So if i get a CD Key from a CD Key site as a sponsor, are we allowed to post them, with a link and discount codes etc?
I can't see anything in the rules about this..

A "CD Key site"?

CD Keys are commonly given away on Steamgifts, but considering that there are security exploits linked to using them, AND you are not the original owner of your CD Key, expect lots of people to be suspicious of any giveaway you might make.

A 'CD Key site' atm, as i won't name them until i have spoken to them and they agree to do it.
I would be linking to them and everyone can feel free to ask them if it is legit.
And i don't know what you mean by 'security exploits'? A cdkey is a cdkey right?

No, this could possibly get the winner banned. Valve promises the ability to activate cd keys as gifts at some point, so I would wait until then.

But if it's a retail key, how could someone get banned?

If the "rightful owner" of the cd key sends them a scan, they could get the person with that cd key activated banned. I really doubt it happens so much as to completetly ban them, I mean, what could someone game from getting a random person banned?

And how would steam know who the 'rightful' owner is if the person who has the game on their account can also provide steam with a picture of the cd-key..
BUT of course i wouldn't want to cause anyone hassles like that...

They can know , some of the game company's actually ask steam to keep tabs on who activates their games, once they find it suspicious your account will be diabled till you can prove that its your game

Stop being a bunch of hypocrites guys. Nothing will happen. They are legit keys and the CD key site will not send a complaint to Valve. Getting banned for this almost never happens. Besides if you got the key as a gift you are free of harm.

You cannot receive CD-keys as a gift in the current Steam system. You simply get mailed them and enter them in manually. None of the gift protection stuff applies to CD-keys at the moment.

Keys are generally discouraged but are not banned. I would say stop pussyfooting around and name the site already though, people are questioning you because of how vague you're being. Really just depends on what site you're talking about.

Risk of CD key: people with a picture of the cd key can claim the account

-when you bought a steam account

-when the cd keys the shops sells are stolen (prevented by buying from legit cd key shops)

How to prevent: get a scan from the cd key when you buy from cd key shop (not perfect protection but at least something)

A question like this you probably would have been better off e-mailing inbox@steamgifts.com and asking cg directly for a yes or no.

mate remove that site and dont giveaway games from their site , they are an illegal key dealers(not authorized by valve) , if you want you can pm any of the staff on steam forums and see for yourself, you are putting others at a risk here
