I'm debating with myself right now to get the above deal as I don't think it has ever been that cheap before, I don't think. But before I seal the deal, I just have a couple questions:

1) This is just the normal Civ 5, not the complete one with all the DLC. So I'm wondering if the DLC are worth it, or rather which ones are and aren't. I know some give access to different civilizations and other things, but should I really consider them, or can I enjoy the game just as much without?

2) I know a new expansion is suppose to come out soon, brave new world. As great as it is for the game to get new content, I'm reluctant to spend money now and have to buy it separately, the collector within me will have trouble accepting that (Thank God I don't have train simulator!). While I know I can play without it and wait, I'm thinking maybe I should wait until the gold/complete edition has it and then purchase it during a sale. I do have a backlog as well as previous entries to attend to.

3) Is the learning curve just right? Do you constantly need hints and guides all the time or can you read the manual once or twice and be good to go? If I need a lot of time to be acquainted with the game in order to play well, then I'll leave it for when I have enough time to fully understand the mechanics. Also, is this one of those games where you can just drop for a couple weeks, maybe months and still be somewhat ok to play?

Thanks a lot for reading, I appreciate all the advice!

1.Only DLC worth it is G & K

2. Don't get the new DLC

3. Learning curve is really good. It took me 5 minutes to grasp concept.

Can't comment on 2), as I haven't picked up the new DLC yet, but otherwise agree with all of this.

It's well worth it for $5.

oh, it sucks? I hadn't paid attention to it since some vagueness when it first came out, but I thought it was supposed to add a ton of stuff and make it more like 4.

disappointed, I guess.

Civ 5 Gold has gone on sale for 12.50, and likely will again during the summer sale. Do you want to wait for a sale? And do you want all the rest of the DLC for 2.50? There's also the gold edition upgrade which would be 5 bucks at 75 off, so if you don't mind paying 2.50 in exchange for getting it a month sooner than go for it.

I just played Civ V recently and this is my first game on Civ series. Turn-based Strategy is also new to me. But I can tell you even though I'm really new to this game, but it still can make me hooked in my chair for hours just like any strategy game.
This game is helping enough for newbie by providing comprehensive hints, guides and help section.

When the new expansion comes out there will be a Civ5 Platinum or something with all the DLC + G&K. I'd wait for that, or if you want it now, hunt for Civ5 Gold on trade sites.

Civilization V is the most newb friendly civilization and well worth playing if you like strategy. civilization V has a medium learning curve

It's a great game, but I think there are better deals for it (because you're looking for the DLC). On the learning curve, I can testify it's really well-designed, I played about 10 turns in and by then mostly gotten the hang of all basics. For more advanced stuff just play some more, or some civ-specific stuff you may need to play a few more games to know, but just a few turns with it will let you get the hang of it just fine :D
