The cat is getting older and so are we. For those who have been here longer: How have things changed in how you use the site? Are you visiting less than before? Are you perhaps participating more in discussions? What about giveaways? Has it changed how you and what kind of giveaways you create? If you have went through changes, what have been the causes for them?

Join the elder corner and share your thoughts. But remember to relax from time to time.

Who are you?

View Results
I am but a dream of a memory. Faded and gone.
I am like a rocket. Accelerating and rising.
I am a running river. Always in place but ever changing.
I am echo from the past. Bouncing back and forth.
I am 13 and what is this?
I simply am.

Although I have celebrated 7 years here on SG not so long ago, I have been active only for the past three years... so I think I am not one of the elders. ;)
To drop my few cents, I am less active then when I got here again, just lurking around. I still check SG regularly and I enjoy events made by the community. Don't do much of giveaways as I mostly share leftovers of bundles I buy for myself. I focus to play my wins though as I have won nice games here! <3

What caused the change three years ago? Sharing leftovers is a nice way to make giveaways. Would have recommended PA for you but I see you are already a member. :p

Well, one day I got an email from SG that I have 500 points to spent on giveaways. My first thought was "what the hell is that? Scam?!". XD I still don't remember how did I came upon this page and even logged in? ;) I was curious though so I checked it up and decided that it looked legit, that time I was also thinking about getting my first Humble bundle, but I wasn't sure what to do with the games I wasn't interested in... so here I am! Got captured. :)

Haha, yeah, I did few giveaways for them. I also try to add some wagons to the big train or during Christmas. Depends on the games I have left though, not so much lately as I don't buy so many bundles any longer.

It is bit hard to stay a float when it keeps raining games these days, isn't? :D I still recall when the first bundles were introduced. The eager waiting what goodies would be in the next one. Unfortunately, there was expected inflation but it would have been hard to keep the momentum rolling for so many years.

What was the best year for SG?

You know what, I find that very hard to tell. First years felt a little more "tight", you felt like you "knew" almost all the users, there were less bots... but since I am not that socially engaged, I guess it does not bother me that we now have fewer threads (and fewer GAs, honestly, which is also ok since I already have so many great games to play) running each day. I do feel sad about some users that I liked and do not see anymore... but it is part of the "wonderful" (wonderful my ass) cycle of life, I guess.

You have been here for a long time too, what's your take?

What keeps me happy most is some user's sense of humor and creativity, and that's still here.

Like, me, I clearly make awesome jokes and I am very creative. Obviously. So, as long as I can come in and read my own messages, I am happy. Before SG, I used Notepad to post my jokes, it wasn't as satisfying. ;D

Cheers!

Edit: now that I think of it, from my POV, the shittiest SG-related thing that happened wasn't FROM SG -- it was Steam starting regional restrictions. I understand it, but what a pity.

I don't know. I'd say it's more or less the same. The changes are mostly seasonal, so it averages out in the big picture...

Which seasons are more on the active side?

ha ha it's not that accurate. I meant something more like I'd go through a period of chattines, plowing through the discussions, commenting and beeing generally "active" and suddenly one day I'll crawl back under my rock and keep silent for a few months. Similarly with giveaways I could be sifting through gibs, looking for particular games, checking the site many times looking for the right gibs to put my points in, wondering if I shall enter it, do I want it enough, so on and so forth and some months later I'd be just opening sg once a day or every other day, just dumping all the points into first GAs on the list. For gifting itself it mostly depends on my wallet and since it's usually pretty empty I just try to make do with what I can. And based on what those changes happen? I have no idea myself. I guess a lot of that comes down to combinations of many factors around my life and stuf...
I really only had two "major" breaks from sg - about 5 months in 2013 and like 9-10 months in 2018. I'm not a 100% sure on the causes of those, I have some suspicion, at least about one of those, nevertheless I'd rather not go into them...

I have been only 1 year in this site but haven't been as active in the past weeks because I have been really busy with real life... but hope to come back stronger than Ever when I have more free time!

Life has a really nasty habit of getting into the way of gaming. :p Come back stronger than ever and hopefully life has good things going for you!

Definitely less active but I'm still on the website daily. This year i've had more free time since i'm home more often than not. The website is more or less the same since i've joined, lots of new faces though.

Coming on my 4th cake day (in a few months) and even though my GA rate has gone down due to well, pandemic related joblessness, and also buying less bundles just because the size of my backlog, and computer issues won't really justify the cost. Still active in groups though because I like to give back when I do win.
I think the thing that changed the most since I joined is... me. I used to log in once a day to enter GAs. Now I am pretty much on whenever I'm home and I spend more time in the discussions section than in the giveaways really.

If the Space Cat was closing shop and heading for a retirement somewhere warm and sunny, with no more GAs, I feel like I'd still be here talking games and life with you lovely people.

How about you? You've been here almost since the beginning! I'm sure it's changed a lot.

I've got 6 years up my sleeve and have tended to fall into a lurking role as the years have passed. I still jump on almost every day and love perusing the forums and checking out the events but don't engage with the community as much as I probably should.
