Love TES and looking for something new.
Any good ones out there? Thanks!

Edit: Should have mentioned! Not really into the whole Diablo kind of games. Thanks for the suggestions though, keep 'em coming!

I think Lichdom looks like the winner, thanks user R007K17!

Look up Arx Fatalis. The magic system is a little different than what you would be used to, but its pretty fun, and only $5 at the base price.

This, the best game of Arkane Studios. I thought Dark Messiah and Dishonored were gonna be a new Arx Fatalis but I got disappointed both times.

Did you play the Ultimate Underworld games? Arx Fatalis was originally going to be the next game.

I own both on floppy disks myself, so can't play my copies, but still pretty awesome to have the extras, even some metal 'runes'.

No floppy drive? You could run it through dosbox then likely. Otherwise, GOG has sales on them.

No floppy drive, of course. And not really willing to buy them on GOG. I'm in no rush, because my library is huge even without the few floppy disk games I own (got a few others like Syndicate and the D&D games of the time).

Yes I played Ultima Underworld 1 and 2 back in the day. Arx Fatalis was heavily influenced indeed.

But make sure you choose the right class and skills! Once you start meeting those assassins, it gets pretty difficult with the wrong skillset.

Keep it to that one. Spare yourself the misery of playing Dragon Age II.

DD came out last year, so it's a little late for that. But yeah, friggin great game. I didn't like as much as i did DA:O, but certainly my favorite PS3 game... Along with Dark Souls.

Area recycling, bad story, bad gameplay, area recycling. Did I mention area recycling?

Edit: I'm talking about DA2, not Dragons Dogma.

Bad story? If there is one reason to play DA2, it is its story and characters. Mark of the Assassin DLC is especially brilliant in that regard. Combat gameplay however is terrible.

Yeah, the story wasn't half bad. The combat sucked when compared to Origins... Well, most stuff in DA2 sucked when compared to Origins...

LOOK OUT HARPIES

GOD DAMNIT SHUT UP ALREADY, I KNOW.

That's my experience of Dragon's Dogma before I put that down, couldn't deal with it.

I own both on 360. Never played much of the second, since I lost my save data for the first during a RRoD, but I quite enjoyed the portion of the game that I played.

Exactly, You didn't play much of it. Trust me you would quickly get sick of walking into the same map for a cave/house/storage/whatever for the 10th time.

By 'not much', I mean only a couple of hours. I actually liked the combat more than the first game (which I forced myself to play during a week when my internet was down).

This may be a stretch but the Bioshock games. Not technically "magic" but you get the first person feel while using powers. Also Bioshock 1 is classified as an RPG on steam

  1. Gothic I
  2. Gothic II
  3. Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines
  4. Arcanum (should be nr. 1, but is not first person so I put it on 4th)
  5. Wizardry series, ex. XIII

Magicka. All magic, all the time! Oh, wait, but it's sorta Diablo style...

How about Amalur, which is like TES but more colorful and a bit less serious... also (IMHO) better combat.

I've always been curious about the game based on The Wheel of Time, since playing the demo years back, but never did pick it up. Seemed to have some interesting magic in it though from the demo.

Plenty of great RPGs out there but most tend to be 3rd person. Just look through the steam site of rpg games to find the better ones, might find one you like that's not 1st person perspective.

Two Worlds 1 & 2, Dark Messiah, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, Knights of the Old Republic 1 & 2 (the Force counts as magic, right?), Dragon Age,

Two Worlds has one of the coolest magic systems I have seen in a game. You can create your own spells and make them as powerful as you want or have different effects. I love that game!
