Lets get straight to it..... one my relatives asked me for help choosing between a laptop or a tablet..........

she is a college student as far as i think a tablet would really comes in handy for her use ..But a notebook also has some great features ..(for example can run fully functional microsoft office)......

+

tablets these days have great features too.. like USB OTG ..HDMI video out ...mouse&keyboard compatibility and a lot more...

ok..... i said what i had in my mind so tell me what do you have in your mind??? tablet or notebook....

something else....for tablet i have Samsung galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition 3G in my mind...>>>With this you also have internet on the go

For Note book ...Hmmm....... something in that price range....maybe cheaper...

+
No IOS..... No Windows RT..(tablet).....

+
Sorry if there is anything wrong with phrases etc.....(my english is not that good...)

Tablet is useless for everything. You should only get tablet if you're rich and you don't know what to spend your money on. Get her a notebook.

i agree with this. tablet has nothing on a laptop. Smaller screen, harder input (is there anyone who likes to work with touch?) and slower. For me laptop is the way to go. with a laptop i can study, work on my projects and play games or see movies to relax.

just to make things clear a little bit.....

she has a PC in her home......

and one of my biggest points in choosing a tablet is that it can be used almost everywhere + battery lasts alot longer on The go....and maybe a little bit more user friendly than a win based notebook..(maybe...)

In that case, if she doesn't need to do any more demanding work on go(coding, cad etc.), good big tablet is not bad option. Also allows to read some material on it if needed.

Tablet has to be an IPad or Windows-Tab for Office.

I would recommand a Dell Venue Pro or an old ThinkPad convertible speeded up with more RAM and SSD. Both provide a pen that can be used for drawing graphics

I´m using an Netbook but after a short time you realize: the screen-size, the missing brightness of the screen and slow atom-processors are not useble. So if you want a Notebook go for a used Dell or ThinkPad Laptop, tune it (could be in all <500€)

I hope I could help you^^

IMHO for student the best decision is tablet like asus transformet t100. You have normal os with nice cpu and 2gb of ram, and normal win8.1 so you can run anything you want. Also you can plug into it dock with keyboard and have small netbook. Acer w510 is better because it have aditiona battery in dock, and this tablet with keybord can run almost one day long. Other plus on this devices is dimensions and weight. It is smaller and lighter than normal laptop, and much faster and comfortable than android or ios tablet.

Depends on what needs to be done. If it's mainly for Office and research I'd recommend getting a Surface. It's a tablet with an additional keyboard which makes typing a lot easier. It combines the advantages of both laptop and tablet.

Whats your price range? I have a Samsung ativ pro which is essentially a tablet, computer hybrid. I just finished playing KOTOR 1 and 2 and the original cave story on it, so its not too bad. But can be quite expensive. Running full win 8 though, so no problems with office or any of that stuff.

The Surface Pro (1st) has a great stylus.
We considered that Asus, but here in Canada, it came with only the 32 GB version, so the Surface Pro was the better choice.
We picked up the Surface Pro (128 GB) + Type Cover 2 for it was around $650 I think.

Well, I already had a 17" notebook and my desktop PC. I wanted to use my 17" for editing videos and gaming when I am not at home.
The 17" NB is just too heavy and energy consuming to be used for studying reasons, so I decided to get either another notebook or a tablet, around 10"-13" in display size.
I ended up buying a Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 10", which is a really great device. Haven't bought a keyboard dock yet, but others already told me that doing office stuff with their tablets is working flawlessly with an external keyboard.
Even an 8" tablet would be enough for making notes and stuff and every tablet has cloud software installed so you can easily upload your files to your dropbox or direcly to your PC. The Samsung S Pen feature looks really nice, dunno how good it works though.
One battery charge lasts for much longer than a note/netbook of course, which is another advantage.

Of course you can't fully replace a PC, but a tablet is really worth the consideration.
