Hi guys,

Since I am bored and frustrated like hell I decided to share with you this experience.

Oh and to make this thing clear, since everybody keeps asking me: I prefer retail Ubisoft games over Steam since they are at least 50% cheaper here (ENG WW edition) and I don't have to go through Steam -> UPlay -> GAME crap.

A few days ago I stumbled upon Splinter Cell Conviction Complete Edition in a retail store at only E5. Since this was the last one available I grabbed it in an instant and headed home to activate it. Since it's not the first time I buy Ubisoft games in this format (Ubisoft Exclusive DVD Cover) and I never had problems so far I was preetty happy I had this chance.

After activating the game I noticed the DLC section is blank as if I don't have any bonus content or DLC.
Great :| Time to contact Ubifail support. And I did. What followed however is just...WOW...

Hi guys, I just my hands on Splinter Cell Conviction Complete Edition. As far as I could see on the game's cover, it says it contains: +DLC (Insurgency Pack) +SKINS +WEAPONS +MAPS I activated the game and when I checked the DLC section I only saw a link to Insurgency's store page (technically). So is there any way to check if I actually have this DLC or not? I got this edition especially for the fact it was COMPLETE. Thank you!

Could you please send in a digitall image of the code so that we can check to see which version of the game you have,

The key is linked to the following account. Email: [email] User Name: daydr3am3r1987 As far as we can see you have the normal version of the game.

So I bought the game in a box that says complete edition on it and I got the standard version? :| Is there any way I can get the rest? This giving the fact I actually paid for it BECAUSE it said Complete Edition on it. I attached a photo of the DVD cover again as a proof of what I bought...

You have the exclusive version of the game and the DLC will unlock automatically once you progress in the game.

Hi again, "As far as we can see you have the normal version of the game." "You have the exclusive version of the game and the DLC will unlock automatically..." So which one is it in the end? Just to make sure and to avoid starting a new ticket here... You said it's the standard edition according to the CD key and now you said it's the exclusive edition. Thank you!

Mandy

The Exclusive version is the re-release of the game, as it states on the game manual.

Sorry for being so insistent but this still doesn't answer my question. So here I go again. Do I have the normal edition or the complete edition (which includes the DLC (Insurgency Pack) + SKINS + additional WEAPONS + additional MAPS). Or to put this in a different perspective, will I find that additional content + DLC and have access to it when I'll install the game or not.

Mandy

We have done some research for this re-release and it does not have any DLC on the game, only the original game its self.

:| Thanks Mandy. Now I am really trying hard to keep calm since this is not your fault (or anyone from support department) BUT the thing is I payed for a game that says COMPLETE EDITION on it and it specifically says it has (and with the risk of repeating myself for the 4th time): +DLC (Insurgency Pack) + SKINS + WEAPONS + MAPS. This means I was intentionally mislead into buying this edition when in fact I received something else. :| From what I know, next time I could just buy an empty box thinking I am buying, dunno, Splinter Cell Blacklist? :| And again, as I said before, I bought the game (as in I PAYED for it) BECAUSE it said COMPLETE EDITION on the cover. ( http://i.imgur.com/K2MY3ue.jpg?1 ) (that's what it says on the DVD cover, right?) Now, I'll ask you straight - is there any way I can get that bonus content I PAYED FOR or I'll be treated like 3rd rate customer? x( I had similar issues with other games published by other companies but so far this is the first time I've gotten so far with a support ticket without getting what I actually PAYED for, making me look like a beggar for some bonus content when in fact I PAYED for it already:|

Now I am waiting for a response :| Did this happen to any of you guys? Is there any chance to get that bonus content? :|

II had problems with Ubisoft games and I know their support sux but this...:|

LE:

Mandy just confirmed that Ubisoft did release that edition that says complete edition on it but keeps insisting that I only payed for the standard edition and to get the bonus I have to pay for it.
And no refund for me from Ubisoft or the store.

It's like I'm talking to a #$%^& wall :| She sees the cover, acknowledges the Complete Edition on it yet keeps insisting I payed for the Standard Edition only :|

How about no. You don't realize how stupid and immature that makes you look and you lose all credibility the moment it comes out of your email/mouth.

support is always the same mate... stop buying physical game copies, lol.
Anyways, just keep pressuring on Mandy, and it would be fine. Or confront with the shop you bought the game at.

@yuvy15 - I buy physical games since here retail Steam games are cheaper that buying from Steam store and Ubisoft UPlay games are way waay cheaper than getting the game on Steam or even UPlay. 90% of Ubisoft games are 25 euro at day 1, compared to Steam...
Confronting the shop won't help since they only cover those kind of issues if there is no CD Key inside or the disk is broken.

@indio68 - Yeah, that's what I was thinking..

um, what store was that at and do all game cases look like that there?

It's one of the biggest (if not the biggest) retailer in the country. ALTEX.ro and no, not all the games look like that.
Those Exclusive cases are specific to certain Ubisoft games (and not only Ubi) (older games that is - that why I was surprised to see Conviction like that) that are sold in Romania as part of a partnership between Ubisoft Romania and local resellers. (and all editions are in English - WW edition, without region restriction).

Well, you should contact the shop. You tell them you bought a complete edition, but after contacting Ubisoft, you realize it was a normal edition. They should contact the one who supplies the games(Ubisoft i guess..), and figure out this problem, cause there has to be a mistake somewhere.
It's either Mandy who is lying to you, the shop, or just an honest mistake with the CD keys.

