hey everyone, i recently started having a weird problem with steam over the last week. Ill click on a link and ill go to a different "version" i guess? of steam. Anyone else having these problems? (web browser only so far) OR know what these different versions are for?

store.akamai.steampowered.com
store.akamai.steampowered.com/app/242110/?snr=1_7_7_230_150_5

store.steamgames.com
store.steamgames.com/app/93200/?snr=1_7_7_230_150_6

NOTE: I would be on the normal version of steam store.steampowered.com and would search for a game, click on the store link for it and sometimes be redirected to these pages

NOTE 2: im going to bed, so i wont be commenting for awhile, night :D

If you're serious though, that is weird. They seem to be legit though. I'm logged in on store.steampowered.com, and hitting the login button on both of those sites just logged me in immediately without asking for any of my information.

It's the same thing. Just a different domain name. Both store.steampowered.com and store.steamgames.com lead to the same machine, which is 208.64.202.69.

You have a browser redirect/hijacker

the first two links you posted are legit

the second two are phishing links, I'd recommend removing them from your post

Go run malwarebytes or something, and while you're at it get this so you know not to enter your login info

EDIT: looks like the page redirects to steamcommunity, ignore this post

It doesn't ask for your login information. If you're logged in on store.steampowered.com, it just logs you in.

I doubt there redirects/hijackers, cause if i hit login i get redirected to steam automatically, and there not always there on the right areas. also i havent been anywhere different and I run malwarebytes every 5 days

Akamai seems to be a cloud service, so maybe steam wants faster connection for some of their users?

Quote from Wikipedia: "As of 2009, secure connections (designed to highlight hidden intermediaries) posed a problem to Akamai, and attempts to connect to a popular website over HTTPS might reveal the Akamai backend." The website store.akamai.steampowered.com is Akamai backend of Steam, I guessed.

Block those sites already, those are Phising sites, they can hack your account. Be Sure to Scan your PC, Place the site mentioned on block list and Remember to Change All your Passwords.

  • I've had the first 2 links before and did some research as well as read comments on some other forum thread they seem to be legit also it doesn't ask for my login info. Never had the last 2 though so can't say for those.

I got the steamgames.com one today when I clicked a link in real steam store. It showed me as not logged in suddenly so I caught it fortunately rather than just logging in again.

I'm logged in on store.steampowered.com and steamcommunity.com, but I am NOT logged in on these sites.

I've seen the links before and they all seem to be registered to "Valve Corporation", so steam is up to something probably.

I guess props to you for being suitably paranoid, but steamgames.com is owned by Valve and hosts the super secret Steamworks developer hub for example.

The domains are safe, but it's still weird. Could be some sort of ill-advised A/B test or a fuckup on their end.

This is only one of many domains, registered by the Valve Corporation.

I've compiled a small list of domains, that make use of these Valve name servers:

NS1.VALVESOFTWARE.COM
NS2.VALVESOFTWARE.COM
NS3.VALVESOFTWARE.COM

Pastebin

Relevant Steam domains, that are legit but might look like scam:

steamgames.com
steamgames.net
steammoves.com
steampowered.us
steampoweredgames.com
steampoweredgames.net
steampoweredgames.org
steamserver.net
steamstatic.com
steamusers.com

My personal favorite: valvesucks.com
