I would buy Xiaomi instead. Their phones seem to be cheaper and better build with better specs. I have the Redmi as my backup phone, and it is every bit as smooth as my Xperia SP with much better specs.
Chinese phones are safe, I mean really safe. You would probably leak more data to Facebook and Google than to them.

Huawei is a big brand. It is one of the better Chinese ones for technology. I own one, they are very good and reliable. The Honor really impressed me with the specs for price, you are safe.

As said above, Huawei is a large, well known company.
They're not new to technologies, so I would supposed it's a safe bet :)

Huawei is getting to be a well known brand in Europe now. If it has an official distributor in your country I don't see any problem. If you're buying an unknown brand through gray market retailers you might get a phone with spyware etc. on it.

i am buying it off an ecomerce site but yeah its an unknown brand not that famous here

With "unknown" I meant no-name. Huawei is a good brand IMO. Maybe not as well known as LG, Samsung etc. But remember that's how LG and Samsung started in the phone business. Siemens, Nokia etc, the former big boys, are all gone now.

You should be worried about the software, not the phone as a hardware. He should use it safe. Tell your dad to do banking and mailing only on 3G or other cell phone network used for internet that is supported in your country (wap, gprs, etc.) do NOT do it over free public wifi hotspots and he should be fine.
