So, I've installed Jade Empire to play it with my Xbox One controller. The game is rather old (and the port is rather terrible) but Steam says it has partial controller support (and who are we to question the word of Gaben?). The controls are actually okay-ish, except the little fact that JE apparently uses DirectInput and because of that it doesn't recognizes triggers as a separate buttons and instead they act like a single button. According to MSDN it's not a bug, it's a feature. Which is sad.

So, here comes the question: is there any way to emulate DirectInput for XBox One Controller? I couldn't find anything on the internetz, the closest thing I stumbled upon was XBCD driver for XBox360 controller, but it's pretty dated and I don't think the Xbox One support is coming any time soon. I would appreciate any help.

P.S. Oh, I almost forgot about penguin question! Are penguins able to stand up by themselves if they fall on their back? Or do they just flap their feet helplessly, like turtles?

P.P.S. Sorry, no hidden giveaway, at least yet.

I've played JE with a xbox360 controller without any problems, but I can't recall ever using the triggers. Are they supposed to swap the style sets on the directional buttons? In any case, XPadder is often an easy solution if a game doesn't recognize your controller inputs properly, you could try this if everything else won't work for you.

On the default layout they were used for camera movement, but I mapped the camera to the right stick and I wanted to map switching the targets (by some twisted logic it was mapped to "select" and "menu" buttons by default) to the triggers (which apparently can only be done via tampering with the .ini).

I assume in your case layout was different. Could you please collaborate on it?

That does sound strange, indeed. I haven't changed my mapping at all, but if I remember correctly, I did use the right stick for camera movement and the menu button was mapped as inventory. So the problem is probably the xbone controller, as the xbox360 can actually handle direct input very well (except for force feedback).
