Not quite, but it means I'm getting kinda famous on SteamTrades, right? :P

I'm not a scammer but will sometimes offer to buy things other bought for a discount like 50$->12-15$ for a 25$ game since I missed the discount. I then ask the person to pick a game from 0-25$ he wants and then I trade it to him

I am aware of this, as I do it too when I trade. Luckily, I took a peek at his inventory right after I accepted his friend request and saw all he had was cards. He then switched it over to private later in the conversation, so I knew he was trying to scam me. I just love how every time you call the person a scammer they immediately call you an idiot then say bye xD I have seen it so much in other users "I found a scammer" threads.

I mainly followed the first rule "If it is to good to be true, it is." It was also fishy that he would turn his inventory to private mid conversation.

yeah, but if they want to trade it why are they hiding them. You can offer to trade for a gift, but that doesn't mean you'll do it. If I can't see it in your inventory, I just consider it a sign to move on to someone more trustworthy.

Congrats ^^
Well I quited use steamtrades after I was scammed(I was an idiot back then so it was my fault)
After I quited only one stranger added me on the steam. And I got a free key from him.I live happily ever after.
So no steamtrades = no scam :)
Thanks for the giveaway.

I couldn't see his gifts and also he turned his inventory to private mid conversation.

I'm no scam expert, but if you read the conversation, every part of it says "scammer!!" :)
Random person adds you, doesn't know where he found you, doesn't know what you are trading, offers a $30 DayZ for Terraria, has rep on steamtrades, oh nevermind it's on his steam profile, a total of four cards in his inventory, oh oops private inventory, plus whatever else I didn't notice. :)
If the scammer didn't realise he was wasting his time, presumably the next step is pretending the trade doesn't work, so you need to send the gift first and he will send his after. Or a trade offer, offering his nothing for your game, with a message like "STEAM NOTICE: u must gib gaem first pls automatic $$ wallet xfer after trade no rly!" Or maybe his friend has the game, but can't add you for some reason, and you need to login to his fake steam website first. :)

This is what I was asking for. Then if you never send a gift/something else to anyone without an account linked to Steamtrades our without rep you are safe. I thought that there was a strange/difficult to catch way like reclaiming gifts or something else.
Thank you :-)

I had a scammer last month who impersonated a big trader. Luckily I found his real account which was level 18 while the scammer was only level 1.

This guy was a level 2 but he wasn't trying to impersonate anyone.

Thank you for sharing this story with the rest of us!

Haha nice. One caveat though - you can keep your gift inventory private regardless of your inventory setting. This is something I do, so that I can buy gifts in advance without the recipient seeing it and spoiling the surprise. :P (I have five gift items currently, but they're visible only to me.)
This dude just smelled super fishy all over the place though, good catch.

Aw, I can't see your SteamTrades link to make useless offers. :P

I got my first scammer not long ago, wanted one of my gift games in return for a key of a game in my wishlist. I asked if he would go first, he said no so I asked if he had a steamtrades profile that I could check, he sent me a screenshot of it and refused to link it.
I just checked their inventory and it is exactly the same as the one in your screenshot. Same trading cards, same number of items in TF2, DOTA2 & CS:GO.
Green paint picture? I googled "'their name' steam" and first link shows somebody reporting they got scammed by him also.

Yeah, I edited the picture because I didn't know the criteria of uploading it to this site (didn't want to name and shame), but his picture was a silver ball in green paint.

You mean like this dude's?

That's the one. It's definitely the same guy. He starts off with "what games u trade" in my conversation with him, same as he did with you and the other guy I found through Google that he actually scammed. If you wanted to search as above you will find both our conversations in the same thread which confirms his name.
He sent me a screenshot of his Steamtrades profile '233+ | 0-' I thought maybe he is taking over someones identiy which is why he refused to link it, but the profile doesn't seem to exist, so I think it may be Photoshopped. The one I did find with his name, there is a completely different picture and Steam ID plus no rep at all.

Well, he is now blocked for me so :) no more trouble from him.

I was tempted to :P but I remembered "If it's to good to be true, it is."

I wouldn't call him that. He's just misguided in thinking he can get games by cheating other people.

I was minding my own business when suddenly a wild friend request pops up. I immediately looked through all my pending trade offers on SteamTrades to see if it was one of the people I sent an offer to. Turns out it wasn't and it was just a random person adding me to request a trade.
This is the conversation that followed.
This was his inventory before he set it to private.
I caught my first scammer thanks to all the help and advice I got from you guys, so I have to say.
Thank you SteamGifts!
