Valiant Hearts, I never got to complete it while it was on xbox 360, It was fun while it lasted but my xbox 360 ended up not working :(

I'd like to play it again and actually be able to beat it. AND this will be one of the games I probably will be able to play (well I hope). I have a windows xp so I'd feel bad if the game didn't actually run, but I still want to give it a try. Also, I know you said the whole, my pc can't run it yet doesn't count as an excuse, but I am going to be building an actual gaming computer early next year, so if it doesn't work on this (which i'd have no idea why, it looks easy to run), at least I can play it early next year along with all of those other games I can't touch. If I get invited or not thanks anyways (for reading).

I'll be honest, i wouldn't play this game straight away. It looks awesome, its a nice change to games i usually play (CS:GO, LoL) and seems like an amazing single-player experience. I kinda like such style of art, and the lucky winner should be very happy about it. 95% rating on Steam is surely deserved, after seeing some videos about it.

I have it whitelisted for a while already (13 June), but it can wait. There should be people more urging to play this :)

But let me know, when u make one for Ori and the Blind Forest - the most feels trailer i seen, gave me moar feels than the one for the Valiant Hearts. I would play it right away, i promise - and i keep my promises.

Awesome concept, i dig it very much. I'd love to play Valiant hearts, i enjoy story-rich games (brothers:a tale of two sons, bastion, to the moon) and this one seems like it. Awesome music is also always welcome.

I actually played the Valiant Hearts right after I won it here on SG, really awesome game, I think I'll never forget it. So many times I tried to win Ori and no luck so far.

Nowdays I only enter for giveaways of games I plan to play, but TBS' and games with local co-op are the highest priorities from my library. If this makes you happy however, I could put it in a high position in my queue in case I'd win it. I also have the game in my wishlist since 14june.

for the most part I tend to enter everything I have a decent chance at winning unless the creator tells me to play it. Just so happens that I pick the games i loved myself for these giveaways and would appreciate if they were played

I already entered your other Valiant Hearts giveaway and I actually almost commented that it's been on my wishlist for a while now but then I decided not to because I didn't wanna spam you with irrelevant comments. Anyway, a friend of mine played it already and from what she told me, it does actually sound like an interesting game, so I would love to check it out!

As for Ori - this game just looks so beautiful! I will definitely get it at some point, right now I'm just waiting for a bigger discount on it since I missed the price glitch when it happened.

I want to have Valiant Hearts because the story really attracts me. Even it is a 2D game, from what I read/saw on video it is an amazing title with an very interesting soundtrack. I really like the art style and therefore I want to complete this masterpiece.

Hopefully you choose me, since this is the first puzzle/2d game that gets my attention over other games. And since it isn't too big in size on my SSD drive I can install this on my laptop, unlike GTA 5 which is 60GB..

Thanks for the chance mate!

I think this is an interesting approach to trying to filter out people that genuinely want the game.
There are some people that are gifted in the art of speech, and are very convincing - even if they may not want the game as much as another entrant, they sound like they want it more.
There are people that genuinely want to play the game, but can't talk to save their life.
Are there are people that will add everything to their wishlist just cause it "looks like something they'd play", but they have little to no idea of what the game is actually about because they haven't dug into it yet.

In the end, there's no perfect solution - but it does work to filter out the obvious I suppose. :)
Just my thoughts, thank you for always offering up such great games, Assassin. :)

I did something similar a few years ago (thread), I checked playtime in similar games to the game i was giving away. still not perfect because not everyone has their games on Steam exclusively (especially older titles). In the end I don't think people who wrote more elaborately or more verbosely had much of an advantage over those who didn't, with the way things turned out.

That must have taken a ton of work. Thank you for that.
Your results are pretty interesting too.
I think a bit of personality will come into play as well.
Some people will spend the effort to look up the game and view the trailer just so they can come up with a "good entry".
And there are others that know they aren't gifted in speech and choose not to go for it, even though I am 100% certain they will have more fun with someone who "convinced me". Though, now that I think about it, that pretty much applies to everything in life. :P
In the end, I can't really tell the difference between the two.
I guess that's what whitelists are for. :)
But, like you said - no perfect system.
Anyways, don't mind me. I'm rambling.

Edit: Went and checked out your thread / giveaway. That's some pretty solid work. I actually really like what you did for it, couldn't find anything wrong with your system, to be frank.

I was pretty happy with the way it turned out (other than I didn't have as many copies of the game as I wish I did), it took a lot of time to go through everything so I can see that being a deterrent to some people, but I knew that it would be so going in. fortunately I think it worked really well for Civ V since it's MORE of a niche genre than Valiant Hearts/Ori, I think it's harder to gather whether someone might like these games by looking what they have played (and my thread also pre-dated steam trading cards so there wasn't all types of wonky playtimes due to idlemaster/idling)

I have a custom-built gaming rig that will be turned into a Steam machine this holiday season (the Steam controller is already pre-ordered). This will be connected to my living room entertainment center so I can play games on the big screen TV.

Valiant Hearts is exactly the kind of game that would end up on my list of the first bunch I'd play on the SM system because they all a) will run on Linux, b) are story-oriented, and c) have highly positive reviews.

A few other games on my SM short list that I already own are: Bioshock Infinite (will be the first), Transistor, and This War of Mine.

I already own and played both games, and they are fantastic! Nice idea starting "Convince me you'll play" thread, this way you can be totally sure that the winner will be sincerely happy and the game won't go to undeserving hands :)

While I am interested in Valiant Hearts, there are others here who likely want it more. Ori on the other hand is exactly the type of game I have focused on winning on SteamGifts. I have been looking to find a game that has a visual style that appeals to my girlfriend so that we can enjoy a game together. She is not a gamer but occasionally gets drawn into the visual style of games enough to swap out our TV downtime for gaming. Ori fits the bill perfectly. You cannot beat getting additional time to play a fantastic game while making your girlfriend happy.

I think I'm not that much interested in Valiant Hearts in comparison to other people here :)
But Ori and the blind forest... It's on my wishlist. Great game I'm definitely going to play when I have it. What else should I say? I like platformers, played a lot of them (starting from NES games like Mario Bros., Contra, Megaman, etc). I like great soundtracks (see Braid, Bastion, Transistor) in games which this game looks to have. Some say that the game is difficult at some places - another plus for me :D: (for example, completed The Binding of Isaac for 100%) And finally, this game is just a piece of art :3
P.S. Thank you for the nice initiative :)
