And it's rubbish!

All options you get is an audio options. That's all. No video options (it runs in 1280x720) nor any other luxury you used to get in PC games. You cannot even map the keys on your keyboard / gamepad! And the control is not like in the THPS1 & THPS2 (that's how I like it), nor the THPS3 & THPS4, it's a completely different again. Have a peek.

I grew up with THPS games on PC so I thought this is going to be a comeback. What a shame...

And sorry for spamming with it here, have a candy.

Edit: You can set up the resolution, turn on vsync and remap keys by configuring ini files. Thank you Johnxfire and Marmots for the tip <3. Moar info here.

Sadly the reverts and various manual tricks don't work.

Bought it, it is different, but fun anyway to play the old levels again. It's not a bad game for that price. Skater physics are a bit bad though, especially if you fall into something and get catapultet in the air higher than the level. happens to me a lot. Or if you spawn in a rail and are doomed to fall and fall until the run is over....pretty buggy. i hope it will get patched soon. :/

I've configured the .ini files to set it at 1920x1080 with vsync on, and I've got my generic usb controller working with x360ce and I have to say, it's pretty good.

Granted, without a gamepad, it seems absolutely horrible. Its a terrible port, but it can be remedied.

Use to love THPS2, played the hell out of it on ps1. Made the jump to THPS underground 2 and my record was 13 mill no cheats (on nawlins lol). Might get this game, when i get myself a ps3 controller for my pc. Does THPSHD incorporate reverts/buttsllaps/stickyslaps?

no. you can do a revert, but not to continue your combo

Sadly true. The various manual tricks seem to not work either :(

So you are saying you cannot hit a halfpipe, revert to manual, switching up your manuals, then flip in to crazy grinds.

Are there even specials in the game

Nop, you cannot continue with the combo after hiting the halfpipe. Maybe it'll unlock later, but I don't think so :(

Specials - I guess so, there's the special bar.

According to games Steampage:
"Manuals and Reverts: You can do manuals as part of trick combos in THPS HD. Given the fact that this game combines the best gameplay from THPS1 and THPS2, Reverts will not work as part of trick combos in the initial launch of THPS HD as that mechanic was not introduced until THPS3. However, reverts will work in the post-release DLC for the THPS3 levels, as those levels were originally designed to accommodate this."

thats too bad, Probably wont pick it up then. i cant play THPS without going for big combos and without reverts that continue combos, itl take a HUGE hit to my potential score. I would have figured they would incorporate it in a non-old school mode or something but im surprised its otherwise. Considering Training, school, etc etc have all been remade multiple times don't see what it changes whether or not they were initially designed for the map. Oh well, Guess ill be waiting for that potential DLC that changes that fact (hopefully)

*edit
further more if anyone is curious, buttslaps were a common glitch in all THPSes for a long period of time where if you were to hit a ramp or jump. do a quick trick and SPAM the jump button, youd get launched super high. This lasted through most of the series including Thaw, thug1 and 2. It was used alot by improv players and high score-ers alike. I figured it was a bug they left in the game purposely as it was commonly used and im sure Neversoft was aware of it.

As far as I've played, no.

You don't need to get a branded controller by the way, just grab a generic usb controller and x360ce and you're set! If you want to, of course.

I use a generic USB PS styled controller, and the 360 button layout for the most part is the same anyway. Cheers man!

It's an awful attempt of remaking the original two classics. Poor controls, shocking game requirements for a HD update and next to no optimisation for PC's makes this a simple port of the XLBA game. Not only that but a very limited selection of music and levels from the two game's and a promise of paid for DLC containing level's from THPS3 (Which support Revert's containing combos, which won't be backwards compatible). Even the physics and skater movement's feel completely different to the originals.

Make's me wonder if they even played the classic THPS before rebuilding the game from the ground up. They can't say they din't have access to the original game file's since they was "using Neversoft’s original level models. - Taken from Steam Store page." Hell they work within Activision with the Neversoft team, surely they could of piped up and went, "You know what guy's, this doesnt feel right."

The game feel's nothing short of a cash in on the classic THPS brand now that the newer Hawk game's are failures.

Don't get me wrong, it's nice skating around the level's again but even the swanky HD graphics won't save the game for me with such a limited Roster of Skaters and awesome tunes. 5/10 for me and the worst game of the year I've bought so far.

What pisses me off is they claimed they used Neversoft's original code and the game is made in Unreal when the originals obviously weren't. Anyone that's developed anything in Unreal knows that's a bullshit claim. I'm a huge fan of the series, played it online on PS2 pretty much every day. It's easily my most played game series and this is a huge slap in the face. I have the PS3 version so my rage doesn't even include the bad PC port problems.

I'd love to know how they used that code in Unreal 3 ;) Especially since Unreal 1 had not long been shown off a year before the original THPS's release! Lovely backwards compatible code they must have from Unreal 1 to Unreal 3 lol! ;) Obviously never they never used Unreal, in fact I don't believe they used anything other than an in-house engine with no code name giving to it.

Lol exactly. They're just flat out lying to us.

THPS 1&2 were made using Neversoft's in house engine and from 3 onward they used Renderware. Neversoft are actually talented developers. I have nothing against Unreal, I've used it before and it's a great engine. However when I started up THPS HD and saw the Unreal logo, I cringed and knew straight away that it was the wrong engine for a THPS game. Most of the problems I thought it would have, it has. Robomodo have done nothing but rape the series. THPS HD doesn't have the soul of the earlier games at all, they did the bare minimum with this remake. Sorry for the rant but it's hard seeing one of your favorite series get killed like this.

Care to point out where they claimed to have used the original engine?

They have said they use the original LEVELS, but never the engine.
HD Upgrade: Game was rebuilt and polished by Robomodo using Neversoft’s original level models.
The levels are exactly the same specs as the originals - every gap, SKATE Letter, etc is exactly where you remember it but looks a hell of a lot better!

Right here and here in the 360 description of the game. It's also in the PS3 description of the game. I never claimed they used the original engine, that would have just been ridiculous. I said they claimed to use the original code, which is also ridiculous considering the game is built in Unreal.

"The game was rebuilt and polished by Robomodo using Neversoft’s original code and includes the best seven levels from THPS and THPS2 (Warehouse, School 2, Mall, Phoenix, Hangar, Marseilles and Venice). "

Looks like they changed the description for the Steam release which was definitely a smart move.

FYI, levels are code.

And you may not have said explicitly that they claimed to use the original engine, but you implied the fuck out of it by bringing up Unreal in your sentence.

FYI levels are basically models with collision set to them. Levels in Unreal are created with BSP brushes and the very little interaction in THPS HD would have been done in kismet. You can do anything you want with models, doesn't mean it will be anything like the original source. Saying "levels are code" is very vague.

I didn't imply anything, I said straight out that it was impossible for them to use the original code in Unreal. If you have used Unreal to develop anything you would know what I'm talking about. I think you might be a little bit confused.

A real dump of a port from what I can see. TH has been one of the most significant franchises in my life so this is a bummer. Oh well, I got like 4 TH games installed anyways, and there's another, far superior skating based game that's also hit steam as well today wink wink nudge nudge
