No wonder I've never heard of you. Is it really too much of a nuisance to say "thank you" more than 4% of the time? Seriously. 96% of giveaways you've entered, you've hit the [Enter Giveaway] button and then walked away without showing any sort of appreciation for the person who has spent real money on a game that they are now handing out for free.
Maybe I'm encouraging people to "spam" thank-yous on giveaways, but this limitation was explicitly designed to exclude people like you who can't even be bothered to say thanks more than once for every 25 entries you make. This is why I've been making almost exclusively Contributor giveaways since the feature appeared.

I thank people if I win games. Yes, you took time and money out to give everyone the chance to win. And that guy who wins will probably thank you because you did something nice for them. 2,000 other people don't need to. If you don't like it, then continue not letting me in your giveaways. I don't really care. Not every contributor is a huge self-important baby about things, they just want to unload a game or make a person happy, not have everybody bow down and worship them via ctrl+c ctrl+v thank yous for giving them the life-changing opportunity to win a $5 game the contributor picked up for 75% off. If somebody gives out a $50 game, or there's only like twenty entries? I might thank whether I win or not. But I'm not going to sit here and type "Thanks" on every single Saints Row 3 DLC that people snatched up for free so they could get into contributor giveaways.

Oh, talking about that, I started exclusively making contributor giveaways after winners didn't even thank me (roughly) 30% of the time. Seriously. Roughly one third of my public giveaways resulted in a gift going out by email into the void and the only feedback I got from the winner was "gift received" being marked and the game appearing in their Steam library.
Things change when you're a gift-giver. Why should I give away free money in the form of games to ungrateful fuckers who don't even have the minimum courtesy to thank me when they win? It's disheartening, and it makes me feel like I'm just here feeding games into an uncaring void of anonymous leechers.
Here is the problem. I don't think I'm asking for too much. I want people to be active in the community here on SG. If there was a way of counting forum comments and posts separate from giveaway comments, I would use that instead. If there was a way that I could count "thanks for x" posts separately from posts with more than those three words, I would use it. But I can't.
And if you think that all of this is about being a self-important baby, or being hungry for attention, I think you should try giving a few games away and see how it feels on the other side.

I agree with you completely. also spamming thanks to every giveaway prevents any productive discussion about the giveaway. So there should be Thanks button that I will use on those giveaways Im realy grateful for and leaving the comments section for actual comments

I don't think I've ever seen a comment on a giveaway with any actual purpose to it. Just saying "Thanks!" doesn't create any discussion or really even make the host of the giveaway feel loved, mainly because "Thanks!" is spam posted on every single giveaway.

I've seen a few comments with some personality in almost every single giveaway I've joined, so I believe that you haven't been reading the comments at all. [edit: Besides, what "actual purpose" other than gratitude are you expecting from a giveaway comment?]

Have to agree here...the "comment" requirement is stupid, IMO. Not only is spamming "Thanks" not being active in the community, if you're like me who also use the iPhone app, you are completely unable to post any comment.

I know I personally F5ed every few minutes to see if any new comments were added on the giveaways I made :P
And you don't have to just spam "thanks". You can be even nicer and say something additional, like explain why you wanna win that certain giveaway. Of course you don't have to, but from my experience it gives a good feeling to get such comments on your giveaway.
Also, it's better to get a giveaway full of comments saying only "thanks" than getting a giveaway with no comments at all :P

Agreed. I found most thanks to be lame and repetitious, too, until I did my own giveaways. Then I just wondered why people couldn't spare ten seconds to leave a simple thanks. I mean, really? I'm giving away this game I spent my money on and you can't even manage a simple "thank you"?
If you don't like "spamming thanks" then don't. Write a unique comment to express your gratitude. That'll mean even more to a gifter. If your solution to spamming is to not say thanks at all... well, that's a pretty weak solution that looks a lot like laziness to me.
Does leaving a thanks on a giveaway make you a more active member of the community? Meh. Not really. Does it make you less of an ungrateful shit? Yuuup.

I'm not faking my giveaway score with any bundles or free keys or 3rd party giveaways yet I don't qualify because I think that spamming "thank you' everywhere I enter is stupid, useless and gives fake feeling. Please change that, I feel misjudged at this point by not qualifying for such silly rule.

