I'm heavily considering buying games from Humble Bundle and will give out most games (mostly games I simply don't want or games I don't think will run on my laptop) here on SteamGifts. But I want to know if going in for the monthly plan really worth it.

The included games are hardly ever on the bundled list so they give full CV. If you're looking to level up your account by giving the games away you don't want then yes it's definitely worth it.
Just don't hang on to the keys too long as they do tend to pop up in Humble's regular bundles after not too long.

There is no difference between giving away now or later. Sure you get many cv but you will lose it after it will be bundled.

It isn't. If you give away a game before it's in a regular bundle you retain the full value. The only time a non-bundled game loses value is if the price of the game drops as the site only tracks it's current price.

Then that explains how I lost CV out of the blue.
My mistake, thought the CV loss was due to a game getting bundled.

You can also lose CV because bundling is done retroactively back to the point when the game was first bundled, and it sometimes takes them a long time to update the database (since it has to be done manually.)

So if you give away a bunch of bundle games right after they get bundled for the first time, you'll get full CV at first, then will retroactively lose that CV once they get around to inputting the bundle start date. But if you'd given those away in giveaways that ended before the bundle started, you'd be fine and wouldn't lose anything.

Handy rule of thumb: If SG's most dedicated troll says it's true, you can be pretty certain it's entirely not such.
But, this is actually something you can check for yourself:
Just go to "Create New Giveaway", type in a letter, and then hover over the first asterixes you see and read what the pop-up says closely.

You can, of course, confirm the numbers by cross-referencing SGTools data for the profile of any user with sufficient unbundled giveaways made. As an excellent example, I'd recommend Ctrl+F'ing my own sent page for 12 is better than 6, and then attempting to type that into Create New Giveaway for comparison.

I'd argue that no troll ever will take the crown from konrads in the misinformation department.

Well, I was working off active users, so it'd be pretty awkward (and impressive) if konrads managed to make himself a contender in that. I feel our current king of trolls has an edge, regardless, given the amount of effort put into certain endeavors.
The lack of rampaging bigotry actually helps support the claim to the title as well- after all, bigotry doesn't enhance trolling, it merely highlights a failure in site management by site staff. Which, in a roundabout, twisted way, serves a constructive purpose, and thus is a negative for trolling- weird as that consideration may be.

That line of thinking looks more like a knot, but I do agree that your point is valid. I guess the cute marshmallow guy is now the king of trolls (that sound kinda weird, doesn't it).
Edit: don't pay attention to the knot part, since I wrote it before seeing your edit.

The bundled list is retroactive but only back to the point where the game was first more than 95% off.
I can make a full CV giveaway today for any one of the previous non-bundled Monthly games and I keep it, but if it gets put in a regular bundle tomorrow and I make a giveaway after that, then I only get my 15% CV

There's been several posts about it on the forums here. They don't specifically take away what you bought that's just poor wording but if they can link you to steamgifts/trades or other similar sites they will deny any support for that or future purchases. So if you get a bad key and contact them for a replacement you're shit out of luck.

Humble Bundle support said to some people here that they are traders and reseller so they won't give new keys. (when they asked for new keys because of dupe)

they claimed to never resell, but did either ever trade or gift HB keys prior?
did they promote thier steamtrades link on thier Steam Profile
what was told to HB and why withhold that info?

Yes, yes and they said it was for a giveaway here. And that's the problem for HB.
You said "problem arises from gibbing keys instead of giftlinks" but I wanted to say even if you're using the gift link it doesn't matter, it won't make it safer.

I'm not angry with you but the logic behind this (which is even against EU laws).
Imagine you buy a car and then the constructor don't want you to sell it or trade, nobody would agree with this, this is ridiculous.

Well I am done with HB after it happened last time for me (Sakura bundle or something like that). Bought bundle, generated gift-links (no keys, gift links!) and used them in giveaways here. First 2 winners got their game, others didn't as links said their were allready used (I bought new bundle and generated keys for other winners). Contacted HB support and they said me, I am on same road as traders, so no more support for me - I don't care anymore as they lost one customer. :) Month later they replaced full bundle without word, but I am not supporting them anymore.

BTW good luck with finding any trades from my side with keys.:) Most of my trades was for steam gifts/TF2 keys and I am not trader anymore (for 2-3 years I suppose).

Yeah, overall, sure. They'll be hit and miss most of the time, but they tend to hit more than miss. Plus, if you give stuff away, it's very likely they're full value. Meaning that you get to reap that sweet sweet CV.

It depends on how much you regularly spend on games anyway, how much you're willing to gamble and how picky you are. All those bundles have a very good value for the money you pay, but that does not necessarily mean you would like any of them. I am extremely picky, I only rarely subscribed for a month when the early unlock interested me, most of the bundles I didn't subscribe had no more than one game, that would have interested me to win. Sometimes I even won that game here on SG.

If you don't already own a million games or you don't buy anything until 6+ months after it's been released, then most definitely.
If you own a crap-load of games or you buy any game you like the day it comes out, then probably not.

