Why is that? Your PSU is already overloaded or something?

Seriously, they keep trading back and forth for which brand has the best card. Give the fanboyism a rest. It's as bad as being a scene kid.

Nope, I use maybe 60% of my PSU @ full load and I'd rather pick an nVidia card rather than AMD, don't know why. Maybe because they're better @ games.

What's wrong with AMD? I have AMD graphics card and have no problems with it. Old times when they had problems with drivers are long gone. Now everything works perfectly.

"Now everything works perfectly" ahahaha, no. Computers are too complex with too many interchangeable parts and software designed on different tech and all of it coming together under one operating system that tries to do what it can to make it all play nicely together. Everything works remarkably well, but not perfectly.

Yay, Good for you, I recently got some new hardware, but am waiting till summer to get GPU as well, since I didn't make enough money for it during my winter part time job. Won't go higher than 660ti probably though, unless the price drops and I could get my hand on 670. 680 will definitely stay out of my reach. :X

Not really, a quality graphics card should cost you around 1/3 of your entire custom pc build. It's a great investment as that's where it all ends up! Of course, some places overcharge for the latest and greatest, so look around for a good deal (your'll find $100+ price differences and some really good specials on at times). Never go for the Nvidia X90 series, as they are well overpriced. The x50 and below are actually designed more for application/casual or non gamers. The x60 to x80 range is designed for average gamers up to hardcore/future proofing - I would say GTX 680 or GTX 580 is well worth it for hardcore gaming at high resolutions, possible multiple monitor or large screen. If sticking to 1920x1080 or below resolutions, then it might be overkill.

Are you saying a $500 GPU is better than 2-$200 GPUs?

Two 680GTX in SLI and custom fans would almost equal to a 690GTX, but cheaper as the 690GTX is well over priced. I would recommend the 680GTXs. Now if your talking about 2 GTX 560 TI vs a single gtx 680, then I would still say it's better to go with GTX 680, due to heat, stability, space, and future proofing.

A 690 GTX already is a dual GPU card, FYI to all readers. Can only Dual-SLI it, no higher than that.

GTX 670 would have been a better choice but since money is not a problem for your parents it's fine.

Why would it be better choice? GTX680 is powerful graphics card that will be able to run games for some while. It's better than GTX670.

Sure pay $100 to $150 for 5% more performance, seems the right thing to do. I like your logic.

If you want the most bang for your buck the GTX 670 is the best card for the GTX 6XX series. GTX 680 is not worth 180 USD more than the GTX 670

Not exactly the best bang for the buck per se, but since you didn't spend a buck, enjoy the bang of being able to shred thru games lol.

The 8800 series cards was the king! My MSI 560Ti's have been duds (waiting for my 3rd replacement card from MSI), so I've been using my faithful 8800GT from April 2008.

I got same one since end of September. It's good but real gamers get i5-3750k and overclock that!:P But you can play games smoothly with i3-3220 too.

I've watched benchmarks on youtube on the exact same PC with different CPU's and same games and settings and actually in more GPU demanding games the i3 3220 does exactly the same as an i7 3770k !But in more CPU demanding games(like PlanetSide 2) it falls behind a bit with around 4-5 fps but its not that big difference!and a gamer doesn't need a really POWERFUL CPU just a mid class CPU like an i5 3470 and notting more, because alot of games don't even use the 3rd and 4th core of the CPU while on the i3 3220 you have 2 cores but 4 threads and its like a 3 core CPU(if such existed lol :D ) so again it doesn't really make difference for gaming, but for programing...well yeah you WILL need an i5 or i7
