I usually post my weekly squeeee thread at 9 but I'll be at dinner around then, so I'll post this now.
So excited. Half way through the first book. I'm a big fan of Bronn So far, so I'm excited to see how his story progresses. Anyone else excited? /linaface

edit: Now that the episode's over, it is safe to reveal the "Tournament of Gifts," that was concealed above.

Until now I've always thought of you as a person with taste. Game of Thrones? Really? The series has no niveau whatsoever! It is cliches over cliches. You have the good guys, the bad guys. All black and white. And it is not even hard to predict the incredible "surprising" twists that are still to come.

Of course the bad guys first do something mean ("The things I do for love" - seriously who writes such cheesy bullshit?!) to the fairytale-like royal family, which has ruled in their land for thousands of years, just to show that they indeed are the bad ones. Then the hero, aka Sean Bean, can kick some ass and bring us the Hollywoodesque happy ending we all need so strongly.

I really do not know why one would watch more than one episode of this crap!

PS: What is up with the wannabe funny and witty imp? He clearly is the worst part of a horrible show!

To be able to say that Game of Thrones is all black and white i assume you've seen only some of the episodes of the TV Show.
I just have finished the first book and, some characters excepted everyone is grey.
The more you discover them, the most difficult it is to get them enclosed in a stereotype.

PS : sorry for the english, i haven't spoke it for years.

I haven't seen the show yet. But your reply let me think it's Tyrion.

It's very much Tyrion, though he does bear a striking resemblance to Samwise Gamgee.

Take a couple of steps back from your screen, wipe all knowledge of the GoT TV series from your mind and just take glancing looks at it. It's very Sam.

I have a different Tyrion avatar lying around on my pc somewhere. That one doesn't look like Sam!

Pics or it didn't happen. But I'm kind of used to this avatar. I'll be confused if you change it.

Honestly, never seen GoT anything... It's Samwise.

Take a couple steps back from my screen and tell you what it looks like? Looks like Barack Obama, or maybe a watermelon, and it could also possibly be a cactus!

Although I am being mostly facetious! I do see how it looks more like Sam than a lot of avatars, but the hair is rather off and Sam looks much more boyish than Tyrion or however you spell his name.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Return of the King's Sam is pretty grown up, enough to look like Tyrion in that pic. At least to me, anyway.

Also, I think you should get your eyes checked. That's clearly now Obama. Obama has black hair.

Tyrion,Sam,Obama

Two of them look slightly alike and that's mainly because of the hair. I have to admit my avatar is quite the hair focused shot, though :>

Also Jade you had to bring this up again, hadn't you?

Yes, Tyrion looks like Sam, just like this totally looks like a giveaway of Skyrim.

I'd change the picture of Tyrion. Could possibly count as a spoiler by people who know that sigil on his chest. Edit: Ta!

And absolutely I had to bring it up!

You should really watch the show! It's close to the books, it really catches the atmosphere and the casting is excellent (mostly). I get goose bumps everytime I hear this

This sounds like a good way to do it. I really hope they keep the song in the show. Reading about it in this one scene was just amazing.

I'm on the third book so far. (I won't spoil).
Dearly love both the book and the show. Didn't expect the differences in the show to be so good. They made some good choices in the first season, when trying to fit it all. Season 2 is coming along nicely. Can't wait to see what happens next.

Squee indeed. Squee indeed...

Trust me. Read the books the moment you can get your hands on them. The characters you hate, you'll almost certainly find yourself loving by the time you've finished A Storm of Swords.

Do you like the book (AFFC)so far? A lot of people take their time with this book, because they find it boring, which is pretty understandable, considering the end of SoS, the change of pace and the split of POV characters.

1 decade ago

Comment has been collapsed.

I'm a little baffled by why he's using chapter "titles" like "The Captain of Guards" and "The Prophet" instead of their proper names, but so far I'm still absolutely loving the book.

Dance is really slow for a while, but stick with it, the payoff is worth it.

It is just sad that George R. R. Martin needs around 5 years time to write a new book... I hope he will live long enough to finish it xD

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

The last two were not originally planed, so he struggled quite some time with them. Actually until the third book GRRM needed "only" two years for the new book. Let's all hope that his struggle is now over and that HBO puts him under pressure to finish the next two books in maximum two years.

Still keeping in mind that the first book was released in 1996: Don't die on us, Martin!

Jade is right. Without prior knowledge, the amount of characters thrown at you and all of their respective relationships and statuses can be overwhelming. Nevertheless, just watching the show will still be fine once you figure things out. If you're a fan of fantasy, though, do yourself the service of picking up the books - they're fantastic.