As I've mentioned elsewhere in this thread, my reasoning behind this requirement is to reward people who are active on the SG community. Unfortunately, because the site does not provide more details, I can't tell who's been just spamming "thanks for skyrim" and who's been active in the forums. If I could, I would make the details more focused on the behaviour I'm looking to encourage.
When you give away a dozen gifts and 90-95% of the people who enter your giveaway don't even take the ten seconds to say thank you, it really, really gets down on you. Unfortunately, this criteria excludes you. But thank you for contributing quality if not quantity. I'm not here to encourage spamming, I'm here to encourage involvement.

I'd rather people at least take five seconds out of their busy leeching lives to say "thanks" after they click a button to get the chance to take a free game that cost me real, tangible money.
If SG offered more information about comments (like, how many are on giveaways and how many are in the forum), I'd be more specific with the limitation. But, it doesn't, so I can't.

Like I said further up the thread, if the site gave me the ability to tell what comments someone's made, or be able to see how many were just "thanks for skyrim" on giveaways compared to how many were forum posts, I'd make the limitation more specific. But, I can't.

I only comment on the forums, does this make me a non-active person? Most of the games I enter are indie games I wouldn't normally buy and I am not much of a follower of the "thanks" type or short one word, one sentence replies. My posts tend to actually be of at least some input or contribution to where somebody could make a reply if they so choose to, you know what I mean?
I mean, I am forced to not enter because I make my posts subjectively and critique myself to the points of questioning my posts two or three times of "is it useful," as I am not much of a chatty person.

Unfortunately, the site doesn't expose finer details about someone's posting history. The requirement isn't perfect, but I wanted to make sure people were involved with the site and not just mashing the "enter giveaway" button like a faceless bot.
I won't be using this requirement every time, so I hope I'll have a giveaway you can qualify for soon. Thank you for participating in the community with quality if not quantity.

Unfortunately, that's not what the requirements are. I usually make contributor giveaways of $100 or more to exclude the leechers. I decided to take a different approach this time.
But thank you for being part of the community. I'll be making ordinary contributor giveaways as well!

TL;DR THIS GIVEAWAY HAS SPECIAL LIMITATIONS AND YOU WILL GET NOTHING IF YOU ENTER BUT DON'T QUALIFY
So, I decided to give away the Deus Ex collection. This is Deus Ex GOTY, Deus Ex Invisible War, and Deus Ex: HR everything. I have decided to make it a private giveaway, but publically share the giveaway on the forums, in order to enforce special limitations. These limitations have already been approved by support.
Limitation #1: You cannot have abused the Guns of Icarus Online beta keys from earlier this week. If you created giveaways to share online beta keys, don't enter, I'll reroll if you win. Note: I will not be searching the forums for beta key threads, and I will be checking if you made legit Icarus giveaways. If you made a legit Guns of Icarus (not online) giveaway and did it properly, you're fine.
Limitation #2: You cannot have abused indie bundle keys before the rule change. This will have a certain amount of wiggle room, since it's hard to define abuse, but if you have given away like 5 of the same set of games that all happen to be in the same indie bundle (who would actually buy 5 copies of Ironclads, Beat Hazard, Before the Storm, and Razor2 and decide to give them all away without getting an Indie Gala bundle?), yeah, you're out.
Limitation #3: I want to reward people who have been active in the community, and so I will be enforcing a requirement of one comment per two giveaways entered. If you entered, say, 100 giveaways, you'd better have at least 50 comments or else you're not going to be given the game if you win. Note that this will be measured after the giveaway ends, so be careful if you're close to the minimum when you enter. To test if you're reading, this is the giveaway code: 1LKUe. I'm not making a link for it. Do not help anyone who asks what the link is in the comments, it's their fault for not reading the limitations. I must stress that this is not an excuse to begin spamming the forums to build up your post count. You'll be liable to whatever punishment the mods decide, and if I catch you, I will force a reroll as well as ticket you if the mods haven't already been notified that you're crapflooding to build your post count.
It's important to know that none of these restrictions count number of wins, or age of account, or contributor value. This specifically does not have a minimum contributor requirement because the other limitations.

UPDATE (3:30pm PST GMT-0700 August 4): My computer vomited all over itself and decided it doesn't know how to boot anymore. I'm currently in the process of grabbing all of my files off of it in preparation for a nuke and pave clean install of Windows 7. As a result, I won't be as active as usual. However, this should be taken care of by tomorrow, and it will definitely be taken care of before the giveaway ends. None of the rules have changed, I'm just occupied with more important things.
