Hey Guys,

at the moment im playing Bioshock 2 (finished Bioshock yesterday) and now im searching for some new Steampunk games. I played Dishonored, which was great and the style of BioShock Infinite look super great. I searched on google, but i didnt found much information about Steampunk PC games. Anyone know some games?

I'm looking for some Cyberpunk games, too. I loved Deus Ex: Human Revolution and search for a game, that has a similar look(found Hard Reset, but didnt seem to be that good and has no real story).

May someone can help me. And please don't blame me for my english.

Greetings

It was $5 on Amazon not too long ago. I'm sure you'll find it again for $5 in the near future. It's on my to buy list too. I heard it's a great game, especially co=op and it's made by Starbreeze and that's always a plus.

I heard bad things, pretty much lacking in the single player aspect from what I heard.

Still I guess cant to bad if he/she can get it for 5 bucks of Amazon sometime in the future.

Arcanum is a nice old-school steampunk rpg in the vein of the Baldur's Gate series. $3 now on gog.com

If you liked Deus Ex:HR, check out the first Deus Ex, if dated graphics don't put you off. It's a classic and perhaps the best game of all time (for me at least).
You could also try System Shock 2, it has a similar feel (and age heh) and insane atmosphere. Still one of the scariest games ever.

+1 for System Shock 2. You will have to "borrow" it from somewhere though, it's sadly entangled in a legal mess so it's quite difficult to find it to buy anywhere, if not impossible.

You could also try Thief, even though it's not strictly Steampunk.

If you want to try out DeusEx, give a look on http://www.moddb.com/mods/new-vision/news/deus-ex-new-vision-version-15 for a visual upgrade.

Are you completely sure about that? I wouldn't mind to see a link for that if it's true, as my understanding is that it is not free at all and quite hard to get, legally.

Sadly +1, EA renewed copyright protection in '06, but seems reluctant to give anyone a license to distribute (or distribute it themselves). Personally, I think EA's afraid to give their dev houses any sense of power lately. "Our previous games STILL sell? Maybe we don't need EA after all..."

I've read on some forums, that although EA did renew the copyright protection, they do not have the full rights on System Shock. They even dropped the name rights. That's probably what's holding them back from creating some franchise exploitation as is Syndicate.

System Shock 1 is abandonware and some fans created a portable version of it. System Shock 2 is not abandonware.

well do i need to play system shock 1 to play system shock 2? or is it an total different story?

The story is different, but it has several references to System Shock 1. Since you are playing different characters in both games, you will be introduced to things you might have missed during the game.
Still I recommend playing part 1.

I second Arcanum. Though, be sure to put the game into turn by turn mode instead of real time. Deus Ex is also good. Love the older games, despite dated graphics. Haha.

E.Y.E.: Divine Cybermancy comes to mind aside from the first Deus Ex.

Resonance of Fate is nice, but not on PC I think (have it on Xbox360).

Agreed, one of the best RPGs on 360 and also one of very few games where I actually cared about dressing up my characters (and no silly DLC required to do so :)

Framerate and control response is better on PS3, but +1 in general.

Wasteland 2 is neither steampunk nor cyberpunk though, it's post apocalyptic. But nice choice and i'm waiting for WL2 too and i hope it doesn't dissappoint.

Old Syndicate and Syndicate Wars (no shooters, but awesome)

System Shock 1 and 2 (System Shock 2 is imo still one of the best games out there)

E.Y.E, bit complicated and not always good executed, but still fun

Shadowrun, although I have the say the game is really really bad. The new one that is in development will probably be very good though.

Hard Reset (didnt try it though)

American McGee's Alice has Steampunk elements

Fallout 3 (has a lot of "punk" elements from different "punk" genres)

Steel Empire (pretty damn old)

Hacking games such as Uplink and Dark Signs create a pretty good cyberpunk atmosphere, though both are primarily text based.

Well I recommend Shadowrun for SNES and Genesis, and check for Shadowrun Returns. I also like the original Deus Ex.

There was this not very good, but I kind of enjoyed it hack n slash game a while back.. Silverfall I believe. Had some steampunk elements. Like steampunk dragons and what not, including weaponry and armor.

Its only 2.50 right now and has been compared to Deus Ex.

Well you seem to be set on story based shooters, but if you like puzzle platformers, try Vessel (steampunk).

Binary Domain is a tps, story isn't anything super phenomenal, but it has a real cool cyberpunk style world.

Ultima Worlds of Adventure 2 Martian Dreams is a fun albeit old (as in it came out 20 years ago) steampunk RPG. It's free on GOG so you can just give it a go.