From a $$ value perspective, however, it's always worth it. Even if you own a couple, you still come out way ahead and end up with some nice gifts for friends or SG.

I second this. I've been subscribed since last June and there was always at least one game I kept from the monthly (or gave right to my gf) and the rest I've given away to boost me up to level 7 in that time.

I also just like the thrill of the surprise, wondering what the first friday of every month will hold. It's exciting and special for me.

It depends on taste and what you want to do with it. CV-wise it's a huge win without contest, so if you're the guy that says "I'll be happy to get some CV out of those that I don't like" then you already have one huge reason to consider. Or if you're after trading, then every once in few months you will get some good stuff to trade away for something else you want.

Games-wise it's hard to tell because taste is subjective. I'd say that even with my picky taste, there is a good bundle once every 2 or 3, so it's worth it in long-run. Personally I'm not subscribed as I still don't find it good enough, as even if there is some game that gets my attention I can usually just get it at stock splitted price on group buys or from one of my 2hu friends.

Overall though, if you want to expand your library, find out some new gems, grab some nice CV or simply trade it for something else, then it's worth it. Price-wise at least, since content varies.

. For me it depends on the early unlock, if itยดs a game I want or something I can gift to my brothers , then I pay the 12 bucks, if not then I pause my subscription and wait for the next one.

I frequently praise Monthly and too often criticize the numerous messages that every monthly are bound to pop up calling some monthlies trash or similar (just because one doesn't like a genre it doesn't make a game trash- why people are so extreme?). Id even run the danger of being called a advocate for it (actually im afraid of its impacts, the whole devaluation of games quicker and quicker gets me worried of another bubble and videogame crash like the one in the 80's).

But i voted no.

Seeing how you already stated how little of then you may actually be able to run or want then its a sound no. Often heavier games are featured and mothlies really aren't that enticing for people with specific tastes. I like almost all genres, love indies and such- for me its a blast, because rarely any of the games are bad (taste is another matter- but im in most niches so i appreciate then).

But if you want it to giveaway then yes, surely. Without a doubt are the most appreciated GAs below never-bundled new releases and the cv is good.

Some months, there isn't a single game I wish to keep in the entire bundle. Other months, I want to keep all of the games. Most of the time, however, there are two to four games I'd like to keep, making it worth the price I paid. I've saved quite a lot using the HB monthly, and I've snagged many games that otherwise would have passed me by.

TL; DR: The bundle is worth more than twelve dollars a month.

Yeah I have been subscribed since the beginning and honestly in the 25 / 26 bundles I've got so far, just about every month there's a couple I've had wishlisted or been really interested to play. BUT I do also love a wide variety of genres, so if you're expecting big AAA games every month you will be disappointed, but if you have a taste for quality indie titles as well, there's always a couple of those every month.
There have still been one or two months where I've not really wanted anything. As others point out though, you do still get the value of those games either as a giveaway here, or a trade if you want. So even in those months I've been sad that I didn't get anything I wanted, but I still didn't feel ripped off. But honestly I was going through all the bundles the other day, and there was only 3 months so far where I was really let down, albeit the value for money was still good. With humble seemingly doing less of their regular game bundles, and indie gala and groupees mostly being crap, I find the humble monthly is still something to look forward to. (Along with the occasional surprise from fanatical)

I think it's worth it, especially when you're located in USA or Europe.
You got the games you want (if there's any) with a bargain price (assuming no sales is happening)
You helped people saves money (and they get to play the game)
You got cv (if you care about it)

It's interesting that a lot of people suggests it's good from a CV point of view when it's absolutely not. Usually Humble Monthlies give full CV, but only as long as you're in the ~90% region, which means you can't expect more than $10 real CV per real $ spent, and additionally only after subtracting occasional games that have been bundled in the past that also get included. Also, sometimes a very profitable bundle will cause most or all of the included games to become SG-bundled, which gives you a horrible CV return per real money spent. The current CV system is - sadly - best exploited with tons of varying, dirt cheap (usually low to horrid quality) bundle games with high store values.

So the real reason to suggest Humble Monthly is if you want high quality games at cheap prices, which is exactly what you get. In your case, you want to make quality giveaways where your main goal is not to get CV - which I applaud you for. Furthermore, because of the high quality of Humble Monthly games, you can usually trade away the games you're not interested in - often even at a profit, if you wait until a few weeks after the bundle has ended, because the included games often have stable demand. (Just don't wait TOO long or they might become bundled somewhere else, thus losing most of their value.) This means that even in a worst case scenario, you can still cash back most of your purchase if you end up regretting its original purpose.

So yes, I'd definitely say it's worth it - for any purpose other than CV.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

so before SG I would have said no but as you have a place to gift everything you don't want (and have the games you gift still be high quality) I end up feeling its worth it.
CV doesn't mean much but you do get nice cv for higher quality games so \o/

Look at it this way - you are giving some money to charity each month, and you get several games for a low, low price. How can that not be a win??

As far as CV goes, IMO its way over-rated. Sure you get better odds of winning the higher your Level is, but better odds at winning the same $1 games that nobody wants to start with...again thats just my opinion