Why is 'Blacklist' in your title anyway?
And lol at that sticker.. "+DLC +Skins +Weapons +Maps" It's either all DLC or none of it is
And yeah Ubisoft support is pretty unhelpful last time I dealt with them. Each time they tell you to update drivers, I mean no shit.. and when you don't reply in 2 days your ticket gets marked as handled.

I removed blacklist from title, dunno how that slipped in :D
And that is not a sticker, it's part of the cover, it's full print, nothing is added over.
And yeah, it's always something, not them, not their games. Update drivers, reinstall drivers, reinstall Windows, buy a new PC (they told me this when I start complaining HoMM VI was not working - 2 years later it turned out it was some stupid setting that along with mouse driver & certain refresh rate, would cause severe low FPS in game - like 5-10 FPS :|).

That packaging resembles those "semi-legit" copies (more expensive than "totally not legit" copies o.o) of bootlegged video games sold in one of my hometowns in China.

I feel the same. It is possible that the packaging is fake and the key inside was in fact the standard edition?

I had the same feeling when I first saw those cases and I start digging a little and I ended up asking a Ubisoft dude the day AC1 was launched in that store (in standard packing of course and multiple editions). That's the answer I got from him. Otherwise, I wouldn't be buying them at all.

The thing is, some of their games cannot be found in different covers, like POP games, AC1/2, FC1/2 and older games like XIII.
I also start seeing other games in this kind of packaging like this: Fallout Collection

Mmh only problem is Fallout never had anything to do with Ubisoft -.-

Reminds me of a Half-Life 2 packaging with EA's logo on it. Fake..

As I said, it's not Ubi exclusive but that I mostly see Ubisoft games in this format.
The HL2 is a different story. EA is Valve's publisher when it comes to retail packages and they also port Valve games to consoles hence the EA Classic DVD cover for Valve games.

Personally, I don't think there exist "semi-legit" thing. Legit is legit, illegitimate is illegitimate. That is a type of "totally not legit" copies but with camouflage making buyers thinking that they are legit. The funny things is that even many years after "pc disk era", sellers in China still are still doing the same thing. 因为仙剑5前传定价79元, then many people think that they can buy battlefield 4 or call of duty: ghosts for 79 as well. I am not kidding. There are tons of people buying this cracked games with disk and box thinking they get the legit copy. So many sellers sell this illegitimate copies. A funnier thing is that, once I saw a seller on 淘宝, selling boxed cracked Metro Last Light. They give you a CD key, but you cannot activate it on steam, or other platforms. You need to activate the cracked version in order to play. Basically, they even programmed like this. Piracy in China is a miracle.

I've only dealt with ubi support once. They basically said "yes this product should be available with your purchase. No your key won't activate it, and no, we won't help you activate it."

Other than that, i've had no problems with Steam or Origin support.

With Steam support I never had any issues, except the fact they are incredibly slow and their answers are always generically scripted.
EA support is the best. Gives free games if you say you;re disappointed with their services and always get the job done. Not to mention they have live chat and you actually feel you talk to a real person not a robot.

i activated a physical key of crysis maximum edition the other day which was painful via origin but i cant say it was supports faults, its ea's chopping and changing drm and online platforms, the orgiin support guy was as helpful as he could be i found. never had reason to use steam support which means more to me than having to use origins and it being good tbh

Mew2 has a good point above and I am trying my best to help you. So I search "splinter cell conviction edition" on google. According to wikipedia, the legit editions are: standard version, a Special Edition called Shadow Edition, a Collector's Edition, and a Limited Collector's Edition were also released. see here Also, there are other editions distributed by large retail companies like Amazon, Gamestop, BestBuy. But if you bought that kind of game, you should see Amazon, Gamestop, or BestBuy licence or logo on it. Therefor, I don't think there exist official release of Complete Edition. It could possibly just standard edition but reboxed and resealed by some unauthorized stores to trick the buyers. I don't think you need to ask "Will I get all DLC and extra bonus?", instead, at this point, you should ask ubi did they ever release this complete edition. And if possible, go to the store where you bought it to ask them.

Thanks for the heads up. As I mentioned above, I did ask this when I first noticed those covers around and they said it's cool, it's authorized stuff.
Since then, I bought older games I didn't have the chance to get at the time, like FC1/2, AC1/2, POP games, the full Myst collection and never experienced something like this.
I did however updated the question after reading your thoughts, see what answer I get.

Ubi supports are crap at all. Saying "We have done some research for this re-release" for me sounds really stupid because you are the guy working for ubi, if you are in a department of ubi, all you need to check is contact other publishing department, not do some research. So, I just hope they can reply you with more constructive advice and more official words instead of we've done some research this shit. Just good luck to you dude. I did contact ubi support for help before, then I realized they didn't help at all. All they said were sorry and no. Also, normally, after I submitted a ticket, I could get replied after 4-7 days.If I have trouble with uplay or ubi games, I ask google for help. If google can't help me out. Then I give the fuck up... Just because ubi support does nothing at all.

I'm gonna join those who say that you should take the game to the store and tell them that "there ain't no shit like a DLC up in this bitch, yo". To me it sounds like a marketing trick to get some good grandmas and grandpas to buy "the better edition" for their grandchildren.

Ubi programming is poor and glitchy (as you have already discovered), and their support is crap. If you are persistent, your case may get elevated, and there is a decent chance you will get the content. DLC not unlocking is not a new issue with them. I have avoided Ubi for a long time now, for other, similar reasons.

Going digital will NOT help you with Ubi, either. For one of their most notorious releases with this issue on a digital edition, see here: http://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php/768322-Content-does-not-read-as-unlocked-with-the-Complete-Edition-Forumsr
