I cannot even trade on steam, I do not have a mobile phone and if I do the authentication it will take 7 days to take place? Kind of stupid of steam as I do not have a smart phone and i'm sure others don't either.

It works, yes. You can also use WinAuth. SDA has problems with trade confirmations sometimes but it is faster for logging in. WinAuth can confirm, but the login procedure needs more clicking around. In the end, it is a question of preference.

As safe as your wallet in your home.

Bad analogy, but well you get the picture.

You still need some way to receive the one SMS they send.

I'm not sure for his case but one of the obvious reasons would be money. The other, which has been my case, is that there's a point at which phones just become another hassle to deal with, especially if your boss is calling all of the god damn time. In other words, not having a phone can dramatically improve your quality of life.

you could just not tell your boss that you have a phone.

It's necessary for a few jobs positions. Although he wasn't the only one guilty... you know how mothers can be with their sons. :D

well, if it's necessary, then not having one is not really an option anyway, right?

and yeah, i know how mothers are. when mine messages me because of yet another computer problem and i am not in the mood, i just don't answer. that's the beauty of mobile phones. you can always be contactable, but you don't have to. ;)

There's an app for Windows too, albeit unofficial. It works perfectly, both for confirmations, codes and chat.

Well, so far the dev of the app hasn't done anything shady and considering it's been running for a while with an evergrowing userbase, I assumed it was safe. I'm crossing my fingers though, I'm prepared to do what's necessary to get back my account in case anything goes wrong. :D
Yet, I haven't had a single problem in six months of use.

So would there be anyway to get the SMS code of the authentication without the Phone? I really want to just get rid of these trading cards as I have no use for them. I was going to buy the Rainbowsix Siege Starter Edition :P

You don't need the phone for that. You still need to just receive one SMS. After that whatever authenticator you've chosen is set up and you do the confirming with it.

you'll need to save a security code in case the phone (your friend's phone get lost/stealed/reboot). In my case i have to use the phone after every sell/trade

but after I do the SMS code I could just set the codes to go to my email though correct? I Really don't know why they added this besides scammers. To be honest I've never been scammed. The only time I was when the Steam Servers were hacked and I lost my Bills Hat but this was years ago. I Did get it back though. But for some odd reason they blamed me for not having steam guard enabled even though I did. But I could've been an automated message too.

Valve doesn't care, they only care about money. The mobile authenticator means they have to deal with less accounts getting hacked, less money they have to pay on support. This is Valve:
