This makes your steam keys ""non-copy-able". The person when redeeming has to manually type in the keys. U can't copy-paste them! (anti-bot measure). Got this from reddit.com/u/saulios on reddit.com/r/FreeGameFindings.

Happy Holidays!!!

For example:

Agent Awesome - π–¬π–Έπ–«πŸ©π–-π–ΆπŸ’πŸ₯πŸͺ𝖹-πŸ€π– π–π–πŸ©

When using copy/paste and trying to redeem you'll get an error, but if you type the key manually it will work

Trivial to write a bot to fix that, if you want to.

But copy and paste is almost as useful as the invention of the wheel. Having to type everything in is so cumbersome when there are simple and effective anti-bot measures like:

MYL?N ?= 4+3
or
MY?7N ?= 4th letter in APPLE

Seven Mary Three - Cumbersome

I have a feeling that a bot who is already capable of recognizing the key string can easily be told to immediately type it out again, whereas this would just prevent all human users from using it properly.
If you really want to protect your keys, the best way is to create a giveaway for it, which will also make distribution fair instead of whoever randomly stumbles upon it within the first few seconds.

Edit: Happy Holidays and New Year, too!

it's pretty sad to see people repeating this nonstop. most if not all "bots" on threads are real people checking them.

bots might monitor giveaways and enter them (check main page every 1h), but they can't scan threads constantly for keys (check ALL threads and ALL replies every 5 seconds so we have a real advantage! = get your IP banned instantly).

You are right, but this technique may be useful to some level nevertheless. See, even though most keys are claiming by people, they may claim them in bulk and feed it to huge bot farms, and in such case keys that needs to be re-typed won't allow to redeem all keys by one person. BUT, there is two things that make even this benefit questionable:

  1. It's easily reversible. Since it's automatically converted from plain text to fancy characters, it can be automatically converted back to plain text. So, it's more like a protection so that only tech savy farm users can get the keys.
  2. It only makes sense for massive key drops, since for only one key user and bot will still have the same chances.

But there is more to it! Keys that can't be simply copy&pasted will annoy users, and this can be considered a payment for the game! Freebies lovers must suffer!!!
