TL;DR They use bad reviews as threat to get free steam keys.

Stuff like that has always been done. on personal level I never trust any sort of reviews of well.. anything.
They're either paid, sponsored or do them for living otherwise so there's always bias. Want to see what something really is? Check out its specs, look couple gameplay videos. Try it yourself. But for derps sake, don't trust so called "reviews".

Hell, I even remember some cases where free review keys some parties have gotten have been SOLD online instantly. So yeah. :3

This is why user reviews exist. If you take off the extremists and the obvious stupid little trolling kiddies, they can show a quite accurate portrait without spending time to actually play the game or watch longer Lets plays or Long plays.

I mostly trust pros and cons reviews, I find about 3-4 with many different opinions and I look at them and I check if what they have in common is actually true. It's pretty easy for some with a very outstanding trait, like the modding community on Skyrim, the nuking Gandhi in Civ 5 and the physics in Bad Rats.

Except for Portal 2, that game's negative reviews are:

  • wanted to be be the 1%

  • the game is too hard

  • the story is better in the first game

So, yeah, Portal 2 is objectively perfect.

Portal 2, like Portal, was a pretty bad game. Tries too hard to be funny, has no interesting story and the gameplay is boring. I love Half-Life 2 though.

Without trying to be funny, the Single Player Portal Story would be just like playing a custom workshop puzzle, a linear story where you feel controlled. Well, it has a linear story where you basically have no choices, but at least you're carrying a potato.
The game has a great idea and I doubt it could have been implemented better. Imagine helping Glados and not Wheatly, you would just get a laser in your head and THE END. Or you get some cake, which we all know is a lie. Or worse, you continue testing until you're bored. This is why they added the Workshop to the game, I guess.

I actually prefer linear games. Mostly because I want them to be over soon. Almost all games are too long for me, and I have a compulsive need to finish everything in a game. I believe the biggest problem I have with the Portal games is that my personal humor is different and better.

Well, since there are constant jokes all the time, it's not made so you'll laugh at every joke. I found myself laughing my arse off because of some random joke, Mafia II was really good at that, so is DA: O.
On that note, try Mafia 2 out, I think it took me about 8 hours for the story, and since the series started more as a driving game, I mostly enjoyed driving from one side of the city to the other and just enjoying the '50s (and '60s) music. Also, the game has a nice twist in the middle which changes the atmosphere, it's freaking epic.

I played Mafia 1 a long time ago, was pretty good. But haven't gotten started on the second one, thanks for the suggestion.

I played Mafia 1 when I was a kid, played at my cousin. But I tried it out after Mafia II, the controls felt horrible.
The second one is more of a shooter than it is a driving game, but it is great at both.

That is your personal opinion and I respect it, but don't declare it like it's a universal fact. Obviously a game that gets such universal praise cannot be a "bad game". You may not like it, but that does not make it a bad game.

Yeah, I acknowledge this. I generally don't like the term "overrated" but that's what I would use in this case.

Anyone or any organization that gets paid to write reviews should not have their reviews taken into consideration, as the reviews are biased according to the sum of money received. Steam reviews are what I use as reference, as they reflect exactly the consumer's opinion, and nobody gains anything for writing positive or negative Steam reviews.

Lately I've started to count steam reviews in same category as amazon ones where it's well known that there are companies which sell reviews in bulk amounts as rating is important. Same applies to steam too. As this case points out in different way

Here is my statement:
http://steamcommunity.com/groups/Original_Traders_Group#announcements/detail/214265671828010875

i uploaded the whole email and all emails to reddit + steam and as you can see i wrote 1-3 minutes after my bad email to them that i will not more work with them in the future. It would be not very logical if i would be angry with someone, and write that will not more work with him and think that i get keys for it. They just did not uplaoded all mails. They also did not uplaod the whole reason just a bad statement after a keyrequest. But it's not the whole situation.

I suggest you to read the whole thread. <<< ;) You will find screenshots from all emails, and you will also find out that we did not changed any review, curation or something else. He just uploaded a small part of his sight, because he was angry about me because icontacted their director and i told them that i will give them a negative review. ;) But I also did not changed my positive review to negative because i never had a positive review for the game because i do not even own it! I t was just a stupid lie and not to get steamkeys. As you can seei told them not to work with them anymore. I would not write this if i think i would get free keys. This would not make sense because it's not logical.

I was angry because they did not answered me on multiple! Emails. And yo ucan find all this as screenshots not just a small screenshot with 1/6 of the whole situation. . . and he was angry so he try to calling us out (not very professionell from us both)

Like always these things will blow over. But of course it's not like people will forget this any time soon.

Reddit has a whole section: https://www.reddit.com/r/drama dedicated to it.

But anyway: http://www.steamgifts.com/discussion/ZMFKN/are-you-part-of-the-original-traders-groupnetwork-you-should-see-this-if-you-havent-already this seems to be a double post.

Thanks, I never noticed it. It works for the main store page, but it has no effect on a game page (so I kept ABP filter for that).

The game page also has such a button.

Permalink

I just checked that again, and here's the catch: the customize button of a game page shows only options that are relevant to this game. When I looked at that this morning after seeing your post, I was probably on a game page that had no curation, that's why the option wasn't listed.
Now I tried again and I can confirm that when disabled on a given game page, it's also disabled for every game. Thanks one more time !

Thats why i like some specific youtube-"curators/reviewsers".
They take the time to show you how and why they judge the game. And you can then allow yourself to be influenced by it or not.
i dont want to promote it, but i guess everyone knows wtf is..?
i think he does a good job with exactly that even tough there are some reviewbiases.. but they will always happen, and at least he got the guts to tell it in his reviews!

I think I got an invitation for one of the groups. Although none of my reviews apart from four or five are near the main page of the associated games (and those are usually barely-known hidden object games…) and tend to hover around 2 votes, I'm still glad that they are not tainted with this fiasco because I listened to my gut that the whole thing seems fishy.

Hahahaha, wow, how pathetic. The only curators i "support" are youtubers i actually watch and have similar tastes to when it comes to gaming. Giving too much power to randoms like this is always a bad thing and will very likely lead to trying to exploit said power for free stuff.

ok, something I'm not getting here. It's obvious that he's trying to Solicit some free games there, but did the Dev Even send him a "Thank you, but, go F#@% yourself" or did he just Ignore him?

It seems from what they are Saying on the Twitter, that he just Ignored Him, but for him to suddenly go from
"You scratch my back, I scratch your back" and then be all "You Asked for it, all bad reviews!!" it seems like the Dev might've said something to make him Angry.

If that is so, where is that Message?

Permalink

Two different devs ignored him and he reacted the same hostile way with both of them.
Edit: In the devs defense game devs get hit up for Steam keys constantly, so at some point you just stop responding to requests except from magazines and known personalities.

oh! I'm not defending him. I just wondered how it played out. Just spontaneously sending a Reply that Threatens is kinda Crazy. Maybe he got drunk or something. Hopefully at least, because any other explaination would indicate he had a Psychotic episode. That's either caused by a brain tumor, or just plain being Crazy.

Sounds more like narcissism..he brags about being the leader of the largest curator group and believes he deserves the response from anybody he contacts. Then when he gets called on his behavior he doesn't believe he did anything wrong. Well he recognized he was rude but it ended there. It does suck to be ignored and at least he was patient to wait a month before flipping out after several email attempts.
