Marvel. The question would be silly if it weren't for Batman, which is better than anything Marvel has - but only the best Batman stories, of course. DC doesn't have any other good standard heroes.

Yeah, that was a pretty fun one. Kind of silly, but good nonetheless. (It's less silly than Superman comics usually are.)

Not really. DC doesn't have much of anything worth reading, unless you leave their superhero stuff behind.

Batman and the villains he's fought are the only good part of mainstream DC comics. Some of the other books they publish like Gaiman's Sandman are far better than their main line

Marvel's characters and the stories about them are a lot more relevant, probably because they were created more recently and deal with issues we see in real life. Plus, Marvel's videogames were always pretty superior (see: all of the Raven-developed multiplayer RPGs and Ultimate Alliance, the Punisher, early Spiderman games)

You can trust the guy with the Doom avatar, he's totally not biased

Batman games beat any other super hero game.

Edit: Superman 64 gives marvel the win anyway.

I liked Arkham City (not Asylum because its ending and handling of the final fight was atrocious), but not as much as the combination of all of the Marvel ones I listed, in addition to all of the "Marvel vs. _____" fighting games

I am looking forward to Injustice, though, so I'll give D.C. that

I always find that kind of thinking really strange. "The game was brilliant, but the last few minutes sucked. Therefore the game sucked." A good game, is a good game. Even without the ending, the story and gameplay was great.

Warning- contains spoilers about Batman: Arkham Asylum and City

It's true- there are games that it's okay to end poorly. This isn't one of them, because it's a game about a very well-known and established IP that has a long and rich history. There's a ton of material developers can use to write a good story from beginning to end

In Arkham Asylum, you spend hours upon hours watching a narrative build up in between action sequences. When that narrative is all but thrown away due to a lazy/bad attempt to wrap up the plot, I feel like my time's been wasted. Why put all that effort into creating something wonderful, and not even have the decency to end it in a way that's remotely fulfilling-

Speaking of bad and lazy, the ending wasn't just awful in terms of story. The final fight was boring, uninspired, and generic. I spent however long following Batman through fun and inspired fights against classic villains like Scarecrow and Killer Croc, but when I get to the final Joker confrontation it's "beat up X generic thugs, use environment to damage steroid Joker, repeat last two steps until you cinematically uppercut steroid Joker with explosive fist". With the way they handled some of the other battles, I was extremely disappointed in how they handled the Joker fight.

Anyone possessing the slightest experience with either the Joker/Batman dynamic or "what makes boss fights fun" would see this as nothing short of bad, boring, and unfulfilling

I agree with everything you said. Your points are accurate.
However, it was a lot of fun to play, and i've gone back and played it a couple more times. The ending isn't good, but the rest was a lot of fun to play. I think the opening by itself with Joker, and with meeting Killer Croc etc, makes up for the bad ending. Its worth the price of admission. This was just my opinion. The individual moments, were spectacular.

I respect your assertion that the ending may have had an extreme affect for you. Story not paying off is a big deal. To see things degenerate into a cliche game ending, is disappointing. I guess i can accept that. We'll have to disagree to the overall rating/quality of the game though. Cheers.

Marvel... especially when you look at the garbage that is the New 52.
I love the Image stuff back in the day, but then Jim Lee left to make Wildstorm, which was then bought out by DC and went downhill.

I can't really say for the comics but it's my experience that cartoon series based off of DC are generally better than the ones based off of Marvel.

Then again, it's hard for anything to compete with BTAS.

^ The truth. Somehow, DC cartoons are quite often better in some way than the Marvel cartoons. Not that the Marvel cartoons are bad, but if you compare the current cartoons, Young Justice and the Avengers cartoon, YJ takes the cake all the way. More depth and better animation, even though the Avengers have a few really popular characters, unlike YJ.

All these people that only watch the movies and/or cartoons make me sad.

Anyone who isn't a complete idiot or a fanboy moron will tell you that both have some cool stuff and some absolutely lame shit. If I had to choose though, I'd got for DC. If for nothing else than their Vertigo imprint, which has produced some excellent material among which my favorite series of all time, Hellblazer.

I'm not happy about it being drawn into the New 52 though. On the other hand, most of the main Marvel titles have been complete shit, with Avengers vs. X-Men being the worst-written piece of garbage since... well, Marvel's last crossover event. Of course, crossover events tend to suck balls on both sides of the fence so whatever.

Right now, I would say neither. They're pretty even, for every great DC book like Swamp Thing, there's great Marvel book like Journey into Mystery, but on the other hand, for every shitty DC book like Teen Titans, there's shitty Marvel book like Deadpool. I'm curious about Marvel NOW! (hey, you can't go wrong with Hickman and Remender on Avengers, Bendis can go rape the X-Men for all I care), but right now, I don't prefer one or the other.

But normally, I prefer Marvel, though it's pretty close.

IMHO, Marvel is a little more adult oriented in general (the most important superhero of DC has his underwear on top of his pants), so I like Marvel a lot more than DC. I tried reading some DC stuff and... yeech. Batman is cool, though. Not the rest.

So far it's DCUO vs. Marvel Super Hero Squad, and the latter is a little kids game, so no real contest. But Marvel Heroes is around the corner, and then we'll see.

That's my gaming take on it.

Marvel's take is in my opinion superior. The heroes are underpowered and plots more connected. DC's world is too optimal, the heroes are just too strong.
