What are some games like Natural Selection 2?

I like the concept of Natural Selection 2 (One player as "commander" and others in the field), but I can't really get into NS2, something feels kind of clunky to me.

I tried Savage XR and I liked that one, but I think its kind of dead. :/ I only found 1 server with 6 players.

Does anyone know games that are RTS/FPS hybrids that aren't dead and that are fun to play? I'll keep trying natural selection, but I'd still like to know some others. :)

Battlefield 2. A good commander will carry his team. Haven't played Battlefield 4 other than beta yet, so can't say how important the commander part there is.

Not really the type of gameplay I'm referring to. I'm looking for something similar to like CoH type gameplay (someone building and upgrading) while it's also possible to have real players as my units. Battlefield 2 is a great game though.

Tremulous XD I played a long time to this game when I was running on linux. Good free to play were rare.

Definitely looks a lot like natural selection haha. After looking it up I think the alien controls feel weird in natural selection to me because my camera doesn't rotate. I was watching gameplay of Tremulous and the camera rotates as their running along walls and rooftops. Maybe that's why I wasn't feeling the alien gameplay in NS.
