Hello Ladies and Gentlemen! Some days ago I got my first Android device and I'd like to play some good games on it. Sadly, I don't know many good games. I guess I can run pretty-much any Android game, because I have Nexus 5. I already have Don't touch the spikes, Asphalt 8, Doodle Jump, Plague Inc, Angry Birds Space, Terraria, The Walking Dead Season 1, Sonic Dash and Stick Hero. Please suggest me any games You want but they should be free. Merry Christmas :)

2 Cars is the one I have been playing lately, challenging.
"The impossible game" is still being my favourite android game so far, it is paid but well, you know...
(you can also buy it on Steam)

I just got my first smart device (Android phone), so I'll have to keep an eye on this thread. I already have a huge pile of apps and games from collecting the Free App of the Day for a while, plus things from bundles. Also, I snagged a bunch of Amazon Coins when they were doing that Sonic promotion, so I can buy some games while I'm at it. The only one I knew I wanted to purchase was GTA: Chinatown Wars. I've never had a DS and I loved the original GTA games.

A couple addictive free games you may have heard of but haven't been mentioned, most free apps are ads enabled but you can turn off your wifi/mobile data on most of them to avoid the ads in most games. In no particular order:

  • Fruit Ninja: Slice as many fruits as you can before they fall. Just a silly fun game with 3 different modes and unlockables like backgrounds and knives (fancy colours for your slashes across the screen)
  • Subway Surfers: Run through rail yards, dodging trains and barriers, sometimes running on top of them. There are a few games like this one (Temple Run, Minion Rush) but I like this one the best. Every month they change the theme to a different city, which is really unique.
  • Monster Zuma: A mobile variant of Popcap's Zuma's Revenge (I can't find it on the app store but look around and you may be able to find the .apk), alternatively Marble Mania is a very similar game which I enjoyed.
  • Ingress: Join one of 2 global teams, travel to real world places and capture energy portals. This game may not be for everybody as it requires you actually travel to places around your city, but it is a wonderful concept and I highly suggest trying it out (it's more fun with some friends).
  • Draw Something: Something like Pictionary, you're given a word and you need to draw a picture of it for someone else to guess what it is, and vice verse.
  • Icy Tower Classic: Mobile port of a game I used to play on PC in the early 2000s. Run and jump up slippery ice platforms, performing combos and trying to get to the highest level.
  • 1010!: A game which pulls some ideas from tetris, place given blocks in a 10x10 grid, filling lines across will remove those blocks. The only thing with this one is video ads, make sure to play with no internet connection.
  • 2048 There are many different versions of this game around, it's a sort of number game where you need to match 2 tiles of the same number to multiply them together and try to get the highest number. Have to try it to understand because I can't really explain this. Also, for Dota fans, not an app, but works wonderfully in a mobile browser: 2048: Invoker Edition (there are more, but this is my favourite).

If you're interested in playing games from older platforms, and don't mind hunting for ROMs, I'd recommend these two:

  • PPSSPP: This PSP emulator works amazingly well, it includes many settings for optimisation, graphics, etc, and the option to edit how the controls appear on-screen. I do own a PSP, but why not make PSP games even more portable?
  • Retroarch Maybe not the nicest looking emulator around, but what's special about this is that it contains many emulator cores, allowing you to play games from NES, SNES, GBA, NDS, PS1 and a couple other old consoles. This is great because you only need this one app rather than an array of apps for their respective consoles.

Paid apps:

  • Stealth Bastard Deluxe: (seems it's exclusive to the humble store, which comes with both the PC and Android versions) A fast-paced puzzle platformer, with lots of replayability through unlockable gadgets and such. I have played this both on PC and Android, and I have to say the port is really well done. The music is also really good.
  • ESJ: Groove City: This game is ridiculously fun. It's a kind of precision platformer with great music and humour, which will probably have you swearing at your phone before long. You have a PG option which you can turn on or off, to make it less... vulgar? You can also get a Steam key from within the app when you buy the game on Android.
  • Ravensword: Shadowlands: I like to call this Skyrim lite for Android :D It's a 3D RPG which has a lot of elements what greatly resemble an elder scrolls game, such as the skill trees and perks, as well as the inventory system.
  • Syder Arcade: An ode to old-school side-scrolling shoot-em-up games. Really just brilliant, and again, one of the nicest soundtracks I've heard in an indie game.
  • Vector: This is a running parkour type of game. The graphics and animations are very fluid and so are the controls. I feel it has a kind of matrix vibe from the intro video. There is a free version on the android app store, as well as a full version, but it seems they both have ads, so linked you to the amazon version.
  • AaaaaAAaaaAAAaaAAAAaAAAAA!!!: A crazy game where you fall through the air through glass platforms and get as close as you can to buildings to get points them before you open your parachute to land. You use the accelerometer to control your decent by steering, dipping and diving.

I hope you enjoy the games suggested!

Don't play 2048, the original version is called Threes.

+1

I find 2048 and its derivatives inferior to the original because, compared to Threes, they don't involve enough strategy.

Why hasn't anyone suggested Kairosoft?
I would suggest Kairsoft's paid apps WAY before any of the free ones, but the free ones are quite great too.
Dream House Days
Pocket League Story 2 - (Pocket League Story 1 pretty good, and I'm not a sports fan.)
Beastie Bay - Kind of like Pokemon? Sorta...

If you're willing to pay for games I would suggest their paid apps as I said earlier.

Ahh... yes... Kairosoft games are awesome! And they always suck my soul away... >_<
Gotta be careful with time while playing their games. I used to play a game for like 7 hour straight. (8pm - 5am)
I like Oh!Edo Town, Pocket League Story 2, and Ninja Village.

don't play anything that's not made for touch screens. Turn based games and adventure games are fine, but action games, FPS, platformers, etc., are complete crap. Stay away from them and only play proper games for the medium.

I suggest any turn based dungeon roguelikes, per example. Kairosoft games are amazing too.

Also recommend the award winner 80 Days.

They're not complete crap, they're just less convenient to play than with a controller. And many of them support add-on controllers.

They're just moneygrabs like Gameloft current games. All licenses with shitty controls. If they have gameplay support, fine, but for that, play on PC.

"Dragon Coins" is pretty addictive if you can outlast the annoying hand-holding tutorials. The first few zones are also so easy that it seems all you have to do is spam to win, but that changes shortly after.

Basically a monster collection/evolution game that works on a 'coin pusher' type game to work out combat. Coins that fall into certain slots eventually cause that specific monster of yours to attack, meanwhile the enemy attacks based on every so many coins you drop. Naturally has in-app purchases but you can get the majority of things (just not the crazy rare stuff) through just weekly challenges and events.

Doom & Destiny is a great CRPG and you can get it for free, due to a promotion of the developer:
