Hello SG! I was on the market trying to get one item at lower usually price, sometimes some people sell items for 0.03€ when the usually cost is 0.20€ (for example). And i was pressing F5 like crazy to try get one of this, of course can't get any. I just saw lot of them, but when i click on them they are already sold.

I investigated a little, want to know how this people get the items so fast, and i discovered some Chrome extension. The chrome extension is "SteamTradeHelper v2", you make a list with your items and set the price you want to buy it, if someone put this item at that price that "bot" will automaticlly buy it. I have my doubts about this.

  • You think this thing is legit?
  • Is there any way to get banned by using this?
  • Anyone here used it?

Of course i know your answer, "Is not legit, don't trust them" but i'm courios and want know lot of things and opinions.
Soooo... Let's the disscussion begin.

Isn't ther an option for this already? I mean you can set a buying price in the market and as soon as a card is available you will buy it. At least when it's your turn in the queue.
I use Steam Inventory Helper for everything else and this one is totally legit and perfect for trading.

Apparently it isn't now that I know how weapon skins on the market work. I can check it out real quick tho.

No, apparently it doesn't, but I know of people using scripts for that. Maybe someone will step forth and tell you about it.

I saw reddit post with lot of opinions in there, some opeople say it's illigal because at T&C on Steam you agree don't use any kind of bot. Other people say they are using it, dunno what to do :/

What Steam's T&C are trying to prevent is people artificially increasing prices by buying the whole stock and reselling it for more.
It's up to you.

the thing is that while it may be against TOS it doesn't necessary mean you will get banned for doing it right away. They may write that you may not use third party extensions for something, but still they need a way to detect it. If they do so in some closer or more distant future then you may get banned even months after you started using it. It's the same what happens to online games. "Hey! I'm using this bot for this particular MMO and it's perfectly safe! I've been using it for months without a ban." Then bam - one day comes security upgrade and 2 weeks later we have few thousands accounts banned.

TL;DR Is it safe to use now? If there are no reportds of bans then probably yes.
Will I get banned for it in a future? You may be you may be not. But if you are you will have only yourself to blame.

Oh also - if you are going to use it I'd also don't do it on your main account. set up alt, buy 5$ games from store and if you get banned there is a chance your main will remain untouched. But only a chance - because they may also trace trades from your alt to your main and ban it as well ;)

Steam Inventory Helper is not the same as SteamTradeHelper ;) Basically - you cannot use Inventory helper to exploit or take any form of advantage over a market. It just sells/manages stuff for you. TradeHelper is used for heavy refreshing of multiple trades on the market waiting for someone to make an error while posting and sniping a cheap offer.

the thing is that people who do this don't do so for few cents savings but rather for a good profit ;) you set up "lookout" for all costy CS:GO skins for example trying to buy them for example for 1.30EUR instead of 130EUR because someone made a mistake while writing a price down ;) Using a bot you will usually be able to buy it out before he realizes his mistake or even if he did realize it before his cancelation can be proceeded.

I know nothing about this particular extension but I would be weary. I added a steamgifts extension that was recommended here on the forums, and it gave me a rootkit. Chrome extension can be a serious security hole.
