Hi everyone,

Last year we had a big raffle with collection coal and this year I have seen ( so far ) none. It disappoint me quite a lot to be honest. I was so looking forward to collect some coal again and have a chance of winning some games. Last year I won Half Life 2.
In general it was just fun completing the needed achievments to get some coal. What do you guys think about this? Do you miss it? Or if you were Valve how would you arrange something special for the steam users?

Oh yeah and a little extra for you guys.

Yes, it was fun. Steam doesn't give us even a Valve coupon now and so far the sales doesn't look better than of the previous ones of this year, but at least Steam Market is a nice addition if you play Team Fortress or Dota.

I don't need free games I just want a challenge with archievements. There's not really a event just a sale, which is quite boring.

This is 2012. That was 2011.

Sorry accidentally removed my comment while trying to reply :s

P.S: There was too much abusers during 2011 Sale so I don't blame them for not doing it again.

Yes there were exploited methods of having more coal.

Well I didn't know that. Well I did it for the fun of it. Not because of the free games.

Lack of decent discounts on publisher packs - fail :(

They should have had an achievement event, but ditched the coal inventory system. Way too many people abused the fuck out of that :S

The could have it different this year. The made a lot of money out of it too.

But I'm sure the reason they stopped was because so many people were creating fake accounts just for the coal. Now all these spammed accounts just sit there not doing anything and Steam can't get rid of them easily.

They actually can. Just write the fu*king script that deletes inactive accounts...

I'm not referring to the actual ability to delete the accounts. Who or what determines whether an account is inactive? If someone wants to only visit their account once a year, how can Steam justify deleting all their games? Inactive accounts (containing any amount of games) cannot be deleted because someone doesn't log in much.

and it was quite a clever marketing move last year, because people bought games just to complete the holiday achievements. I miss that competition fun.

Instead of some game gifts Valve gave us the ability to vote for an awesome game every few hours!

It was being abused, so I'd rather not see it again.

Or just a secure system that this won't be abused again.

The whole achievement thing was lots of fun. I think there should be a way to get some free games because it's Christmas. Maybe not with coal but with achievements - for example, you get 5 Christmas 2012 achievements and you get a chance to take game now or collect 5 more and get more expensive game. The whole sale thing is good but not everyone can buy games especially when there is Christmas and New Year coming (I can't buy them too) so I think next year they should think about this one more time. That whole badge thing is crap for me (because I can't get the badge anyway because I can't buy games at the moment).
